High chance they will be moved online. The Kings Inn exams have been moved online and they are also in August; https://www.kingsinns.ie/cmsfiles/entrance-examination/Entrance-Exam-2020-Notice-for-Applicants-MH-23-June-2020.pdf

It’s a bit late to be moving them online when they are in less than 3 weeks time. Kings were put online from the outset.

Hey guys, does anyone have past Tort exam papers + examiner reports that they would be willing to swap for past Company/Criminal papers and reports?

"This year, due to COVID-19 public health guidelines, the Entrance Exam is an online,
computer-based exam that is closed book and remotely invigilated. A candidate sits the
exam on their own in a suitable location chosen by the candidate and permitted under public
health guidelines. The exam will be conducted through advanced online assessment software
from TestReach, an Irish company based at UCD campus."

If it's a case of either cancelling or putting it online, it'll go online to accommodate the cursed intake of 2020. Hard to see the October sitting also not being online. This is good news, both sitting will be on :)

Can people stop speculating on things they know nothing about. That'd be great thanks. This is a stressful enough time of year as it is, nevermind with the ****e 2020 has going on top of it all.

Surely the exam will be marked much harder if its online - faster to type so more content and analysis and depth and case law expected.

Not trying to scare people or anything.

Closed book , that's not possible for EU. The entire structure of the exam would have to be changed. 5 questions (typed) is a very different prospect for candidates with such short notice. Let's hope we receive some confirmation this week. It's a constant nagging at the back of everyones mind 🙈

Not necessarily, not everyone can be expected to have the same typing speed.

Not everyone has the same writing speed either.

A typed exam can't be marked to the same standard as a written exam - the pass rate would be disproportionately high, and would be unfair for the candidates that didn't sit the typed exam. The only way to resolve this issue is to mark the typed exam harder - so a greater depth of knowledge and analysis would be required to pass the exam. Sorry to break it to people.

Fair, I suppose we will just have to wait and see what comes of it rather than speculating at this stage.

With respect that is just "your" opinion. I have been out of the office since March, my typing speed would be well bellow par. I would much rather a written exam.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 162 ✭✭dobby896

I've typed exams my whole life due to a disability with my fine motor skills and I've never been held to a different standard than those who have written the exam.

At the end of the day, it is about answering the question asked and getting in as much relevant information as possible in the time allotted, typing under pressure in an exam is very different to typing freely.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 134 ✭✭Coulter97

It's a simple fact that the average typing speed is faster than the average writing speed. So therefore the exams can't be marked according to the quality expected in a written exam - it would skew the pass rate far higher and would make it unfair for the candidates that did not sit a typed exam. I think its clear that as a result the exams will be marked to a higher standard, at least insofar as the length of the answer expected. I don't want this either but it seems like the only fair solution.

Forget all your talk of typing speeds. A friend of mine got this email off the law society on Wednesday.

According to my sources, there will be more clarity about the August and Autumn sittings before the end of July.

I will just point out that if you think the number of words you write has any impact on your exam score, then you need to reevaluate your strategy for both these exams and a career as a lawyer.

Hiya, does anyone have sample answers for Tort from recent years? I've only got up to 2015.

Law Society confirmed this morning that letters will be posted at the end of this week. For anyone who has changed address since COVID/last sitting, you can still amend on your profile.

I don’t really do it by hours I just do it by topics. I’m covering 20 topics so I’m doing 2 a day this week and 2 a day next week. One big one in the mornings a short one in the afternoon. Papers and chilling at the weekends because we need downtime too!

Everyone studies differently so I wouldn't be putting too much into how long others study, or how much someone else writes.

Hello! I have just received my EU and Company law legislation books and I am wondering how people went about tabbing and highlighting it to make as efficient as possible for the exam? Thanks! :D

I have my tabs colour coded by topic or group of topics that are likely to be mixed. For example EVerything institutions related it pink, Direct Effect and MS liability are yellow and Goods is green.
I did the same with company when I did it and it worked grand.
