Germany has announced mandatory testing for those arriving from countries not on their green list

Ah that's probably what I heard then. Was that on news on RTE a short while ago?

The data says its not very harmful for people under 65.

Yes, an understatement perhaps at that age group. But considering the median age of those infected is 48 I think it is a general enough statement to cover the case data for Ireland.

My issue is that those of the working age are being unnecessarily held back from keeping the economy going . And I don't like that we have one of the worst health services in Europe overseen by the same people distributing advice to those making decisions for the whole country.

Not much point in spending €375million controlling it in the schools and having a completely lax approach at the airports. €2 million worth of body temperature scanners should be put in for a start at the airports, won't catch everyone but will put a dent in figures coming here due to travel.

They aren't saying it's 0.2, they're saying it's likely to become 0.2. It's believed the current IFR is between 0.6 and 1. Big difference. I'm not going to discredit scientists just because I've never heard of them, I like to take all sides into account rather than say "I'm not taking their word".

How does it become 0.2%? Treatment or what?

I don't know why airlines don't have an interest in doing these checks themselves to protect their staff and customers tbh. Far from a perfect system but better than nothing

You've gone silent since I gave you all the data, I've noticed. Anti-relaxers, flat curvers types thrive on hysteria and don't engage with the data in my experience. They live on their keyboards and are disproportionately represented online compared to the numbers you see out and about on a daily basis, IMHO.

What you've just described there is the exact opposite of reality.

Germany has announced mandatory testing for those arriving from countries not on their green list

"According to Berlin’s Health Minister, Dilek Kalayci, the tests would initially be non-mandatory, and the state would cover the costs in all cases, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

“Those returning from risk countries should be tested, and those returning from non-risk countries will also have the option,” Kalayci pointed out.

She stressed that persons returning from non-risk countries would not be tested at the airport, but could receive a free test from their local health authority.

Test facilities will be installed at all airports to help persons returning from high-risk countries to be tested immediately on arrival.

Persons who do not want to get tested or those who test positive will be obliged to go through two weeks of mandatory quarantine."

Micheal and Norma are like the priest and the gospel reader at mass. I'm just waiting for them to start handing out communion

Norma looks like that that one primary school teacher we all had back in the day.

Not released until the press conference ends.

I didn't say our cases are low, I'm saying that, based on the stats we have, the virus is not very harmful. You have absolutely no basis for saying that the virus would have a worse hospitalisation and death rate if more people got infected.

EDIT: I found the official table with the actual hospitalisation and death rate split between the age groups - see p9 https://www.hpsc.ie/a-z/respiratory/coronavirus/novelcoronavirus/casesinireland/epidemiologyofcovid-19inireland/COVID-19_Daily_epidemiology_report_v0.1_website.pdf

    Case fatality rate in Ireland based on number of notified cases (i.e. actual positive tests) as a % of the total cases;

    0-14 years 0%
    15-24 years 0.05%
    25-34 years 0.11%
    35-44 years 0.26%
    45-54 years 0.52%
    55-64 years 2.04%
    65-74 years 12.3%
    75-84 years 22.31%
    85+ years 27.69%

All the while noting that the median age of those infected was 48 so it wasn't just older people that got infected.

There average Irish person is 37 years old so for whatever reason infections are quite skewed toward the older demographic.
An obvious reason one might suggest for this disparitywould be that young people are generally asymptomatic and would not present for testing but this does not appear to be true.
    https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.03.05.20031773v2.full.pdf+html
Data from the Diamond Princess showed that the rate of asymptomatic infection was considerably higher in older age groups.
Among the infected patients under 50 on the ship
    23% were asymptomatic.
Among the 60-80 range- 58% were asymptomatic.

How exactly do you know that? With what's happening inside the body. People can have very dangerous levels of low oxygen without even knowing and feeling absolutely fine.

It's been reported even mild cases can have lasting effects as well. So it's not harmless for the majority of people.

You will notice a low spo2 level. I know this from experience.

Why are they doing this? Who isn’t reporting them? The hospitals to the HSE or the HSE to the public?
