Any idea how the Galway races will fare? Large amounts of people drinking, moving from pub to pub to watch the races.

Pubs opening in Galway for the races ?? No one told me.

So there's just 10 people in hospital now with it out of a population of 5 million people. An incredibly low number and great to see

    Couple of questions:

At it's April peak, how many in hospital with Covid were we averaging compared to the 10 now?
    • And are we seeing lower numbers because the treatments got better?
    • Or because the people getting it are younger?
    • Or because people are now more aware of socially distancing etc/the practices we now have in place?
Or is it a combination of all of these?

    One key point on the above is that it really isn't that harmful to those under the age of 60*°;

Ireland; 25881 total number of cases. Median age of infected 48 but median age of the approx. 1800 deaths 82-84 years of age and counted includes deaths "with" covid. Currently infected around 800 of the 25881 total cases. Of those, 15 in total are in hospital.

    Sources;

    https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/ireland/
    https://covid19ireland-geohive.hub.arcgis.com/

*exceptions to this are anecdotal accounts of still feeling symptoms despite recovering.
°60 was a low age I think to put in here, in reality I think under 75.

    Yes an offensive post.
But it's offensive that people can give the two fingers to everyone else trying to keep this thing contained.
It's very ignorant to think that its ok to gather a couple of hundred people from all around the country to one area. All it would take is one infected person to pass it on to all those climbers.
    But shur tissnt my problem

Well we're told daily there is virtually zero community transmission, that the chances of picking it up are like 1 in 2 million, according to expert on radio

My house mate who's a chef at the Clayton in Galway was saying a lot of the hotels in the city are booked out and its quite messy about, I suspect a small surge of cases coming from this as well as Air B&B's being booked out for house parties.

People with little to no symptoms are not going to bother getting tested in order to avoid being told they've contracted covid. I think this will lead to a lack of clusters and spikes. Not saying this is acceptable behaviour BTW, just supposing.

You are talking nonsense here I'm afraid. have you ever been to the area. do you know how spaced out a few hundred people are on this mountain? it's not a night club and you are not close to strangers for any more than passing on the street.

I don't agree with them doing it today at all but let's have some perspective at the same time. A few hundred people spread out on the entire mountain compared to the two hundred at the local club GAA match in the parish today. I know which I consider the greater risk.

Point is, if everyone had the same selfish attitude then there would be 10,000 on the mountain today. Its those same ones who will have an excuse for everything

I must have climbed a different mountain,no more than 4 to 5 hundred pilgrims last year almost 10000.All well spaced out breathing in the virus free fresh air.

Can social distancing be achieved, with that many people ?

The air is indeed fresh, virus free. Is there any way of ensuring that each participant is virus free ? Are the organizers implementing temperature checks ? Distancing marshals along the mountain ?

Over the last few years 23, 21 & 30 people sustained injuries per year climbing the mountain... all of whom needed medical intervention and assistance. This information is in the public domain..

Hospitals, emergency services, mountain rescue really need this kind of fûcking headache with covid, like a hole in the head they do.

Again the billy big bollôcks religious nut jobs out for themselves and to hell with the trouble they’ll potentially cause.

Not exact peak but this is the earliest operations report from hse on April 13th

    https://www.hse.ie/eng/services/news/newsfeatures/covid19-updates/covid-19-daily-operations-update-20-00-13-april-2020.pdf

992 cases announced that day (12 today)
    879 in hospital (11 today)
    144 in ICU (5 today)
3 deaths in ICU (0 today)
    105 on ventilators (3 today)
Every hospital in the country has covid patients (7 hospitals today, 22 without)

    Er, who said that?

Are you referring to the virologist who said this on radio and TV interviews a month ago?

This thing is very dynamic and it changes weekly. There's no point in thinking what was a statistic a month ago will be the same today

More chance of getting chlamydia in Galway than Covid 19 during race week.

I’ve just read this from the Examiner. There’s a sentence about pubs in England and then gives no context. The media will not let up. Interesting to see that people are starting to resent their governmentS now for imposing new curfews/lockdowns. Personally I think Croatia need to come out of the fog. I don’t think they’ll achieve heard immunity, Sweden haven’t.

Bump in response to the keyboard warrior above.
You never stop with your pointless statistics do you?

The only reason we had so few cases was because of the actions we took, something you didn't support.

And, once again, this is dangerous to people under the age of 75.

Pointless statistics? I never said anything about "few cases" I posted stats about how bad (or not bad) the reported cases actually were. Just stop fighting data and admit you're ignorant and masochistic because it's tiring to keep repeating ourselves. You're directly disagreeing with official data. Just stop.

Show me data that contradicts my point that it isn't that harmful. Please. Otherwise just stfu.
