I’m generally optimistic but prefer to realistic of the danger.

    Great cases are low.
Great we aren’t seeing outbreaks like other European countries.
I think vast majority of people are taking it very seriously while trying to get on with their life.

I honestly believe we can get through this. But we must be realistic and we must be cognisant of the fact what happens when you pretend this is not real. Winter will be challenging but we have the wherewithal to deal with it.

I’m more concerned about schools than I am of country pubs. But what the **** do I know.

Question. Why are offices not returning to normal service but schools are?

Can come up with a couple of reasons.
What schools do actually is essential - a large part of what goes on in almost all offices is not.
What schools do cannot in large part be done remotely or substituted for.
Most office work can be done by people working from home.

The virus forcing Ireland to keep schools closed indefinitely would be a real disaster. It would be much worse than the pubs and clubs being shuttered, or people's foreign travel being curtailed, although one might not think so at times from the media focus such issues receive. Only other time (I can think of) that education of children would get so severely disrupted is when a country has been invaded/is at war.

    I feel the same CE.

My worry though is still for my parents, and we have a long way to go.

Meanwhile, North Korea has had its first case, national emergency declared.

North Korea reports its first case.
Ten minutes later they have no cases :D

I have met up with people for coffee.

I see no distancing. I haven't kept distance from those I meet. I guess this is the norm?

I'll probably continue to do what I see others do as long as cases are so low.

Just wondering how others feel about this

My youngest son is 20. He met up with a group of friends in Clare two weeks ago tomorrow. They rented 2 houses. About 30 odd, students. Life goes on.

I think now it's about how you feel about it yourself, now is the time to protect yourselves and if that means masking up inside or keeping our distance with loved ones so be it - a year, maybe more before a vaccine/treatment but eternity is a lot longer. I'm erring on the side of caution for the rest of this year, looking forward to seeing friends and family members in better times and when we can behave normally in 2021.

Would a balaclava be considered a mask as I wear one under motorcycle helmet. At the moment during summer I don’t so I put on a mask after taking off motorcycle helmet but coming into colder months I will be back wearing balaclava under helmet.

If it covers mouth and nostrils, yes.

I guess so. I just see people meeting up and SD and I'm doing the same.

I don't know. SD seems to be gone, and the chances of you meeting someone with the virus seems very low.

Well if we don't social distance, that chance is going to increase quite rapidly. Most people are still doing their bit and will continue to do it, there will always be a very visible group of people who don't. We don't need 100% compliance, the 80% will carry the rest as usual.

If you saw 10 people sticking their hand into a fire would you do it too?

Evaluate your own risk and make your own choices based on it

I think we can ignore anything you say as regards 'your' family as it's probably lies.

A defector who went South 3 years and ago and sneaked back in.

    Seems legit.

    He is dead.

Just looking at a few things there. Sligo hasn’t had a case since that family cluster a couple of weeks ago.
It shows that contacting tracing works and people isolated as well.

Things not looking good for aerlingus. We just lost city jet.
When is Ireland going to reopen to the same level as the rest of Europe?

Concentration, I mean, confinement camps from Monday in Spain if you test positive even if you are asymptomatic.

Just remember, it is for *your* safety. It won't be long, don't worry. Your kids will be looked after.

It already is unofficially, plenty of people left Dublin this morning for Spain, uninsured as a result of government travel advice. If they need to be repatriated Mr & Mrs Taxpayer in this country will be picking up the tab, makes no sense, either ban the flights or green list them all.

Europe will be reversing some openings very soon I'd imagine.

No, it isn't for your safety. It's for the safety of others, like your kids.

If one student had it, he/she would likely have spread it to multiple others and they in turn are then likely to bring it home to their family and on and on and on.

I know a house party amongst young people seems innocent but the ramifications could be massive if they are unlucky enough to have a case.

The concept of exponential growth is simply lost on many people.
