I know someone in Kilkenny in top 20 in Batch 1.1 who hasn't been interviewed despite having passed round 2 over a year ago. Seems they've only bothered to interview 10/15 - + you could probably count actual appointments on one hand. Furthermore the biggest public sector recruiter in last 2/3 years has been the Gardaí and they're running their own internal EO competition. You really have to wonder what the point is!

I emailed PAS today just for an update too and they said there had not been any movement for Carlow and there would not be for the continuation of this campaign which is due to end shortly. Also confirmed what others are saying that a new campaign will begin in the next few weeks.

Complete waste of time for everyone

How do they know that they'll be no requests for staff, or is it the case any future requests will be allocated from new panel?

They'll have interviewed a small number who will be on the panel in case a sudden vacancy arose - and er, it's the public service - staffing requests will be summarily IGNORED while some poor sap in whatever section picks up the slack for untold months/years lol

    Also note: EO2019 is dead:

    Long live EO2020!

For EO 2020 unless your in the top 5 regionally you may as well forget about it

Back to the start, it's so disheartening.. but what's the alternative? Stay going as a CO?? I'll lose my mind!

Oh good luck with that ... Maybe they will call a few more before the new panel is set up, fingers crossed . Very frustrating.. they called up to OOM just 2 places before me and no movement since early this year then ... Really thought might have had an interview before panel closes up .. not looking good.

I'd say they probably will. They wont be ready to hire anybody from the 2020 panel until around December at the earliest maybe, so any vacancies arising before then will probably come from whomever they have interviewed off the 2019 panel

I don't know for CO 2020 the applications opened march and old panel closed in may

They’ve said that they won’t be calling from the new panel until November so still hope for people near the top.

They said this closes september and if a vancancy comes in during october I'd expect that they'll call people to interview from 2020 panel and place them in November

Hi Guys can anyone tell me if I qualify for the new EO comp announced today,? It says on the booklet you need to have obtained a pass in ordinary maths and irish or english, I have the pass in english but unfortunately done foundation level maths, anyways I went on to college and obtained a level 6.
Now in the information booklet it says you need a level 7 degree or a leaving cert or equivalent so would my level 6 stand to me as equivalent/ higher than a leaving cert? It's very confusing as I dont know why there looking for a degree yet are happy enough to take someone with just a leaving cert...

You also need at least a C in 5 higher level subjects if you’re ticking the leaving cert box.. but a level 6 shouldn’t be an issue as leaving cert is equivalent to level 5.. no harm to email pas and double check

It is confusing as you can be eligible by:

    *Level 7 degree

*Completion of 1st year of a degree leading to level 7 (which is eqv to Level 6)

    * Leaving Cert with 5 higher level (which is eqv to Level 5)

Your best of send them an email

Was there any movement for Carlow or Kilkenny?

Very disappointed reading that the campaign will close in September. Thought these campaigns usually ran for 2 years.

I got called for Kilkenny today. Had completely written it off as I was oom 2 batch 2 since interview months ago. The panels not over yet...

    That's great news! Congrats!

I emailed PAS just for an update at I was Batch 1 top 10, and got an emailing back stating there had been no movement for Carlow thus far and there wouldn't be for the remainder of the competition. Not sure there's any point even choosing Carlow in the new campaign

    Hi All
any hope of more interviews in Galway and Mayo, OOM hasnt moved in over 6 months. Do they only call for interview when they reach your OOM?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 932 ✭✭✭Vologda69

I very much doubt it for Mayo anyway.
I was batch 1:1 and external panel has only moved 7 places since it started in August last year. Hasn't moved at all since February. There are a few of us still left on the panel so can't see them doing more interviews with a new campaign starting

Just did interview this morning. Not too hopeful. A lot of awkward questions and looked for 2 or 3 examples in some competencies. Very tough. Id be very surprised if I made it through to be honest. And it was a Zoom call too which didn't help matters. Anyway, I'll put it down to experience. Now to work on EO 2020 ....

Fingers crossed you did well enough to get an offer! Which county were you called for?

Hey, I had an interview too, it was tough enough, I had prepared examples but sometimes the way the questions are posed, it's difficult to work examples in. I actually was glad it was on Zoom, slightly less nervous than being in the room. Good luck anyway, sometimes our own analysis of these situations can be worse than it actually was.
