Beautiful looking e tron. The black trim and mirrors makes it.
    Well wear.
Did you manage to haggle anymore after lockdown?

How do you find the size of the etron compared to the glc in terms of boot space and rear passenger space?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,904 ✭✭✭hooch-85

While I like the look of the Etron, they really don't look like a €100k+ vehicle. What's the net cost after grants on them? I can't seem to find it online.

€85k ish RRP, €10k grants off that before you talk to them / negotiate.
EVs are expensive, a Kia Niro is €40k iirc.

its much bigger, for reference against a q5 (which is glc sized give or take)

Q5 is 4.6m long Q7 is 5m long and an Etron is 4.9m plus the packaging benefits of it being an EV makes it a roomy car.

Boot space was 550 for GLC and its over 600 for the e-tron, and in practical terms it fulls much bigger (we have a buggy in our boot normally and in the glc it took up most of the space on the e-tron we have plenty of extra)

Rear passenger space is again appreciably bigger than the glc which was one of our requirements (and which is why discounted the EQC)

Etron 50 starts at 80k for the base spec, 85k for the sport and 90k (give or take for the s-line), the 55 is 20k plus give or take on top of each.

and as you say 10k off each price for grants.

So for example my Etron 50 sport with some discount and the grant was 72k.

not sure what a 100k car looks like to be honest, the closest audi equivalent is the q8, same size and a 5 seater.

The E92 M3 is an absolutely epic car. That engine is in a completely different league to anything else I've tried. The DCT box is sublime. The handing is what you'd expect from an M car.

Take care of the rod bearings and they're pretty reliable as M3s go actually. Obviously there is the M tax on everything parts wise, but you can't buy an M car and then start fretting about the running costs.

I saw my old M3 for sale in Deane Motors a few weeks ago. I've seen it on the road several times over the last few years. 08D12528. It's exactly 10 years since I sold it and it's the only old car I've had that I'd consider buying back. That V8. :D

And 10 years on, I own a 2007 325 SE with over 200,000kms on the clock that wouldn't start for me last week due to a flat battery :D

Do you get a free set of tyres or something with the e tron? Thought I read that somewhere.
Are they offering decent pcp rates on them do you know?
PCP is probably the safest way to buy an electric car I reckon as the tech is moving quickly.

no but you have a compulsory 1k add on to the price that is a 4 year service plan which includes a set of tyres in the period (for wear only)

PCP rates 3.9% which isnt bad and yes i agree with you, i foresee annual changes to be honest so ill probably keep it 2 years and move on with the tech, a gteed 400k range would do me to be honest.

interested to see what the taycan prices are like in 2 years, if i could get away without a buggy a few options open up :o

Would a diesel Saab 9-3 be a bad idea for someone that does 2000 miles a year?

Seems expensive for what it is and I would have thought a petrol car would be a better bet.

I test drove one today. I put 160k miles on a diesel e92 ten years ago so very familiar with the model, but never sat in the M3 before. The one I looked at was in A1 condition, very, very clean. Coming from a diesel it felt like I was stretching it a little and realised I was still short shifting around 5-6k rpm. I didn't want to push it on too much as the car is more capable than me. He made me an offer on my own which is too low so need to weigh up options still.

Although the engine is unreal and I would love to have one on the drive, it's very hard to justify all the expense of running and owning for that soundtrack.

I'm seeing alot of Teslas on around so went to test drive one and I dont see what people see in them , looks like a mazda 6 .

    I'm looking at getting a

    1 Audi A7 Sline
    2 BMW 3 Series
    3 Range Rover discovery

Looking for a petrol saloon that is more comfortable, more powerful and is a bit nicer looking than a 99 Nissan Almera. That isn't a BMW/Audi/Merc.

Searches for the above return some Mazda 3/6's and Lexus.

Like the look of the Lexus IS 250 Exec, interior is much nicer than the others. The auto is another plus from a comfort POV I think.

Downside is the tax but currently has 8 months worth.
Shame about the scratches on the front drivers side as well.

    Any thoughts?

3 very different cars there. And just to be pedantic the discovery isn't a range rover, it's a land rover so you won't get the prestige badge. Surprised its not badged range rover though with the price of them.
The a7 s line is the nicest car there by a distance in my opinion but it depends what you're looking for. 3 series may be marginally more practical but like for like doesn't measure up to an a7.
Will be cheaper though, by a good bit.

Sent my car details off to a crowd called Zucars for a valuation. I think they are part of the keary group in Cork.
They offered me just over 27k for it.

Part of Joe Duffy group (my old employer) I believe. Sell some good stuff but not normally retailed out of a franchised dealership.

Friend bought his A6 off them and they were great to deal with. He had an issue with the clutch and they replaced that, flywheel, and a few other bits all under warranty no questions asked.

I believe they are under the Joe Duffy brand (https://www.irishtimes.com/business/retail-and-services/joe-duffy-motors-new-no-haggle-used-car-network-will-also-buy-your-car-1.3772453)

That's pretty decent for a first time offer. It's obviously a good bit below what the car is worth but they do have to stand by the car and make a profit.

    Are you considering it?

Yeah 520 msport touring with lots of option packs.
I had no expectations to be honest.
Sent off pictures and descriptions and offer returned. You have to then go for a physical exam of the car where I figure they try to find fault and knock more off the price.

Not considering it at that. I think it’s low.
It’s no great hardship to put it up on done deal at some stage and See what happens.
There’s a similar spec up for sale in bmw dealer in Kerry with a few more miles for 39k so mine has to be worth a bit more.
I am in no rush. I just was curious But if the offer had been a few grand higher would have considered it. I don’t even know what I’d buy to be honest.

When I was changing car, I did the same - sent off pics and description and it also happened to be in Cork. They came back with a much better figure than anything I got in Dublin. They stuck to it on viewing my vehicle.

I put an inquiry for my 151 530d into a similar crowd, sent them a few photos and they came back with 1 bid of 16k. I know it's worth more than that and I'd rather try selling it privately and sit on it for a while than entertain a low trade offer.

All you will get off those valuemycar crowds is a below trade value offer. They are sort of agents/middle men who when getting an inquiry will put it out to their list of their trade buyer contacts for offers. Remember that the middle man has to get his share along with the trader buying so that eats into how much they will offer you for it as the car is still only going to sell for so much. Your also wasting your time telling them about any options it is has, they are trade just looking to turn over stock at the highest margin so have no interest in giving you extra money for it because it has x, y or z extra over a standard model. Yes it will make it easier to sell on but they won't tell you that when giving you an offer.
