Even if you feel a quote is too high, you have to pay and then can question it and provide proof of others selling for the lower price.
This is pointless though on any older diesel.

You are looking at 2016 cars onwards in most cases.

I did ring today and spoke to a limerick agent in revenue. Asked him to check and he point blank refused. He said he gets over 20 of these calls a day and no he is not checking it for me. He said its not his job to check and if it shows up a price online thne u have to pay it. He was so ignorant. Point blank refused to help me even though I told him my situation. Deposit was paid on jeep and I've paid foe the ferry

Put the car through an auction in the uk and get something else.

You entered the car incorrectly into the VRT calculator.

There is no way that you can buy a car for 7k in the UK that has an OMSP (market value) of 30k here. At a guess, you probably entered the year as a 2020 model

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 419 ✭✭walshtipp

The NOx value for that car is only 0.125g/km
You did not enter a value on your calculation, therefore it defaulted to maximum value of 0.251g/km.
If you calculate the VRT using proper NOx value, it amounts to €4,183.

    Statistical Code - 40388336

I said without being sarcastic. Another commenter is being smart about what I posted. I thanked you for giving me a reply WITHOUT being sarcastic..

    Sorry picked it up wrong

Unfortunately you are getting hit with the new VRT, stick the money in an account somewhere and hope the pound goes back up

I said this at the beginning, OP you didn’t enter the Nox amount and it defaulted to charging you the maximum amount of €4,850. Another poster has just pointed out the correct amount of Nox the car produces and gives a total of €4183

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 110 ✭✭tinkerbell2310

Send the car back OP. Clowns like you don’t deserve nice things

    How am I a clown?

Am I mistaken here by saying you can claim back the vrt or part of,if you import a hybrid or full electric car from England..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,368 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

Back out of the sale, the NOX charges are there to stop people importing diesels.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 110 ✭✭tinkerbell2310

Next condescending post towards the OP will get a ban. Please keep replies helpful, we dont all know it all.

If it's only a £200 deposit, then get out. Maybe open a new thread asking for best uk buy for £xxx with lowest vrt/nox

Even within the same model the nox can vary from under €100 to over €2,000

OP, does the revised (actual) calculation posted above (of 4k) make it any better a deal for you?

However, my advice: Take your £7,000 and bring it to the Bank. You'll likely get about €7,500 or so, which would be enough to get a quick sale on this, I'd say:

Op if you need help or an idea what would suit just ask, I'm sure we could help as best as we can.

Your best option is to buy Irish or ones that were vrt before the new tax.

If you can get a few more quid together you may well do better buying across the water but hybrid or electric and euro6 diesel are really the oy option.

Keep some of the money and use towards other bits.
Plenty of decent cars out there...

Op do you actually need or want a newer car ? Or is just an idea as you have sterling ? Maybe you could get deposit back or buy another suitable car from the dealer ?

Wagons of death, have killed thousands of people in this country, attractive tax rates originally brought in by The Greens along with wood burning stoves of death. They should be in a court in The Hague for those their policies have killed off.

Hybrids and electric cars get a VRT rebate which is automatically deducted from the VRT amount. The VRT rebate amount decreases depending on the age of the car.

Your €200 deposit will be gone, but you should be able to change the date of the ferry for a small fee, so you shouldn’t lose that.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15,752 ✭✭✭✭Shefwedfan

To the OP, start a thread with your requirement and people will advise, VRT has changed, which is good, you just need to be careful

A car is not really an investment with money either

I'm sure lots of Irish dealers would except Sterling too.
