Not at all, just wondering if they are so good at catching a highly infectious disease, surely the govt should be providing biohazard bins to ensure the correct disposal of these deadly masks. Like they have for syringes. Kids pick up all sorts on the streets, it’s not necessarily a council/refuse worker who’ll be picking them up.

If an infected person is dropping masks on the street, they could be dropping anything else they have touched on the street. A general policy of avoiding anything on the streets is advisable regardless of masks.

    Everyone is touching them

They shouldn't be but even if they do, better they touch a mask than sneeze and cough into your face.

I witnessed all this a few minutes ago, customer drove up with mask around chin, got out of car, pulled up mask from the front, proceeded into shop, paid in cash, walked out of shop pulled down mask by the front again and got back into car.
Now his hands touched the money that touched his mask.
Tell me again that there is no risk there and the general public have the cop on to use ppe the way it was intended.
I'd love to post the CCTV just to prove to you how screwed up this whole mandatory masks policy is.
Btw he never cleaned his hands cause he's safe wearing a mask.

I don't have to tell you again but nobody here said there was no risk.

I notice you didn't challenge my point so I'll repeat it.
Better he touches his mask than coughs or sneezes inside the store.
It's whataboutery when it you raise those risks as a means to ignore the primary one.

You'll have to explain to us how you know the reason why he didn't clean his hands is because he was wearing a mask.
Also, how you know the money he handed over would be safe without the mask.
Nobody is saying wear a mask, or that by wearing a mask you can ignore all those other measures such as clean hands and distancing.
Just that clean hands isn't enough without clean air.

Mask or no mask, you should be assuming any money is a possible hazard.

They're not a hazard if you dont touch them, the droplets that may potentially be holding virus particles are trapped in the mask. So put them in the bin carefully and then try to keep your hands out of the rubbish bin. Hopefully you don't usually go around sticking your hands in bins (with or withour gloves).

Social media has been rampant with pictures of masks discarded everywhere. Stevie Wonder could see them thrown all over the place.

So what is your point? you asked where the biohazard bins are I explained that any bin will do.

Your answer to that is that you have seen masks discarded on the road? What has that got to do with biohazard bins? They should be in bins, if you see a mask discarded on the road try not to touch it...the same goes for any other rubbish or dog sh1te.

Correct use of mask (which is rare) does nothing to protect the user, incorrect use of masks (rampant) puts us all at increased risk as it removes benefit of hand sanitising unless folk sanitise after every touch of their mask (which they don't).

Better he doesn't touch his face at all but if not, better he touches the mask than sneezes or coughs in your shop.
What are you going to do then, shut for a few hours and deep clean your shop?

You continue to ignore the primary risk staring you in the face and focus on these side effect risks.

Yes, some people are clueless when it comes to masks.
Yes, there are some secondary risks with handling of masks.
Does that mean we shouldn't use masks? No.
That would only be a coherent argument if the secondary risks of wearing masks were greater than their primary benefit - limiting the droplets produced by an infected person when they cough or sneeze or speak.

It's not about protecting the user directly. Never has been.
How are you going to protect the rest of us from the sneeze or cough or saliva of an infected person on a busy bus or inside a busy shop?

Everyone is touching them, I'm a retailer with multiple locations, some here might be good at proper usage but what I'm seeing every day is the compete opposite of what some here believe is reality.
It's great saying dispose of them properly, it's not happening, I could give you hundreds of examples but I'd run into a gdpr issue. Leo and Martin are living in la la land.

Is it any wonder why we have some of the highest infections rates amougst health care workers in the world.

Know people who wont dispose them but using the same mask day after day after day
One here using the same one from march and dont say anything about it or there is a war starting
She says im the only one whos using this one , its mine so i can use it when i like
Others i know dont know how to wear or use a mask , nobody told them

I know that, me stating it doesn't mean I've just come up with the concept.

Avoiding being within 2m of others along with hand sanitising is most definitely here to stay ......... both are essential and have been recognised as being so. Personally I won't be setting foot in a busy shop or a busy bus. Loads of fookers incorrectly using face masks and touching surfaces, fook that. Masks cannot be used as a mitigation to crowd places again. Social distancing is the priority.

And if they have unknown covid improper use of a face mask is largely useless and can lead to more contaminated surfaces then if they had no mask.

I'm not disagreeing with your personal plan.
Or implying that distancing and hand sanitising aren't important also.

Just that if we want to get people back to work and shops open, I think on public transport it's going to be reduced to 1 metre and masks. The capacity isn't there and not everyone can work from home or get in via alternative transport.

The point of the mask is that he's not spreading the infection from his breathing. I don't know why people don't get this. A mask is to restrict your spreading. It's only effective for you when everyone else is doing the same. Handling cash is a different case and the use of masks is irrelevant as the outcome is the same regardless of wearing a mask or not.

Assume supermarket surfaces are contaminated. Masks or not.
People touch their faces for lots of reasons while out shopping that have nothing to do with masks - phones, use tissues etc
Their hands reach for their wallet or other personal item, which are infected.
    Then onto the trolley.

From my unscientific observations, it seems that people making the effort to wear masks are also the ones who are using hand sanitizers.

Just because you touch a mask, doesn't make it more likely to spread by contaminated touching regardless. If you have it, you're breathing it over yourself.

To be fair it was on the radio this morning and they were referring to a scenario where the wouldnt be able to handle a surge if it happened in conjuntion with an outbreak of the flu during the middle of winter. Thats the real threat. They can handle one but 2 at once is the danger.

Everyone should get the flu jab when it's available before this winter to help reduce the possibility of a bad flu outbreak, they should really be emphasising the importance of this now and have some kind of campaign where it's free or really cheap or something to help encourage more to get it. But with people wearing masks indoors it should also help

I do, but improper mask use will quite likely result in more contaminated surfaces. Everyone seen using a mask incorrectly is unlikely to be a master at hand hygiene.

Masks are now compulsory in shops........ I don't think your/anyones observations are a large enough sample size to be honest.

Proper mask use is fantastic............. I don't think the majority of mask wearers are doing it properly though, that's opinion, I've no data.

    It's getting real...

GARDAÍ HAVE ATTENDED an incident on a train to Cork where a member of the public refused to wear a face covering or mask.
On the 7pm Dublin-to-Cork train last night, Gardaí boarded the train at Thurles at 8.20pm, after being alerted to the incident by Irish Rail staff. Once Gardaí arrived the man put on a face covering, but was then arrested for an alternative offence.

And there we have it. "If they keep the R number down...". A public policy decision being taken with no clear evidence but because it makes people feel safer.

Czechia: 13,612 cases and 355 deaths

Slovakia: 1,965 cases and 28 deaths

Ireland: 25,698 cases and 1,749 deaths

Czechia has around twice our population and Slovakia has around the same size population as us. Both countries are smaller so they're more densely populated than us. Both countries are also located closer to Italy -- the epicentre of the pandemic in Europe -- and had their first cases around the same time as us, a bit earlier actually if I remember correctly. Both countries implemented masks as a measure in Mid to late March, with their officials wearing masks during all daily briefings and public addresses to help encourage their normalisation and usage. Their lockdowns were not as extreme and nowhere near as long as ours and they got their curve suppressed quicker than we did. Their medical experts massively attribute their objectively great success in handling the pandemic very well compared with the rest of Europe to the high percentage of people respecting and adhering to the mask guideline.

Outside of Europe, looking at the Asian countries which have relatively recent experience with similar outbreaks who have handled it excellently, we see similarly great results and, again, their medical experts strongly urged people to wear masks from the beginning.

Taiwan: 454 cases and 7 deaths

Hong Kong: 1,714 cases and 10 deaths

Two regions literally right next to China with populations of 7.4m and 23.7m, got their first cases way before us, and again very densely populated countries.

The medical experts in these Asian countries and regions certainly would know better about handling these things than our own, and they've been saying masks should be used since the start. Yet we've people such as yourself many months into this pandemic arguing against them, like morons. An absolute joke! It's such a small inconvenience to wear a barrier over our faces yet it helps so much, so get the **** over it.

Good. I saw that on Twitter yesterday.
In fairness sounds like he did put a mask on eventually but obviously other issues.

I am going on the enterprise to Belfast on Sunday to see my folks and family up north for the first time since December, so really hoping it is being enforced.
