Had been leaking oil for a while, brought car to one garage that told me it was fixed and then decided to bring it to an indy that was recommended. He fixed it and showed me the video of oil dripping the whole way back along the car. Changed the clutch too, man they are expensive.

Pointed out that one of my wishbone nuts was snapped off. More expense but hopefully not too much. Wishbone is still in place although who knows for how long.

    Fvck Mondays

    What car? Just curious.

2011 mondeo. Brake discs need doing too or something to do with the brakes as they're making a rubbing noise while I'm braking and there's a bit of a wobble :(

Sounds like it shouldn't be on the road TBH.

This whole NOx charge. Is there something in it that post 2015 stuff has less to pay? Heard that somewhere. It really really is destroying importing anything nice. Getting thrown back 2500 on some cars just for Nox, before vrt.

For diesels anything euro 6 will have a low nox charge so basically anything from 2016 on.

No, I posted that in the dreamer thread a couple of months ago and it's still for sale so it seems. He still must think he is going to get that price for it. Not a chance it is very clean but nobody will pay that much for that gen celica.

Not my old one but pretty much identical. Mine was 02.

Was only looking back yesterday (see the bangernomics thread), i sold mine for €1300 in 2015. Mine wasn't as absolutely tidy as that but it was well sorted and very good for what it was.

That's a really lovely car he has but he'll be a long time waiting for €5500, in fact he'd be a long time waiting for €2500 IMO. The only reason anyone wants a gen7 is to take the engine out to put into other things.

Here's another one in the UK for 5k Sterling.

I just found a great car on Auto Trader.

Ya i had that in mind but hoped they would be a bit looser on that for an existing customer

    Quick question folks:
1986 car. Is that guaranteed to not have NCT, or does it depend on when it was registered in Ireland?

No it needs a NCT but every two years rather than a single year. 40 years old no NCT needed.

Ok, cheers. Few years to go then.

My Dad is looking to change his A4 at the moment and a few garage are offering him mad trade in values like seriously the car isn’t worth what they are offering. Some seem quite openly desperate to sell cars. It’s fairly high mileage so most aren’t going to put it on their forecourt and what it would make in the trade would be a long way off what they are offering. Most of the cars he is looking at are fairly reasonably priced to begin with.

Not sure is it a sign of the times or maybe just luck on his part. But I have never seen anything like it and I have bought a few cars at this stage!

Yes he is actually nearly gone paranoid the deals are too good but main dealer, warranty and a newish car the risk is fairly low anyway.

Strange times indeed. 2nd hand car values are strong in certain models - perhaps down to minimal new registrations thanks to the C word. Supply and demand I suppose.

Just pay special attention to the cost to change versus the flattering trade in values some dealers are throwing about.

CIP probably knows more about that than the dealers do.

Another query based on the same car.
It's a pickup. Could it still be DOE'd at that age? Do they automatically switch to private use when the tax goes to vintage?

If not, at what age does DOE stop?

Anyone know how to disable / disconnect an old car alarm on an old Corolla ?

It's after market and not worth ****e. Goes off by itself etc. Doesn't control the central locking either. I can see a black square stuck to the bulk head but the wire coming from hit goes into the cabin so not sure about just pulling it !

The second image below is some sort of key for the alarm I'm guessing ? Maybe someone can advise ?

You will have to find the main box be under the dash some where. Hard to miss once you take the panel off and then just trace the wires.

Look for the reams of bundled up wire and insulating tape and trace back from those.

There's a lot happening under the dash... Where would I begin to look ?

Very few lads I've seen fitting alarms do a particularly neat job, so look for piles of excess wire coiled up and a massive amount of insulating tape. It'll likely start somewhere under the steering wheel so you can trace it from there.
