rubbish, they can keep that open for importing and exporting of goods, but why should we be open for example American tourists, a country that has the virus running wild and out of control, if the shoe was on the other foot then their would be no chance of Irish being allowed in to America..........

Respectfully, you’re ranting now and not thinking rationally. The US wont make a green air corridor list at the moment. So you need not worry about an influx of visitors. You legislate to ensure that if you are not on the approved list you isolate. And police it.

To date the US are not on any published list of any EU country yet. It will force them to pull their socks up if they are on the forbidden list over a period of time.

You can’t close borders and airports indefinitely. If you really think that, you’re focus and understanding of how a country works is very limited.

A green air corridor between countries of similar ‘R’ values means the onus is on all of those countries to ensure it’s kept to a minimum. The fallout of not is very financially penalising.

Well, once they get the message that Americans aren't welcome here and we can shut down all U.S flights and close the borders then that should send out the right message... Ireland is closed! I know Investors will understand that bit.

If you think investors give a toss whether tourists from their country can roam freely when deciding on setting up operations there then you have even less of a clue than your posts already suggest.

I see on the evening news a group of American tourists booked an electric bike tour in clare. The operator asked had they quarantined for 14 days. Their response was they filled in forms on arrival but were not aware they had to. The operator cancelled the booking and refunded. The health minister interviewed later says we've all made sacrifices and tourism ire not actively encouraging foreign visitors, clearly the Americans don't do sacrificing, Its disgraceful

Nothing will be achieved if WE are told to stay at home whilst those from Covid hotspots can arrive and mingle with us as they wish.

No one is prepared to tackle this anomaly. I am very disappointed in the lack of direction/leadership here.

This, I work in Intel and they were enforcing a 14 day quarantine on people traveling from abroad weeks before the government took similar action.

Intel, Google et al are not the problem here, they see the need for responsible behaviour.

The government needs to act. Set criteria, and don't allow people from places beyond those limits. They could allow people from certain states in the US if they wanted to, but the present situation is untenable.

Cos only American tourists comes here? Business people like company directors definitely don't travel abroad?

I can assure you most multinational companies do not want to see caution thrown to the wind and a risk of their businesses being disrupted, as is happening in the USA, occurring here.

A bunch of Texans wandering around Killarney have nothing to do with operations of businesses here.

The USA also banned trips from Ireland several months ago.

    too damned right.

People here in the States will fight for their country, will wave the flag and go to arms to protect their property.... but they wont wear a F***ing mask to protect themselves and others????

ALL business knows at this stage that international travel is not happening.

The fact Karen and Bob from Iowa (who are seeing a massive rise is cases due to no social distancing and no masks worn in Iowa) can arrive in Ireland is just mind blowing for me.

What the F*** are the politicians there thinking? More to the point DO they think?

As has been pointed out by most posters, these companies already have travel embargoes. They don't want their operations shut due to a case or cases coming from a foreign office on a jolly. Potential loss of millions in revenue to cater for something that could be achieved on Microsoft teams.

Yes, there is no business travel happening right now unless classified essential. It has been banned in my large US MNC since February and will last well into next year

Yes you can..............We are in unprecedented times, why should we worry about the Americans and keeping them sweet ? It is not about ranting and raving it is about hard facts.... Fact........America is over run with the virus yet our borders are open to them, The people living in this country are told to do this and that to keep the virus at bay yet on the other hand the people telling us this are letting every Tom, Dick and Harry in to the country, which in turn makes redundant the sacrifices the people already here are making.......

Just on the poster “sailing” claiming America isn’t on a published no fly list yet....Americans are banned from the schengen zone aren’t they?

The schengen zone is basically the whole rest of Europe except Ireland and Uk

Yes which makes it even more infuriating as to why we haven't seen fit to do the same.

I'm struggling to make sense of this because there are flights from the US arriving at Frankfurt Airport tomorrow, and flights arriving at Schiphol too.

Or is it that tourists aren't allowed but other essential travellers are?

Not at the moment, no. Most companies have bans on international travel. I work for a multinational and there is no business travel of anyone in or out.

Found this on the German embassy
    https://www.bmi.bund.de/SharedDocs/faqs/EN/topics/civil-protection/coronavirus/coronavirus-faqs.html#doc13797140bodyText3

From 2 July 2020 onwards, an imperative need for entry into Germany is deemed to exist for the following persons:

healthcare workers, health researchers and geriatric care workers,
skilled and highly qualified foreign workers if their employment is necessary from an economic perspective and the work cannot be postponed or performed abroad,
freight transport and other transport personnel,
    seasonal workers in agriculture,
    seafarers,
foreign students whose course of study is not fully possible from abroad,
persons immigrating to Germany for the purpose of joining their families and persons visiting Germany for urgent family reasons,
persons in need of international protection or protection for other humanitarian reasons,
diplomats, staff of international organisations, military personnel and humanitarian aid workers in the exercise of their functions,
    ethnic German resettlers,
    passengers in transit.
    ...

That’s really hyperbolic nonsense. The majority of the rest of Europe has closed temporarily to non essential traffic from the USA. The US Canadian border is closed. You can’t get into many Asian countries at all or have to go through testing. Australia and NZ aren’t allowing very many flights in.
The US also blocked all inbound non citizens / non residents from Ireland, the U.K. and the rest of the EU.

Are you saying we should decide Americans hate us and that we should immediately withdraw all investment over what is a temporary public health control measure?

Not all investors or company directors, engineers, techs, etc. can fix everything or make decisions over zoom..

Not every industry had a full ban on, they just can't get the employee's into the country..

Anyways, not the thread to go into detail...
