There is more to a car than just the battery, it's is primary concern but there are many other factors which is why I decided on an 2020 leaf Over everything else currently available.

Leaf has its purpose regardless of the folks here like the car or not. Which is clear many don't. However I would agree that as the competition heats up further, the availability of 2nd hand m3. The leaf days of being dominant or even in the top list ev cars sold are numbered. That will affect selling price if you plan on selling on.... That's if.

60 will soon be the norm, 4 years 80 possibly. So 40 is only really going to suit a particular use and that's city driving/short commutes.

If you can hold off -Do, otherwise just go for it and enjoy it.

That was my point, hence I mentioned 2021, brand new ID.3 won't cost much more than that 2019 Leaf and will have more range

A user here just got a 2019 Kona 64kWh for €30k. That has near twice the range of the Leaf and can charge near twice as quickly too.

But it looks like your really, really want a Leaf, so no one stopping you here. It's your moneys! But expect steep depreciation over the next few years compared to other EVs. The Leaf is a 10 year old car, really on its last legs, terribly inefficient, obsolete charging standard and no battery cooling

Saw someone on facebook get a 192 Ioniq 38kWh for 26k landed, no vrt apparently

Thought it was a good deal

    38kWh?

You link to a 28kWh, for sale for just under GBP25k, so far more expensive than 26k landed...

There was (is?) Kramer's 191 Ioniq 28kWh for sale for €23k, in excellent condition

    Apologies

Not the car that guy bought, but similar price

I'd imagine he got a bit off list, Ioniq 38kWh hasn't been received well but with 35-40% more range and slower charging, still decent machine

Yep. Low battery ID3 (45 kWh) will be 27-28k in Ireland. Unless the VW do some crooked move. The question is how quickly can they deliver, will it be Q1?

You'd get very little off, so that means it will be the guts of €28k landed. Not bad for the range that's for sure.

Man the Kona is starting to come down alright

    Sterling is at 90c now

    31k or so for a 64kWh Kona

When ID3 is produced in volume next year, going to be bargains to be had, so long as brexit doesn't screw it up

Madlad might not be so mad with his depreciation fears

That looks like the 38kwh one, 180 mile range.

Goes to show what a good deal the guy got over here in Ireland at EUR30k for the 64kWh version.

Out at the Athlone Motorway Service station today (another test drive:rolleyes:) and the amount of guys trying to hook up to the (almost permanently) broken Circle K 50kW charger was a joke, three of them at it and all PHEVs.
Kona hooked up the the Chargepoint charger and all 4 Ionity's idle as usual

Bjorn visited the opening of a new Circle K in Norway.

    Circle K points
    4 x 150 kW
    4 x 50 kW
Space to increase to a total of 20

    Tesla Superchargers, V3 (250 kW?) x 20

Also a bonus peek at a Tesla Mobile Service car.

Interesting that the supercharger only had CCS connectors.

One way to up sell the CCS conversion I guess.

    V3
The tesla type2 DC can't support more than 140-150kW due to its setup. It was a muled type 2, outside of spec, and the Tesla CCS supercharger is outside of CCS spec aswell.

    No i really want a K3 eSoul, EQC, el-Born or I.D. Buzz but finances don't allow :(
I dont agree it's on it's last legs though as even just this year alone it's still number 1 for sales, i would see it declining in the coming months but it will still stay in the top 5 sales/registration wise here for a while longer particularly as it makes up such a large part of the used market.

There's no denying it's very old tech at this stage. The first EV of the modern era and things have moved on a lot in the last decade. But if you like it and it suits your needs and you don't mind its limitations, it's a fine choice.

The one way not being able to afford the nicer cars you prefer in future though, is if you spend too much of your budget today on depreciation. I know that makes me sound like a spoil sport, but did you consider hanging on to your current car for a while longer - so you can save up towards that eSoul / el-Born etc.? I'd also be fairly hopeful you'd be able to pick up a 64kWh eSould for around the €30k privately in not too long. Someone just bought a 64kWh Kona for just that.

Under €32k from a Kia main dealer? That's pretty good. It does say that includes €3k scrappage though, have to see how that would work out.

At the guts of €40k, a brand new Kona or eSoul 64kWh are overpriced. At not much over €30k for a one (1.5) year old, they are bargains.

On the VW side of things....

You will likely be able to pick up cheaper eGolfs soon as ID3 hampers resale.

No you don't get active cooling but rapidgate affects eGolf less then the Leaf. It's also a CCS car so for charging its more future proof.

    Nicer interior and drives better.

The ID3 should be competitively priced in 45 kwh form - will have active cooling.

Will have a low spec though in entry level form.

Need to bargain hard on a Leaf tbh.

I could understand the "wait another year" stance a few years back but plenty of options right now (finances aside) so just go for it, life is short.

You're making me feel better about my eSoul purchase from a Kia dealer at €31995. Top of the range K3, 11 months old, 64 kWh battery. I thought it was a bit too expensive!

    I presume that's a 192 plate, 11 months old.
Pretty good deal IMO. Good saving off the RRP.
I saw an esoul at the EV meet in Airside just before covid, they are a lovely looking car and certainly the best value "pound for pound" of the korean triplets

It's a 191, literally only a few days shy of a 192 reg, and I bought it about a month ago. Only now getting the chance to give it a good spin.

Agree with you there, it has a funky exterior, but the interior is better than the Kona, it's a much more practical car (particularly in the back), and the quality in the front looks to be a class above the Kona. Although the Kona electric I took for a test drive was one of the first in the country, so they may have improved since then (I know they got a bigger screen in the meantime).

No, that was a pretty good deal imho. And you can't beat that range!

WHat rock are you living under! :D

Half price tolls for BEV but you need to use a toll tag, cash at the barrier is no good.

Check the provider websites for the info.... tolltag.ie etc
