I find it worrying that people identified as contacts are refusing tests - that could be as much of a source of spreading as a "rogue" tourist

Seems strange it's phrased an offer. As in someone might have thought they were grand but could have been symptomatic.

Would have thought that public health legislation would have been more stringent to get them to comply, take a test or face a fine say. 35% is a huge amount.

You're allowed to refuse a test even if you're a close contact of a confirmed case?

I never would have even considered that as a possibility. And such a high percentage doing it. Mad.

I would hate to put my children through that test; the nasal swabbing looks intense!
I would get them tested if they needed it though (hopefully they never will)

Not reflecting well on him shooting his mouth off on Cork radio like that without considering the implications and without formal public announcements to that effect.

There doesn't have to be a public announcement, we all ready know.

Phase 4 like all the phases will be contingent on public health advice and what the numbers will be like in 2 weeks.
    The main changes are:

pubs, bars, hotel bars and casinos may reopen

gatherings of up to 100 people indoors and 500 outdoors will be permissible

    It's actually a huge step.

Ok. Thanks. Lots of mixed messages.

Is a test automatic if identified by contact tracing? Or only if you symptoms?

I presume it is otherwise on the basis of GP referral?

Contacts are offered an initial test and a follow up 7 days later iirc

Lot more questions about that information, and that is not the first that comes to my mind !

Why are people so adamant that there won't be any jump from the weekend's pub antics? All it takes is one infected person to squeeze their way down Dame Lane when it was jammed with pub goers. It's not beyond the realm of possibility that there could be cases arising from the pubs opening, but I see a lot of people mocking anyone advising caution.

Sure, there's a chance that there won't be any significant increases (which I hope is the case), but that doesn't mean you just ignore all advice and ignore all social distancing rules. Does no one remember that outbreak in South Korea a few weeks ago just from one guy going from bar to bar?

Unfortunately you don’t hear much about other thousands of bars in South Korea the same night that didn’t have the issue.

There’s been house parties, can on the canal, etc going on throughout the lockdown. Protests, funerals over the limit, etc. None have led to spikes.

The issue here though is that if everyone looks at this and thinks, **** it it’s all safe, covid is gone, there may be further outbreaks. The chances of someone being asymptomatic in dame lane on Saturday are very very slim, but there are infections in the community. Considering we’re testing like mad and our positivity rate is a number of factors lower than even the false positivity rate of PCR tests, it is likely we’ll see spikes happening and hopefully be able to contain them for the most part.

People aren't sure... But, look at the previous events that had people in a twist... The BLM protests, packed beaches, huge house/estate parties etc... No increase was seen from these.

Ryanair to Introduce Covid-19 Priority Queue on All Flights
it’s not just carriers of Covid-19 that can avail of the new priority queue, anyone hoping to potentially catch and spread the disease to loved ones can pay for priority as can sexual deviants who have a coughing fetish.

    About damn time! :pac:

Nobody knows, but there have been dozens of gatherings over the last few months in particular the BLM protests that have not led to even the slightest increase. So I think everyone is saying maybe just don't panic yet, rather than them being adamant there will be no rise

I'd say probably but maybe people there didn't film it and post it online potentially. I don't think the government would actually do that when they brought forward date pubs could open by 3 weeks. Would reflect badly on them and vinters would go mad.

Yes. God forbid the government upset the Vintners Ass .

The chances of picking it up in public now in Ireland is limited at best

Hard to disagree! Thank god for the lockdown.

to slap everyone on the wrist and give them a warning. Its childish to be honest

So you think they shouldn't say anything to warn the public and the pub owners that any further risky behaviour is threatening our recovery?
That would be worse,in my opinion.

The strange tale of the cigarette lighter that spread coronavirus around a city

"As it has elsewhere in the world, the coronavirus found a hole in Australia’s system: It spread in part because of the sharing of a cigarette lighter among security guards working at a hotel where returning international travellers are being quarantined.

It later circulated in low-income neighbourhoods in the Melbourne area with sizable migrant populations, including inside a supermarket distribution centre.

The surge shows how even in countries that appear to be on track to safely resume normal life, the virus can quickly resurface."

Apparently Bluetooth exposure notifications are unavailable in my region, tho I’m using beta iOS 14, my wife’s phone seems to work with it.

What happened in Dame Lane during the weekend was wrong! end of. However, being outside the chances of catching covid are reduced by a factor of ten. ie. being outside you are a lot less prone to catching the disease.

I thing AGS and DCC should very quickly have a plan for the 20th of July to allow outdoor drinking which is safe. I think you can have a balance between some sort of crowd control and out door gatherings, however needs to be controlled.

The majority of pub owners should / will be / are responsible ..

We never hit the 100k a week capacity for tests or came close, thats including the tests we sent to Germany too. The HSE have said its been scaled down and apparently its basically being built from scratch again. Its the speed of the testing that is really important though and thats our biggest issue.

The testing times have been getting slower despite the fact that the demand has decreased a boat load. No answer for why its so much slower either.

We have time now to build an infrastructure to catch the virus before it spreads and we get a second wave. I like what Stephen Donnelly has been saying for a while now. Clearly understands the situation and what we need a lot more than Harris did. I'm slightly more optimistic that we have the people who are that bit more proactive in government now that maybe things can improve. Leo and Harris were all reactive, not proactive at all.

Stephen Donnelly is a joke in such a position.
Knows the cost of everything but the value of nothing .
Fell out with Roisín Shortall over Sláintecare because he thinks he can do a bargain basement overhaul.

There's a bit more to that story now in fairness. It wasn't just because of the cigarette lighter. They were illegally carpooling and socialising with the guests. Apparently some were even sleeping with them.

I thought that outside drinking was banned in Dublin through bye laws. This was a public order issue - AGS need to be on top of it. Meanwhile they can have some creativity around outside tables and chairs.

What if they are being swabbed as a requirement of a return to fully open schools?
