Jesus. What is going on over there

The virus mixed with the local population completely ignoring public health advice.
Same thing could happen here if we ignored SD rules etc and allow tourists from uk and USA in.

Off 4000 tests, that's still about 0.5% positivity.

Nursing homes and it seems that everyone who goes to a doctor is being offered a test now.

yeah thats my experience anyway when I just went looking for an antihistamine for hayfever I was offered a test as well.

I have a question. Let's say a family member working in England wants to come home for a visit. Would it be possible for the 14 day quarantine to be shortened if they go for a test immediately, and then another a few days later. If both were clear would that mean they could visit friends and family?

In 1% of cases it took more than 14 days to develop symptoms

    Science

For all we know the Bint could have been lying about testing positive to seek attention.

I had agreed with you that it was more than likely it was from a false positive. But I don’t know what you were referring to when you said that’s not how science works. You can get reinfections from virus, most notably influenza. It looked like you were saying that because of science it is impossible to be reinfected. And why have you called her a Bint twice (I have no clue who she is). Is it possible she thinks she has been reinfected after being told she was cured.

I wouldn't be surprised if a number of the cases today are asymptomatic given how many seem to be being offered tests, its a welcome move

    Staff?

Yep. HSE are running a 4 week testing programme. All staff will be tested once a week for the next 4 weeks. Think it started last Monday (22nd) if the nursing home got all the details to them in time for this weeks testing.

Thanks for this info, makes sense.

I suspect the vast majority are Dublin. 70+% of cases in last 3 days are from Dublin.

Citizen do you have the weekly increase in cases in Dublin please. Apologies if already posted.

Is there scientific, peer reviewed evidence yet that Covid is airborne?

    Or just speculation for now?

I will work that out for you!

edit: dublin cases went down due to 70+ denotifications

A weekly reporting of numbers would make a lot more sense at this point.

The daily fluctuations are inevitable and will only cause people to speculate and/or panic.

I don't think daily reporting is good for people's mental health.

I agree with this, 23 cases today but could be back down to under 10 tomorrow

This time last week there were 2700 tests done in 24 hours.

    Today there was almost 4000.

Why the sudden increase? Increased testing of healthcare workers?

Well we haven't been testing enough previously so it's a welcome change.

Our fatality rate is 6% yet pretty much everywhere else it's about 2%. So it's obvious that there are a lot of cases in the country that we aren't detecting. We aren't testing enough.

What he doesn’t want us to know is that 92% of those under 35 year olds will make a full and complete recovery with nothing only paracetamol

If only paracetamol was the cure nobody would have 4, 5, 6, 10 plus weeks of symptoms.

No hassle. I can't calculate the exact number due to denotifications and re-assignement of cases but like take Thursday for example, it was +9 cases and 8 were Dublin and 1 was kildare.

And what if they pass it on to older members in their family?
You have to think of others.

This is very true. Our testing at the beginning was a joke to be completely honest.

The UK have been allowed into Spain and the Islands since June 19th with no requirement for quarantine. Like us, the issue is with their FCO currently having an essential travel only advisory and a 14 day quarantine on return. They face no quarantine in Spain.

One good reason to have Spain on the red list.

I would like to see all news outlets continue to report on their headlines the daily death/new case numbers while also reporting the rolling 7 day average of the new case numbers

If a bit of panic makes people extra cautious then I think its healthy tbh.

64 cases so far it looks like tomorrow we'll have the lowest weekly number of cases since the first week of March.

Some bad news, sadly more deaths than last week, 21 in the last 6 days to just 14 last week.

Dont think you have thought that through people would still only see the final number and not workout the cases per day. Say we had a run of 23 cases for 5 days (as an example only) on Friday the headline would be 115 cases reported which would make peoples head explode tbh.

    Shin

I still concede that if we can have less than 35 cases a day we're doing really well.

1/40000 chance of contracting it at present.

Are you working on the front line to easily establish that paracetamol is the only cure for 92% of people under 35 who contract this novel coronavirus?
