Question:what happens if I was to lose my bond? Can't see anything online to say I've bought so much of prize bonds? Would the money be lost?

Ask because I bought prize bonds almost 3 weeks ago and have not received the bond in the post. My account on state savings does not mention any such purchase?

Your cert may not have been issued yet. See this post from last week by DXhound2005 https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=113775866&postcount=6077. Three weeks is long enough however, so you might want to query it with them, especially as there is a €1m prize this Friday !

In any event, your money isn’t lost. Any prizes you are lucky enough to win will be paid to you in the form you chose when purchasing. And the capital is repayable at any time after an initial three month window. The Prize bond redemption form has the following note relating to lost bonds:
    2. LOST PRIZE BOND
If the original Prize Bond Certificate(s) cannot be located please attach a short note confirming same, please also provide any
variations in the name(s) and or address(es) that may have been used at the time the Bonds in question were purchased. Once we receive this information we will then contact you with our additional requirements.

It’s a good idea to keep a record of your prize bond numbers in a safe place.

Lastly, note that Prize Bonds are not automatically added to any on-line account nor do that appear on the Annual Statement of State Savings Products. If you need a Statement of Holdings in Prize Bonds you must request this separately:

There is Bond tracker functionality on the state savings website.

Yes there is, but you must know your bond numbers to use this (i.e. have received your certificate), and you must add your bond numbers manually to your tracker account, they are not added automatically.

    2015 - 2020

    I've had about 6-7.

Mind you, it grew from 10k to 40k.

    Hi just few questions please.

    1) How easy is it to withdraw funds? I'd like to maybe buy a few prize bonds but may need to withdraw the money at (relatively) short notice, is this subject to terms and conditions?

    2) if I am buying as a gift (for minors) if they win can you collect money on there behalf? If buying as gifts

I'll probably only get 1,000 worth and see how I get on.

    Cheers

1,000 euro of prize bonds would win a prize on average every 14 years.

Okay, so you really need to have 5/6 figure sum in prize bonds? Substantial amounts?

How easy is it to withdraw do you know?

Doh! Haa thanks for the clarification ;)

I'd have to put a good bit in for a chance to win anything it seems...

Yes it seems like it. The minimum prize is €50, and there's an average 0.5% return per year, so you would need to have 10k invested just to win a €50 prize, on average each year.

I was looking into investing but I believe it's more for retirees with a lump sum that they don't want held in cash or equities.

There's a 90 day holding period at the beginning.

After that, you need to give 7 days notice, and then they repay you within 7 working days.

I know this because I was planning to lump my entire savings into the draw for this week's €1 million draw, but I left it too late - you can't buy them online initially, need to submit a paper application to setup registration.

Because of the fixed €5m or so per year which goes to big prizes, the return earned by all €50 winners works out at around 0.35%. They get around 99.5% of the prizes by number, but only around 70% of the prize money. So €100K can expect to win €350 in a year rather than €500 given average luck.

Not the €1 m but the €50 is very welcome!:)

    In April 2020, May 2020 and June 2020 I won 3 X €50, all from a €27K batch renewed in June 2018 (no wins from it Jan 2020 - Mar 2020). In all of 2019, I won 2 X €50 from that same batch, and from June 2018 to Dec 2018, I won 5 X €50 from that batch.

    Wins on 26th June 2020: €0
    Last win - 22nd May 2020: €50
    Weeks since last win: 5
€134k invested in prize bonds since July 2017
Win ratio: 19 wins in 156 weeks (12%)
    2017 (Jul-Dec): 5 x €50 = €250
    2018 (Jan-Dec): 4 x €50 = €200
    2019 (Jan-Dec): 5 x €50 = €250
    2020 (Jan-date): 5 x €50 = €250

Six months of the year gone and I have 8 wins. 2 each in Jan, Feb, March, 1 each in April and May. At the same stage in 2018 I had 6 wins, in 2019 it was 11. Both years finished up with 15. June 2018 4 wins, June 2019 4 wins, June 2020 no wins.

The tiny amounts everyone here owns out of the €3.8 billion fund are not enough to establish any regular pattern of wins. Having suffered a 26 week drought late 2017 early 2018, I am prepared for the possibility of no more wins this year. But every new draw stands independent of what happened in all previous draws, so I will wait and see.

Lucky day for Leitrim as well with 32 wins, more than usual. Longford got only 13. And especially lucky for a couple of people in Leitrim.

No €1m for me today, not even a €50. 12 wins so far this year, all €50. So a decrease from the 13 x €50 at the half way mark last year.
