Exactly what happened in March will probably never come to pass again barring utter catastrophe. There may be brief spikes as seen in some parts of Germany but it'll never be as all out balls to the wall as it was throughout April.

How do you know this pray tell?

The 7-day average is now as low as 11 cases per day.

    Is that a serious question?

Italy reporting 120 cases is the exact same as us reporting 10 cases. 12 times the population. Its called mathematics.

    3 more deaths RIP
    10 cases

10 cases.... careful though you'll be told yesterday was a weekend lag, today is a weekend lag, sure just wait until the end of the week.

Trends all downwards regardless even when you compare days of the week

Numbers look good at the moment.

Just looking at rte news, our frontline healthcare workers took a battering. Largest infection rate in the world.

Numbers are okay but only positive talk is allowed here. Anything negative, out with you. That's the tone of this whole thread.

If that comment is intended to be a dig at me then I agree the virus is subsiding here at present. Not to say though that it won`t spike again after the pubs reopen and flights resume particularly if people don`t follow the correct procedures.

    It’s not the same. It’s 120 people.

I think so. They said frontline healthcare workers so I’d say so.
They are investigating a further 2.5k to see how those healthcare workers caught it.

I'm not sure if I believe the claim that 5,000 health care workers are still suffering from COVID-19 when the official overall official figure for active cases is less than a thousand and is due for a downward revision. It makes me wonder about the second claim that Ireland has the highest rate of health care workers infected.
I seem to remember them dropping like flies in Italy in April, I think I heard of one here. I wonder if Miss Ní Sheaghda is inflating her figures?

As am I. 120 cases in Italy is an incredibly low daily figure. If my calculations are correct that is Italy's lowest daily case figure since the 25th of February.

I find that report very strange. I know we didn't get everything right, but I simply don't believe that headline. Something is wrong with those figures.

Is it a dig at you ? I don't know, numerous posters have said it before oh its a Monday oh its a Tuesday, doesn't matter when your compare week on week. I've no clue if your one who's been talking about lag

R number is 2.75, only a matter of time before the army have to transport coffins down O'Connell Street and Gerry "I worked in Africa" Killeen is our new overlord.

They breakdown the healthcare workers who got it.
Pretty abysmal and entirely predictable. I’m sure they were all grand or they are lying. Easier to explain that way. Also shows the no nosocomial infections was a load of rubbish. We were told to believe they contracted while at home.

The INMO said that up to the end of 8 May, 8,018 cases of infection of healthcare workers were reported, with healthcare workers making up a third of all positive Covid-19 positive cases in Ireland.

Nurses (2,591) and healthcare assistants (2,056) accounted for more than half of the 8,018 Covid-19 infections confirmed among healthcare workers, followed by other allied healthcare workers, (1,878), doctors (483), and porters (90), Ní Sheaghdha outlines in her opening statement to the committee.

The committee heard today that 88% of healthcare workers got the virus in a healthcare setting. Seven healthcare workers have died from the virus.

It is very low. It is also too many.

This time last year there were zero cases in Italy.

They are. Other countries don't count them as healthcare workers though.

I don't see RTE referencing the letter from '1000 academics and scientists ' anymore. Someone in the newsroom must have actually looked at who signed it apart from Gerry's signature.
