It has emerged that more than 1,000 people died every day in the UK for 22 consecutive days – in stark contrast with daily tolls announced by the government.

That certainly is a divergence. Sounds familiar.
Sir David King, the former government chief scientific adviser and chairman of the independent Sage group, said the gap between the Downing Street figures and the true toll was “an attempt to play down the adversity that the country was faced with”.

“They didn’t say we have to add on all these other numbers which would have been a more honest thing to say,” said King, who advised Tony Blair’s government on the foot and mouth disease epidemic.

Zero new cases in Northern Ireland today.

That is bloody wonderful, fair play to them.

UK 1295 cases. They're stuck around 1200-1300 new cases per day for a fortnight now. Ticking time bomb beside us once travel begins.

Is that all down to the muddled response at the start of the epidemic or are the UK population in general not taking Covid as seriously as we have?

Our figures are great, hopefully our adapted lifestyles will help us deal with whatever autumn throws at us.

Correct me if i’m wrong isn’t there travel between NI and the mainland UK? Doesn’t seem to have affected their 0 cases today.

NI must be doing a great job at ports. We'll have to look at that template.

Strange one alright. A lot of the UK mustn't be too bothered. All other European hotspots like Spain and Italy, their cases came down in a similar trend. UK so much slower.

Maybe people up North are smart not to go over to the UK?

I think what he means is that there's a lot of talk about people from England heading to the North.

There's no numbers available to outline how much of it is happening. Id say there's more travel between the North and the Republic

Either way it shows If borders are open to each other without quarantine it doesn’t mean there will be cross border spread.

Maybe people using common sense by SD and hand hygiene when travelling. That could help.

Dr. Tony Holohan, Chief Medical Officer, Department of Health, said:
Of the 22 confirmed cases we are reporting to you today, 9 of these were diagnosed in people under the age of 35. It is important for us all to remember that COVID-19 is a disease that can affect everyone, of any age or background. No one should feel that this is a disease that does not affect them.

Can somebody explain how they can come out with 22 cases a few minutes ago and follow it up with denotification of 16?

It's still an additional 22 new cases since yesterday. A Net +6 but 22 new cases nonetheless

    It's cases identified since yesterday's report 22.

Pervious cases denotified for reasons like double counting or miss-reporting.

How does someone double count with low numbers?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,645 ✭✭✭Micky 32

Cork has had 1 case in the last 7 days.

I think they really need to give numbers weekly. It tells the real story. Everytime there’s a increase in numbers from the day before it’s “ it’s all the house parties i tell ya!”

So there are 6 people who have tested positive for Covid over the last 24hours not 22?
