Yeah all the big supermarkets released numbers as to how many of their staff got covid. It was posted here.

Lidl gave figures of 11 ( recovered btw) out of a workforce of 4500.

That's not what I meant in my question. Has anyone actually picked this up from going into a shop? Shop assistants don't seem to be as badly affected here either but I'm basing that view on seeing the same shop assistants every week and none seem to have went out sick.
I think it's very low risk, because you are never really close to anyone for more than very brief periods. On top of that, such shops have enforced customer limits very well and we've been good with social distancing in those locations.

Simon Harris just said in the Dail that the r-number is estimated to be 0.7. Remarkably stable.

Very difficult to estimate R now with a low level of cases. Its going to rise to nearer 1 now as there's less cases to estimate it off.

We'd know if R was rising in a negative fashion for want of a better phase as all other indicators, hosptial admissions, cases etc would be rising.

Why did the Irish and British governments fail to ensure that the nursing homes had enough PPE?

End of May, Per Sunday Times, so if staff all day long aren't getting it, wouldn't be too worried about a casual shop:

Three big supermarket chains operating in Ireland have reported low levels of the coronavirus among staff, despite staying open throughout the pandemic.

Lidl said that, of 5,200 staff, 11 in Ireland and three in Northern Ireland had tested positive for Covid-19 — just 0.3% of its workforce on the island.

Aldi, another German supermarket chain, said 10 of its workforce of more than 4,000 had tested positive for Covid-19. Tesco, which has 13,000 staff in Ireland, declined to say how many had tested positive for the virus but said it was a “small number”.

Dunnes Stores did not respond. SuperValu said it had “a very limited number of cases” across its 223 stores in Ireland.

“Given the number of people we employ in Ireland — more than 13,000 — some of our colleagues will of course be affected by the virus, and a small number have tested positive for Covid-19,” said a Tesco statement.

Which is all the more bizarre that Govt now include supermarkets in their examples of where you should wear masks (though they say where you cannot distance sufficiently).

I think it's easier as a message just to say shops rather than shops except. Where you can't distance is the opt out for supermarkets although shops seem to be applying the same kinds of crowd control anyway. The only real difference is the time you might spend in other shops.

Why did the Irish and British governments fail to ensure that the nursing homes had enough PPE?
Firstly, many of them are privately managed and they can sort out their own PPE.

    Secondly there was a pandemic.

Thirdly, there was a huge shortage of PPE worldwide, and the PPE supplies we managed to get first of all went to the ICUs and first-responders where we thought they would be most needed.

8 cases, and we really don't plan on opening up parts of the country for another month.

At present- NPHET meeting tomorrow will provide some more thoughts on it. Indoor locations like gyms and pubs will stay at July 20 I reckon.

Would expect general hosptial numbers to drop below 60 in tonight's HSE report. ICU has been dropping quite steadily in the last few days

Those are great numbers : we have one of the absolute lowest new case totals anywhere in Europe this week

Got an email from my own gym there on Monday, they won't be open until Septmeber/October at earliest.

Trialling new measures in a bigger branch through September and based off that then they'll see about a gradual reopening late September maybe.

Might have to find myself a new gym if I'm waiting until October to go back

Probably with no evidence of any adverse change in case numbers 14 days into Phase 2.

The gov.ie roadmap page is basically saying TBC for rest of phases but think government might be reluctant to accelerate past phase 3 without forming new government for political accountability.

That should be possible just as Phase 3 starts. I reckon any other changes will be called in advance of that, maybe even this weekend.

wouldn't mind that too much, find that everyone always seems to go around the same time anyway, same faces each time I go in, usually around 7-9pm myself.

So long as the weather keeps nice through the summer I'll just keep my exercise to the park and the seafront but might have to look at a new gym after that.
