3 deaths/13 new cases. Another day of a handful of cases thankfully

No justification at all for the current slow pace of reopening and hysteria

A lot of businesses will feel very hard done by by not opening before 29th of June.

    Let alone 20th July.

    :D

Gerry Killeen is grabbing all the spotlight he can get.

Predicts full Croke park in 2024. Good one Gerry

"There is an alternative option, he argues – one that involves short-term pain for longer-term gain. “Elimination (of the virus in Ireland) is possible. We could get this down to zero and would then need to hold it at zero for a number of days. I’m optimistic that it would take two to four months to get there."

:D:D:D OMG Gerry OMG, casual another 2 - 4 months.

Ironic that the anti Gerry Killeen brigade who accuse him of grabbing the spotlight are usually the very same ones who are continually drawing attention to him due to posts such as this one. :pac:

SCs are open on Monday and we still need to work our way through these two weeks. It's the sensible approach. After that you may have your wish!

    Suggestions don't work.

What exactly, handwashing or mask wearing ?

One is no good without the other .
Although it's a struggle to believe that people aren't washing their hands at this stage .

The hand washing or wearing masks? :pac:

I think - if you want to wear a mask to feel extra safe - wear it. If you dont, dont.

At the end of the day the choice is down to the individual. We cant have 1 gardai for every citizen to police them

Ahh I can't believe we are both thinking the same thing here......time to take a break , lol

Today was the first day since this started that my frustration got the better of me (a little bit anyway). I've done my best to follow the rules as best I can, both in work and outside. But I think mentally I'm beginning to struggle a little. Decided to go a favourite shop of mine which I hadn't been to since this all started. Rounded the corner only to find a big long queue. Checked their website to find it was still operating a click and collect system. I totally realise I should have checked this first before traveling, but I just couldn't take it anymore and simply turned around and drove home. I'm a big advocate of trying to support local and shop local, as my wife works in a retail area too, but I dunno, something just snapped in me and I headed back home. I miss my friends from my pub big time too. The lack of social distancing outside the numerous Penney's infuriated me too.
Anyone else beginning to reach the end of their tether dealing with this "new normal"?

Meant to say intra-EU - indeed it does make sense although I had existing flights in early July cancelled (probably uncertainty and lack of demand).

Airlines running reduced schedules when they start up so bound to be a few cancellations still.

I know how you feel @ that in bold.

I was also following the rules, but after Leo's speech at 1st of May something just snapped at me, and in me. And I havent been the same since.

I think the most people have had moments of frustration and it's good to vent every so often. The mad queues will ease off after a while as there are more and more things to do. We'll deal with the new normal better once we can do more or less everything that is normal.

    No mask. Don't get in.

    Simple.

Point is a lot of posters here feel there is no risk from infection, therefore no need.
How do you feel about that?

There are plenty of other options open to shoppers and they can walk. I certainly wouldn't go back to a shop making such a unilateral decision.

Yeah, we are in a bloody recession, shops putting signs on their doors requiring customers to wear something is just asking for bankruptcy.

We really seem to have veered to polar extremes in this thread and that's unbalanced.

One teacher says he wants no social distancing when back and others saying teacher should be kitted out in full PPE.

As usual the ideal is somewhere in between. Personally I'm somebody who is utterly sick of this whole thing, all for getting back into the business of life and literally itching to get on a plane and off to somewhere warm asap.

But returning to school with social distancing and other measures all gone? Having the kids all over me and all over each other? I think that would be reckless especially as schools are crowded and noisy indoor environments.

I really hope that a common sense, middle of the road approach will be adopted. I certainly don't want to have to try to teach through a mask but I would like to see lots of hand sanitisers and some kind of workable social distancing of perhaps a metre. How doable it will all be remains to be seen and I haven't even thought that far ahead but this being cautious Ireland, there's no way we'll be as back to normal as we'd like come September. And you'll also have the prolockdown parents on our case if we teachers are not shining beacons of post lockdown Ireland.

Have to say that having read the posts I cannot see anyone in favour of teachers doing anymore than social distancing or wearing masks.
I would say most would be in favour of the measures you say but even 1 M is going to reduce class sizes and therefore class days by half .
I think your remark about parents is disingenuous and unnecessary really , as most people are thinking of protecting teachers in this as well as getting kids back to education.

    Indeed.

Soon (29th of June) all restrictions will be lifted and social distancing will be reduced to 1 metre.

This thread will be closed and me and Cork Boy will go to Brexit thread to continue on our arguing. Could even form our own thread. The "Law abiding citizen vs deranged regulations floater"

Exactly, amount of constructive anger I had to unleash was unreal.

I was naive enough to think that country will start opening up 5th of May.

In hindsight I was proven correct, as always.

Just saw the short segment by RTE with the absolutely lovely Granny Lynch seeing her newest great-grandchild through her window. There's 100 years and one day between them. Then she reads out a letter to him in which she really wishes she'll be able to cuddle him soon and she is very emotional at the end. A remarkable, lovely lady! I was in bits looking at it.

Reminds how the 'lives of others' curtain twitchers smeared those who went to the seaside during the fine spell (egged on by the media of course), everyone was an irresponsible drunkard and litter lout apparently!
I was on a crowded Dollymount beach one Sunday and I did not see one person drinking and there was no litter either on the beach.

Have to say because my skin is sore from wearing masks at work , I would not have been in favour of wearing them off work .
Except for public transport , or if indoors in a crowded shopping centre I don't see the rationale if social distancing rules apply.
Are they giving up on the 2 m distance , do you reckon?

And by the way , I do not think the virus is gone as some do , but manageable if we are careful.
