This shows an overall continuing decrease up to today (Although worryingly gradual)

    What you on about?
Overall the numbers are decreasing, largely because the cases in New York have dropped. But elsewhere in the country the numbers are slowly rising, particularly the South and West. Perhaps because they never really got hit so people aren't as inclined to take precautions.

Rumours of 29th June now alright. Guaranteed if you went to cut it they'd announce it a few weeks later..!

Believe it or not I`m not mad at all bud. I still feel though that it would be wise to wait until the beginning of next week and see if there is a continued steady decline in cases before we can safely conclude that this first wave is flatlining.

    8 more deaths RIP

8 new cases (so much for a 'resurgance')

I really hope that message doesn’t come back to haunt you at some point.
How can you be so confident there will be no resurgence?

I think it may have flat lined several weeks ago

Thread "headline" from 19 weeks ago today
Sorry if there is a thread already on this.

I just received a video of what is happening in wuhan - to say we are all going to die is an understatement!

I was thinking about all those videos, like the ones of people apparently dropping dead in the street. Since that doesnt seem to have happened anywhere else in the world, I think we can conclude that they were in fact wind ups. If it did, we would know about it!

The infection fatality rate (including undetected cases) is widely agreed to be 0.5-1%. We have a c. 7% CFR.

We are significantly under-detecting cases (as the UK is).

This has much greater significance post-lockdown as we're relying on test and trace to reduce transmission.

It was sarcasm. People predicted a resurgence today.

Jesus, we have gone from Covid was a cover up to it was a complete wind up.

I'll continue to focus on that bit in the middle, it used to be called reality.

Apart from Iran and New York and the increase in strokes/heart attacks in excess deaths in every hard hit country.

2 fatal heart attacks in my small community in the last month..

It was carried forward from a conversation last evening when some posters were really concerned that last night's 19 cases was the beginning of a resurgence.

Hmm, 14 out of 18 are healthcare workers. Looks like other 4 fall within the 0-4 and 85+ range (I am assuming there would be no healthcare workers in those age groups).

14 healthcare workers could also be old cases. It's common for the numbers of healthcare workers, clusters, cases associated with clusters to not equal the daily total.

Can I just be sure on something.

We have 4.9 million people in ireland...ish correct.
As of today, the confirmed cases of covid -19 were 25,238.00, testing over the last 3 months say.

Am I correct in saying as of today, .0051% of Ireland are infected yes?
or at least that we know of. a half of 1% of Ireland, have been reported as having covid 19 since march, many of whom have recovered because of the time which has lapsed.

before anyone starts saying, THAT we know of, Paul reid said of the 100% tested in the last two weeks!! 98% were negative.

I also know that restrictions had a huge impact of course but Jesus, they're all far from the great modern plague stories. we've been fed NO?

with the lockdown, Covid has "RAVAGED" ireland to the tune of.005% of the population, killing 1703 people.
It's taken the lives of .0003% of Irish people, almost 65% of which were in care homes and over 30% of which were front line workers
    many with underlying issues.

Of the infected 25,238 Covid cases, 1703 passed away, 6%..

Maths was never a love of mine but by jasus, that all reads crazy to me

in 2012, COPD and Pneumonia killed 2491..throw in heart attacks and you've got 4751 deaths.

I'd love to see if there's a huge drop in these deaths between the months of February and June or are they just being lumped into
death with Covid but BY heart Attack in persons otherwise having COPD, Pneumonia or heart disease.

    0.5% not .0051%.

For every million people 345 have died and the number of cases is probably much higher.

The vast majority of those 25,000 caught the virus (or a member of their household did) in the first three weeks of March. Look to the UK to see the difference a one week delay on restrictions made.

It is all down to the restrictions, without them by the end of April we would have been at half a million cases more than likely. Complete collapse of the health service and nothing to stop total infection.

If you think a bunch of neoliberal Tory boys like FG would have shut down the economy if there was any chance they could get away with it you're dreaming.
