I am confused. Almost everyone in Europe is on the verge of travel and vacation ready to go...RyanAir is practically shoving people into planes....but there are hundreds and hundreds of new cases every day in Germany, Italy, Ukraine etc. all over. In other countries its actively rising, in Eastern Europe etc. The virus is rising again after the restrictions are lifted. But I'm not seeing much news about it.

What's going on exactly. I just don't know who to ask or what to do in terms of travel later this summer.

Even Tony said on Monday he expects the numbers to go up from 9 but it’s still all part of a downward trend.
    Relax will ye.

    Correct!
Just because numbers raised by 2.1 times day on day does not mean the spread is growing.
More likely they just caught a small cluster that had been missed or did a few random tests in a meat factory.

Reminder too that the number of average contacts actually rose significantly Saturday and Sunday and then plummetted Monday. No doubt that some of them have their results today.

The virus is not rising again in Europe.

    Check your facts.

I am going by the New Cases stats here https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

So HIQA knew there was problems in 2018 sat on the NPHET committee but said nothing? What was Harris's excuse not to meet until weeks after a request for a meeting was made by NHI considering their clients were the most vulnerable in society? Nothing but ass covering going on.
One of the state run facilities was among the worst hit. 26 fatalities I believe.
It's all a grand game of fire the parcel at the nearest person and there is a bewildering array of players. One can fixate on finding a culprit or one can get a system in place that everyone in that sector must follow.

If you're referring to the Dundalk home, that's private and they got caught in a perfect storm of COVID-19, staff illness and absenteeism. They were taken over by a hospital group.

Denmark says easing lockdown has not caused increase in Covid-19 infections

    6/10/2020

Denmark, the first country in Europe to relax its coronavirus lockdown said on Wednesday that the spread of Covid-19 has not accelerated since it eased restrictions and began the second phase of reopening society last month.

"The level of contagion in society is still very low," the Danish health authority said in a report in Wednesday, according to Reuters news agency.

It added that the number of confirmed new infections had continued to fall despite more tests being carried out.

In April Denmark became the first country to reopen its schools and daycare centres and the following month bars and restaurants and shopping centres were allowed to resume business.

"There is no sign yet of noticeable changes in the extent of contagion despite the gradual reopening of society in April and early May," the report said.

I'm not sure why we haven't expanded our testing yet. 19,000 taken last week out of the 100k capacity. We really need to start testing workplaces, regions, nursing homes again, etc.

Agreed. Seems mad not to be using some of the capacity with random testing. Someone suggested that all childcare workers should be tested before they return to work and that makes sense to me.

East Asian countries are a completely different conversation because they have experienced pandemics in the recent past.

And now so have we, and we can emulate these East Asian countries in the future instead of emulating China's policy with its mixed results in terms of deaths and horrible destructive side-effects, and put lockdown behind us forever.

No deaths in Spain for 4th consecutive day in a row, it sounds a bit hard to believe since even small countries with very well controlled outbreaks like Ireland czech republic greece finland denmark etc are still reporting at least 1-4 deaths or so most days, while most countries of similar size to spain are still reporting dozens daily. But great news if true..

I'm finding it hard to believe Spain's numbers.

As for the USA all 50 states introduced restrictions.

So did Sweden, of a kind. But not all 50 States had what we call lockdowns.

Anyone know if they released an exact figure for recoveries tonight?
I'm finding it hard to believe Spain's numbers.

Theyre fiddling alright, apparently they'll only report deaths in the previous 24hrs now, but it usually takes >24hrs to notify them of a death so it'll always be very few or, more often than not, 0.. Not sure why

Out of 150 odd, so consistent with 1/3 trend throughout. Surely since there is a bit of breathing room now, they could introduce more measures to get that figure down even more.

When you see pictures of nurses in China, Italy, South Korea etc... they look like they are in spacesuits.

Here they seem to be in gowns with surgical masks or a respirator mask, plastic aprons like the dinner lady wears and maybe a face shield.

There has to be something seriously wrong with our PPE, to explain the terrible healthcare worker rate of infections.

Testing isn't a service that should be taken for granted or abused. It's costing hundreds of millions of euro. Laboratory staff were already stretched and understaffed without a national service thrown at them.

The virus is largely suppressed in the community. Testing anyone and everyone is a waste of resources.

There will be uproar and scancal when other services suffer to fund 'random testing'.

Would there plans to do random antibody testing next month work out cheeper.
Or have those plans been shelved
