Well, the die is cast now.

Hopefully things will continue to improve. I really hope they do.

    Time will be the judge.

Both have people in them for what might be a considerable period of time.

Sitting with different people, possible sharing food and untensils , waiters and chefs touching everything delivered to an entire room of people , people coming in to use a table another group were just at , etc. There's many valid reasons why seared restaurants are near the end of restriction easing phases

The WHO has finally changed its advice on masks.

Wonder will we see mandatory masks sometime next week?

The end of buffet dining in its current form for sure.

Good news regarding the number of new cases today and the government thinking it's safe to speed things up a bit regarding the re opening .

I'd be more confident of things continuing to go well if masks in shops and public transport was mandatory though .

But reading the restrictions thread just now it seems people still have their heads in cuckoo land about the virus , stupid talk regarding how a small country with under pressure hospitals already without this should reopen , it's actually scary reading alot of the posts .

Hopefully alot of these new posters who joined to post are just trolls and not what people out there could be genuinely thinking in their heads .

I really hope we can move forward but there's still cases every day. With people being infectious before showing symptoms and with more places opening up, that and no mask wearing, it's a recipe for disaster.

    Stay at home

They will probably report next week that masks make no difference

Are they still doom mongering about the second wave that no country has experienced

Some notable increases in daily cases in the US, the country headed for it's most new cases in one day since the beginning of May.

Florida, Michigan, Texas, Arizona, California and Georgia would appear to be the hotspots.

https://www.bbc.com/news/health-52945210 They are only saying that people be recommended to wear them, so what we are doing. They go further for older people, though I'm not fully up on terminology. By medical grade masks do they mean surgical masks which protect from the wearer ( doesn't make much sense to me why older people should wear these) or N95 respirators ( but good luck getting your hands on these)?

    Latest hospital figures released.

Hospitalisations down by 17 to 123.
Increase of 1 in ICU to 37 - ventilated cases up by 1 to 23. Suspected cases in ICU down from 13 to 10, with 7 suspected cases ventilated.
    https://www.hse.ie/eng/services/news/newsfeatures/covid19-updates/covid-19-daily-operations-update-20-00-5-june-2020.pdf

Thanks for posting ACitizen, only just seeing these now myself. As per my post last night I was hoping we would get under 130 it would be great and I said 120 would be excellent so very happy to see 123 tonight.

Although ICU has increased by 1 we've seen it be very stable now for the last week.

All together it's been a good week and a good day.

Throughout this I've taken myself onto boards each night to update the HSE report and join in the debate but tonight I took myself away and went over to a friends house where a few of us had a BBQ and a few drinks. The first night that has felt "normal" in a long time, everyone had a different mood and attitude tonight, one of hope and optimism and it was great to see.

Let's keep up the hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette we've suppressed this is the community let's keep it that way

We never look into them. The figure was 14 last sunday and we had 10 confirmed cases monday. It’s 6 total either way.

Yeah we looked at this last weekend and it just didn't add up.

I've been told by hospital staff it's the number of cases 8pm - 8pm but as it doesnt match up with the midnight to midnight reporting we get daily its difficult to tally

Doubt it, we don't have widespread transmission and who's going to enforce it ?

Antibody tests aren’t going to be available on demand (at this stage anyway). They’re going to to a targeted testing of 5,000 people in two geographic parts of the country to check the levels of prior exposure. Then repeat a couple of more times over the next year to see how things change.

That’s rubbish, they are commercially available in all travel vaccination clinics. I had one last week at a cost of €80 and less than a 2-day turnaround from bloods to result.

I'm all for following trusted public advice, but the jumps by the WHO, regardless of subject, don't do it any justice, it should be leading in advice, but it is nothing but a reactionary body.

In light of evolving evidence...wear masks where there is widespread transmission & physical distancing is difficult, such as on public transport....

what new evidence exactly? And I say that from a position of agreeing with masks on public transport (but not shops and walking outside etc). But they just move the goalposts a bit too often and I don't have faith in their statements anymore.

Didn't you advise people to listen to facebook groups rather than medical opinion?

Personally I thought PaddyGreen was a far superior parody account

Some notable increases in daily cases in the US, the country headed for it's most new cases in one day since the beginning of May.

Florida, Michigan, Texas, Arizona, California and Georgia would appear to be the hotspots.

Before you get too excited, at least 3 of those are explained by increased testing and in the case of Michigan a change in how they report cases added backdated probables to their total. Florida is actually reporting a drop in infection rates as more tests are done.

    For example, arizona
During Thursday's conference, Ducey and other health officials also addressed the rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in or state. The governor said it was not unexpected. "When you see an increase in testing, you will see an increase in cases," he said.

"As you test more, you are going to find more," added AZ Health Services Director Cara Christ.

Christ also says our state is well-equipped to deal with more cases. "We have a lot of ventilators and we are prepared, come what may to Arizona."

    Florida
While the state has seen its biggest daily gain in six weeks the past few days, the percentage of positive COVID-19 tests out of those reported in a single day has declined over the same time period, as the state provides testing to more people.

    Michigan
The numbers for coronavirus cases and deaths jumped significantly on Friday, but not because of a second wave or outbreak.

On Friday, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services presented a new version its website for coronavirus data, adding probable cases and death numbers to most of the statistics

I mean, with the protests there are definitely going to be hundreds of thousands of new cases there by the end of June.

Delighted to see some restrictions eased earlier than planned. Not sure who's in government at the moment but they handled this as well as they could from start to now in my unbiased opinion.

People seem to think the likes of leo should be an expert in everything in reality the government are just PR for experts, not just in health but everything.
