    Fair play to them

Bit of thinking outside the box and compliant with the governments plan

As I've said before, until all countries use the same criteria for counting cases/deaths then comparisons are meaningless. I'd rather guage our preformance on how our hospitals and icu's are coping.

The germans, spanish and french are testing more than us also. Also they included their nursing homes

It would be fantastic if business just ignored the restrictions and opened up. Fight back against these silly restrictions. At least give themselves a fighting chance. If enough were to do it the rest would follow. We have seen that already with the actions of the general public.

I think he is looking at the polls and thinking he has a chance to lead a new FG Government.

This is exactly what is happening. And you can be certain, if there is another election, he will be Taoiseach. Unfortunately, the people really analyzing Ireland's performance in this pandemic, are very much in the minority.

Ive heard on tonight show yesterday lad saying there wont be a 2nd election. Public will really not look kindly on that.

And to be honest, the whole voting/polls etc is unfeasible this year unless covid magically disappears. If not then voting will probably be sept/Oct/Nov in the flu months, Id say they are too lazy to figure out how people could vote in those months.

It is doubtful after investing so much capital in these talks. Even if we did go to the polls it would be September at the absolute earliest. To a large extent it wouldn't suit anyone except FG to have one.

What about Tesco, Dunnes, Marks etc not happy selling groceries and making windfall profits since lockdown, they all opened homeware clothing electrical departments without a word of protest from government.Tesco going as far as having a 50% clothes sale. with big queues forming..Brown Thomas are fully entitled to open as should all other clothing shops.Goose and Gander springs to mind.

All the shops need to grow a set of balls. I see homestore and more have most of the store shut off. Why? Just sell everything like tesco and aldi have been.

Well well, this isnt MOL, what dirt have pro lockdown people got on this guy?

Clarity on travel rules needed to help ‘reboot’ Irish tourism says airline chief Sean Doyle"

He should be more demanding though, get rid of quarantine in June altogether.

It wouldn't suit the country either, but the snail's pace of the current formation talks is eye opening to me. It's almost as if they want to ride out the crisis behind NPHET, and then come swooping in at the last minute like the saviours of all...
Except that's not going to happen...the NPHET plan is useless, is going to cost an astronomical amount of money that we cannot afford, and Brussels are only offering a paltry €1.9 billion unless we 'reform' other areas, e.g. Apple court ruling. We won't get magical bailouts from Brussels like many expect. The government and NPHET are eroding our international bargaining chips on a daily basis and leaving us in a desperately vulnerable position if this continues. How they can do this when the IMF and Troika bailout is still fresh in everyone's mind is beyond me.

No, just a suggestion where people seem to be obsessing too much - find a distraction.

It could also suit sf, they could run more candidates. It would suit fg most to have it now imo. They won the least seats of the 3 parties and all of this " arent fg a great bunch of lads resurgehce" justvwait fir the budget and years of austerity ahead. There will be a lot of anger down the line. When the great weather, e350 a week and the novelty are a distant memory

The impact on IRISH jobs in Clonmel will be evident from this

Bulmers maker losing €7m per month due to Covid restrictions

    https://www.independent.ie/business/world/bulmers-maker-losing-7m-per-month-due-to-covid-restrictions-39256180.html

Hope not to get any "you are a drunk you only care about getting them pints not public health" response here. I actually dont like Bulmers. Restrictions need to be lifted asap.

The thing about companies making losses - they can carry them forward and offset future profits. So you are looking at good few Irish companies paying 0 corporation tax before 2022....

just confused about the flights situation - ryanair said will be running most flights again from July.
Most people i've spoken to have essentially written off any summer holiday plans - would it be realistically
possible to do a normal family holiday to spain in august/sept?

The vast share of their revenue would be from the Magners brand in the UK, also a lot of the work is seasonal as well. I'd be a lot more concerned about the viability of SMEs and small pub owners, restauranteurs or anyone in the hospitality industry then I would C&C.

It certainly won't match the impact caused by closing the bottling plant in Borrisoleigh 4 years ago.

So can someone explain to me what constitutes a small shop as per the shambolic roadmap?
I understand Arnotts and BTs are splitting up the store someway to get around this tripe. Hope all stores do this. It’ll see the whole thing descend into an even bigger farce which is exactly what is needed right now.

So it's a fairly overcast and generally miserable day in Dublin city and the first day of no sun and some of the cafes and Delis that were operating as takeaways are letting people sit inside today and eat which wasn't supposed to be until phase 3. Most people called it and said it would happen and its pretty clear it's happening and will happen. What's the chances of them being closed or getting a slap on the wrist, slim I'd say.

Fair play to the businesses making a go of trying to get back on their feet

You get the sense that even the most Pro lockdown supporters are starting to clutch at whatever straws are remaining. Oh but the daily cases increased slightly... The 10 is probably an anomaly over the BH weekend... But they protested in Dublin... ICU might be down but suspected cases in hospital increased a small bit.

Even Tony has had to admit now that the curve is flattened (weeks ago), the illness is practically non existent in the community and there is no evidence that a 2nd wave will occur.

Don't even ask me how they are still reporting deaths from March as new deaths.

If we have another day with small numbers of new cases, the pressure will surely intensify to open up sooner than 2+ more months.

That's a very disgraceful opinion IMO..

I don't care- this is what happens when the Govt drive a wedge between the Public (none of whom lost their jobs) and Private sectors. Their roadmap is a shambles, I said that the instant it was released. The dates and restrictions are nonsensical. People don't just want to work for the money- there's a social and mental health side to keeping busy.
I absolutely support and empathise with anyone that has returned to work and as someone who didn't lose their jobs I'm not going to get on my high horse about them working cash in hand- the government created the whole situation around their dithering and hiding behind NPHET.

And it’s still only essential trips you’ll be allowed to do within those 20km. Bit of a joke

Are you sure about that? My local fishing club is open if you live within the 5km and 20Km from next week. Hardly essential. And beaches were thronged last week.

LOL, brilliant to hear. Hope they're all at it too. More that do this the "rules" collapse in on themselves. If you don't like then piss off and #stayathome

Anyone who really understands how the numbers work can see the trend is continuing to fall without doubt.

Anyone who understands how the numbers work will know they won’t be as low as 10 tonight ( i estimate between 30-50 tonight) because it was too much of a difference between previous numbers but it’s a clear indication how the averages are dropping. That seems to be the way results go in this country. You have to really go by the averages week by week and see the real picture, and THEY ARE dropping. The doomists and drama dwellers on here will just look at the one number and not what is behind them.

But tonight with higher numbers all you’ll see on this thread “ the second wave is coming” “ “ it’s all the house parties” “ it’s the beaches” “ no way phase 2 happening now” blah blah blah

You hit the nail on the head. Tonight there will be 50-100 new cases and the same tomorrow. The doom and gloom merchants will be out in force saying it's because of the restrictions in Phase 1, the government and Tony will say they're extremely worried. Phase 2 will be in doubt.

We'll get to Friday and the numbers will fall again and the government will announce we're moving to Phase 2 as if it's some sort of a favour they're doing us.

Yep, its very frustrating. Social media will be full of, "numbers increasing again" tonight even if we have 15 cases. Yesterday somebody actually said "10 too many"
