So 6 people under the age of 45 have died due to Covid-19 in Ireland?

Between 17 and 50 people. The ... means less than 5 and there are 11 of them, so it's 6+11, or up to 6+44.

EDIT: updated, there is a 5 on the chart, so ... means between 1 and 4

Between 18 and 54, if I did my sums right. The dots may represent a min of 1 up to a max of 4.

Spain has reported just 4 new deaths in the last 72 hours. How did they manage to get the number down so low so quickly compared with Italy, France and the rest of Europe?

How many people are currently infected in Ireland?

If the number of positive tests are in the order of 50 for the past week or so, and the R0 is of the order of 0.5, then working back how many people are tranmitting the virus? The 50 would indicate the 100 infected people gave them the virus, so after 14 days, then that would suggest that there are 1,400 infected people - in the whole country.

Now, more detailed statistical modelling is required, but that appears to be if they all got infected in the wild, instead of from known sources. I think, drilling down would suggest maybe 100 cases exist in the wild if that - out of a population of nearly 5 million.

If that is so, and the lock down continues, then some serious questions need to be asked and answered.

If the areas outside Dublin are released from restrictions, and Dublin continues with the 2 metre rule, and the other measures, then it cannot cause a huge rise in cases because there are few if any infected people there.

    Is this wrong?
My estimates are less than 1000 active cases
Yup I'd go along with this factoring in the recovered percentage given on Tuesday along with the 14 day period for active cases and low case numbers, 1000 or less

It is great news that we are where we are now. Hopefully some people will begin to release their self imposed lockdowns a bit and relax while maintaining some reasonable efforts such as social distancing where appropriate.

Yeh just it seems odd considering they were reporting 50-100 deaths daily every day last week, then suddenly 1-2 deaths the last 3 days. No other country has seen such a rapid decline in deaths, even Germany which is doing the best for any major country in Europe is still reporting 30-70 deaths daily still

Interesting report in the Guardian relating to Covid deaths in the UK:

Data since start of Covid-19 crisis shows almost 60,000 additional deaths, a fifth higher than usual

At its peak the UK death toll was more than double that of an average week, at 109%, compared with Spain’s peak in week 14 where the death toll was double the average at 100%.

By week 20 of 2020 the UK death toll - inclusive of both Covid-related and non-Covid deaths - was 21% higher than the average of recent years meaning, for every five deaths that occur in the UK in a normal year, six people have died this year to date.

    https://www.theguardian.com/world/ng-interactive/2020/may/29/excess-deaths-uk-has-one-highest-levels-europe

I have to admit to being surprised, while clearly a large number, I would have thought higher than 20%. Given the general view that the UK is a basket case in all this, it doesn't seem that high? I wonder if this replicates data in other countries.

Have you read the restrictions thread, the amount going on about how they are/will ignore social distancing and how it should be scrapped is funny or not depending on how you view them.
Sure it's mainly new or very old low post count resurrected posters being the majority along with a few of the usual regular political and anti dole etc posters.

Surely we would have seen some sort of bump given the loosening of restrictions by now? Some show symptoms after as little as 5 days.

Surely the roadmap cannot be justified in its present form, unless Leo and Holohan wish to fiddle while the country burns around them.

Think the weather is playing a big part.

People outside where transmission is low & the virus not lasting long on surfaces.

Even if they were so minded they couldn't just open everything up at once and there is a logic to the phased easing approach.

The continuing reducing daily case numbers is very positive.

4 weeks from the last bank holiday weekend when we had all the anecdotal stories about street parties, neighbours ignoring restrictions, D reg cards in other coastal counties and how we were f**ked etc etc.

Hopefully the trend continues through the phases.

I wouldnt say bump but a slow down in the regression of new cases, if there was a bump we wouldnt be relaxing restrictions

But we are in a good spot all the same. Trending downwards at this point in the way we are is excellent, let's hope we can hold at this level at least by this time next week and things will be looking great!
