Talk about "we can borrow at low rates". Why dont they just open up the country by end of June and avoid burdening young generation with debt.

We have been saddled with a political and bureaucratic class to which the concept of 'risk', any kind of risk, is anathema.

They would, quite literally, saddle us with billions of euros of unnecessary debt, in order to avoid a minuscule risk to their reputations.

This crisis has exposed the complete lack of leadership, responsibility and bravery that we have cultivated at the top of our society.

We will all pay for this dearly in the coming years and decades.

Yup was said a few weeks ago at cabinet that both the dept of social protection and dept of business would use up all their budget for the year within weeks.
This isn't sustainable and wont keep going when the €350 12 weeks is up in a months time.

Not good. Especially when EU's 500bn free money fund is faced with resistance from serious members

Unless we lose our status as a "richer" country. If we havent lost it already.

Excuse me for being a cynic, but everything we are doing is working assuming the numbers we are getting are accurate.

While that’s good and we are on course to be able to lift restrictions as outlined by the roadmap and possibly earlier the single biggest issue we have is that there are no travel bans in place by our government.

We allowed the spread become worse than NZ but we have almost the same
Geographical advantage they have if we enforce it.

There are countries that still have the worst to come and we need to put an immediate ban on travel for all people from those countries, (USA, Brazil, Peru, Chile possibly the UK)

What we really need to do is ban all travel - except essential medical travel from all counties and then lift restrictions on a country by county basis. That includes travel from or through any countries so passengers need to provide evidence of their entire journey before being allowed onto planes destined for Ireland.

All of this is pointless if we allow Americans to come here in August / September.

Travel bans arent as easy to implement as one may think, especially when we are part of EU.

The fact that any Tom Dick or Harry may have crossed NI border this morning without any checks already defeats the purpose of "keep cases and deaths to as low as possible". "eradicate the virus" etc etc.

Majority of what we are doing is absolutely pointless in terms of reducing cases etc. 37k people got tested for covid last week, out of 105k available tests. People either do not have symptoms or cant be bothered. We need to lift the restrictions asap and actually operate as a country on both economic and healthcare front (80% of hospitals are empty, ICU is at all time low capacity also)

Two ballrooms in Two different hotels with a fire licence for 250 people may have different ventilation, windows, configuration, bar size, toilet capacity, smoking areas, size, layout, air conditioning, kitchen facilities, waitstaff space etc etc and giving A blanket statement on everywhere is difficult.

Some schools may be able to open and others not for this same reason.

All the more reason to give early guideance so people know what they can or can't do

Reality is only instance where opening IKEA was a bad idea is if it wouldve resulted in overwhelming our hospitals and ICU.

That would have as much chance of happening as Arsenal winning champions league.

If they can social distance in three weeks time IKEA could do it on May 18th

Prob should have less queues with people restricted to 5km as oppossed to 20km on the 8th of June

IKEA and homeware stores was a major panic from the government

Doesn't bode well for the remainder of the plan

Interesting to hear the constant ads now on radio about “signing off Covid payment now you’re back to work!!”.

Based on current trends yes. If trends change we'll say something else. Our level of confidence in describing the progress of the disease has increased substantially since the early dark days of March. Our current trends tentatively hint that we may have a lot more open than is currently planned for. That said, it's yet again another important few weeks!
