According to our glorious leaders, a hardware shop that sells homeware can open, but a homeware shop that sells hardware cannot. How ****ing stupid is that?

I do agree with masks on public transport, as people are near each other for an extended period of time. So I don't want to sound anti mask - I just feel that it is dependent on the circumstances. And a quick trip for a pint of milk is ott imo.

Agree I'd only make it mandatory on public transport where you can be sat in close proximity to someone for an extended period. Massive oversight not putting importance in it imo.

If a person is the victim of an attack that involves spitting or the use of a syringe and is then given retroviral drugs to combat the threat of HIV infection, would those drugs, by default, also work against SARS CoV 2 (the official designation for the virus that causes Covid 19), given that it has a much lower fatality rate than HIV and, unlike HIV, eventually leaves the body if you survive it?

After all, the lower the fatality rate of a virus and the greater the chance of recovering from it, the easier it is to medically intervene against it, right?

I'd say it's a big deal for employees and owners of homewares shops, yes. Given that they would have been planning this for weeks, advertising their reopening and setting customer expectations, only for the Government/HSE to attempt to keep them shut last minute on a whim.

Look up buffs/bandanas. I have a few, they have multiple uses, and will now be great for face coverings too. Plenty for sale online too. No need for hospital grade masks.

    No and no.

The people being allergic to face masks seems a bit of a cop out to make it mandatory. Surely people can find a material they aren't allergic to and cover their faces that way?

Should 100% be mandatory on public transport.

At a minimum this kind of visored bucket hat that are being used for small children in Asia would help minimise transmissions from coughs and sneezes. They are available in adult sizes too.

Every time someone mentions C19 infecting animals we are told that its highly unlikely.

The reports in the press about meat packing plants say its nothing to do with the meat, its the close proximity of the workers.

A tiger tested positive in a zoo, how would be possibly catch it ? He was in isolation by being in a zoo ? His only external exposure was the meat he was fed. The official line is the animals caught it from an infected employee ? Tigers are cats, cats are one of the most common pets.

Now I read that new C19 vaccines are being tested on animals with promising results ?

I would love an expert to explain why we should be so complacent about animals and C19, when they seem to catch it from humans, and play a role in developing a vaccine, surely if they can catch it from us, and they can play a role in developing a human vaccine then they can infect humans or am I missing something ?

Probably not the best for using on public transport, where someone sitting right behind you could cough or sneeze and the droplets could get trapped between the visor and your face (Ewh!).

Anyone else hear the name of the hospital that fecked up yesterday? Few people I've spoken to are fairly convinced it's a certain private hospital in Dublin.

I think it has to be a private hospital where who knows especially if they had no covid ward like the public which would draw more attention to healthcare workers testing positive and a minority being hospitalised?

Italy reports 789 new cases of coronavirus and 242 new deaths.

Total of 223,885 cases and 31,610 deaths.

Yeah, I see he doesn't mention quarantine anywhere. If we get rid of it in this country and quarantine all incomers then it never gets back in. Simple stuff from somebody who is not a scientist or a medical professional.

I agree then add countries who get to zero and onwards.. to a no quareenteen agreement. So if we get to zero we could go to new zealand for hols...:-)
edit: a bit like the EU idea.

Looking at the roadmap, compared to say this week, cant see much change in the volume of people moving about round our way. Cant see any reason for any major increase in cases.

Looks like maybe phase 3 could result in a different vibe about the place, not for another 6 weeks though.

Yes, as I said in the post thats the official line, the bit I don't buy is animals can catch it from us, develop the virus in their lungs and get sick, but its unlikely that we can catch it from their virus laden breath ??? To me that seems illogical.

It might sound simple, but you can't quarantine all incomers.

The entire freight industry would collapse overnight if drivers, ferry crews and airline crew had to quarantine for 2 weeks every time they set foot here. This would mean no food or goods getting in or out of the country any more. We'd be destroyed in a week.

Then there's about 270 road crossings between the Republic and Northern Ireland (which, incidentally is more than on all other external EU borders combined). The security operation to police all of them in order to enforce quarantine would be phenomenal. Even the British army couldn't control all those roads during The Troubles.

It might be possible to require quarantine for a certain subset of incoming travellers, and the effectiveness of that is open to debate, but the notion that we can quarantine literally everyone that comes here, or "close borders" just because we're an island, is simply not feasible.

And people with facial skin disorders including healthcare workers. I have been using them but at the rate my skin was been damaged after an hours use... I would have none left in a couple if months. I counted 6 big chin sores 16 on my cheeks and 12 on my nose! I really feel for the doctors and nurses in Italy and Wuhan so I will continue looking. I like New homes photo of the visor though. I normaly dont wrap scarves around my face also. Have a problem with motor bike helmets also but not as bad( possibly air at that speed).
People with Copd or asthma may have issues at times also if they have to wear them for very long periods on public transport like kerry to dublin train etc.
Edit: Thanks Iguana for visor photo.

I really hope we hear about objectors to returning to work, although the media doesn't like reporting on "civil disobedience".

With the amount of people being put in unsafe situations, many will just say "no". The cases inevitably growing after the restrictions are lifted will lead to people leaving their jobs rather than risking their lives, in many cases.

    My boss has .........................................................................................

For example, ......................(not on a stable contract) was told to come in and ................................

I'm scheduled to be back on Monday .....................................................................................

What really gets me is .....................................................................................

I genuinely think part of it is .....................................

There's literally a mutiny brewing and I can't imagine ours is the only workplace like that.

Last thing as well is that we have no recreation ......................................

@the poster that posted this (I have removed text and name as suggested by other posters in case you fix yours and my quoting remains), I would advise you not to get into that level of detail about your circumstances. Not that everyone from everywhere is on boards, but if your boss happened to be, they could potentially identify you from the above as you've provided many personal attributes (detailed in original post). Just saying.

Missed the briefing, but from reading the guidance published of the department of health website, there is no mention of being allowed to only travel less than 5km to newly reopened businesses.

    https://www.gov.ie/en/publication/cf9b0d-new-public-health-measures-effective-now-to-prevent-further-spread-o/#retail-personal-and-commercial-activities

From 18 May 2020 you can also leave your home to avail of the expanded list of essential retail services as set out under the retail, personal services and commercial activities heading below.

Was talking to someone today who finds them very claustrophobic and will not be wearing one either.

So he's using Star Trek terminology and comparing his attempt to find a vaccine with dropping atomic bombs on Japan...
