This whole “children don’t spread disease”, what’s the scientific explanation for this revelation or is it based on the fact other Countries are opening up and some study in Australia suggests its grand.

How can a spike like today happen, how can a backlog happen in hospital not be reported. "Did we send in the record of all them postive cases, ah no I thought you did." Any other sector they would be fired on the spot.

It is a bit strange. I can’t help think that it’s not a coincidence with the publication of those letter. I think Paul Reid understands that it’s better to be straight with the public regarding short comings and working towards doing better. Saying we are going to do 100k tests might buy you a few days good press but when it transpires that there was no way to process those test the damage to credibility and trust is much greater.

Definition of metrics provides ample room for manoeuvre.

So you're saying that the CMO knew of these extra cases all along but decided to save them for a time when he wanted to 'bury bad news' (i.e. the release of a month-old letter)?

Increasing to 20kms would be a huge bonus for Monday

Agreed, would like the whole distance thing scrapped TBH.

It's not as if people are going to drive across the country and check into a hotel or go on the lash.

If people can drive a few K and social distance they can 100k and do the same.
Their are people that live a couple of hours from loved ones who would like to be able to see them in the flesh while social distancing. The people who would take the piss are doing it already anyway.

Not at all. But the misinterpretation is just being used to excuse flaunting the restrictions.

That’s not correct. The stay at home restriction remains in place, which means you should only go out for exercise (within 5k) or ESSENTIAL journeys (no limit).

All non essential journeys, of which a trip to a garden centre would be one, are to be avoided.

All per the document published last Friday week, so may change tomorrow.

It makes no sense to allow a sector to reopen, and then prevent the majority of the population from being able to access them.
I think or should I say hope it was an oversight

Who said i was flaunting restrictions? Give over ffs. I have played by the rules. Varradkar wasn’t exactly clear when he mentioned a 5km drive.

426 new cases today, ah fcuk it, I was beginning to think we might actually be good.

Like the shops, there would be no travel limit on garden centres, but you would be expected to go to the one nearest your home if possible.

The one nearest my home only has a few shrubs and bedding plants...what we actually need is at the one 15km away. And that’s where we will be going next week

If they allowed the majority of the population to access them, most of them would actually do it, at the same time.

If you read past the headline and see why its 426 then you'll see it's still good

There's a possibility no contact tracing has been done for these cases

This could be a real f*ck up depending on the date range of the unreported cases... If they're all a few weeks or a month old it'll probably be grand because anyone who wasn't contact traced will have either gotten or avoided the illness. But if any of the unreported cases occurred in the last two weeks, that could lead to some more cases that could've been avoided.

A real shame, and not what people needed to be hearing before we get some forward movement on Monday, especially the way they dropped the 426 number before adding the caveat five minutes later. The neighbours five doors down probably heard the swearing out of my kitchen when I saw 426

Oh reax! I didn't say YOU did. But you did misquote what Leo said. He was perfectly clear as it was in a single sentence directed to cocooners. Maybe it's you needs a break or look at the entirety of what he actually said.

Yet again! That was in reference solely to cocooners taking a 5km drive.

Dont believe so. Was worded as travel within 5km allowed for exercise purposes. Instead of just walking near the house, we have taken the children to the local woods, which is 3k away

It's the exact same for tennis clubs, golf clubs, angling etc.

Imagine if we hit 1000 cases in a day - the place would be in meltdown

If children don’t have as much of an immune response(symptoms), it is logical the virus is reproducing at a lower rate in their bodies, therefore they would be give off a lower viral load.

It's a national scandal at this stage. How Tony Holohan can keep a straight face in the press conferences is beyond me. 10 deaths with an average age over 80, half of them probably not even having the virus and the country shut down.
Hopefully people will see this for the joke it is. I wont be abiding by any of this nonsense from now on.

By the way i’m quite relaxed, you’re the one who appears to need the chill pill, going by your other posts.

Just because he aimed it at the cocooners doesn’t mean it’s not universal, he should have made it clear by the word ONLY.

Why should someone who lives 4.9km from a garden centre be permitted to go and someone 5.1km not?

Was always going to happen I'm afraid. Phase 1 will more than likely be put on hold now I'd say. Groups out acting the bo llox last couple of weeks with no f u cks given. Lack of masks and messaging of importance I put squarely at the door of government and people refusing to take responsibility.

    Hard luck. Old cases.

Why should someone who lives 4.9km from a garden centre be permitted to go and someone 5.1km not?

Because they have to give a distance in order to reduce the number of people coming into contact with each other.

There are theoretically more people living within 5.1km of a garden centre than 4.9km.

I agree. But the majority understanding is that this is the position. I had (wrongly it seems) been of the opinion that opening new retail operations pseudo included them in the 'ok to travel to' category. But the Gov website hasn't specified them in this way.

Why are garden centres allowed to open weeks before the cafés and restaurants? At the end of the day, which is there more demand for - to be able to have a meal or a cup of coffee in a restaurant or café or to be able to buy seeds for dandelions?

Is that not why there is the requirement for businesses to have social distancing measures to enforce this? A garden centre in Dublin night have 100k within 5k, one in Leitrim night have 10k
