I'd revoke the driving licences of idiots who don't realise that if you want to overtake a slower vehicle, you need to wait until there's no oncoming traffic.

A similar proportion of cars go around with no lights, one light or only their DLRs. I'd argue that in both cases (whether it's a poorly illuminated car or cyclist), anyone who fails to avoid hitting them should probably either have their eyes checked or learn to drive at a speed appropriate to their ability to react to hazards.

A bicycle is not a “vehicle” by any stretch of the imagination. It’s a toy, a hobby item but it is not a vehicle and in reality has no right to be on the road.

At age 65, anyone with a full driving licence must redo a driving test, then again at age 70, and from age 72 onwards, must redo a driving test every 2 years. Failure to pass any of these tests results in loss of licence until a subsequent test can be passed again.

Any crime that involved bodily harm, death by driving, serious robbery/theft (incl white collar) should get a year minimum in prison, no time off for good behaviour
No suspended sentences, or letting off because they are of good character.

And get rid of the court poor box. What has that got to do with the law?

Stop providing social housing in Dublin to those who don't work (but are capable), beggars can't be choosers.

Remove non-EU citizens from the housing list, if you want something work for it.

I think an assessment every 2 or 3 years after 65, akin to the one people need to do when returning to driving after a serious health issue would be more appropriate. First signoff on the re-application form is a GP or consultant, secondly the assessor. At the moment that particular driving test or assessment is carried out by the Irish Wheelchair Association, who have examiners throughout the country to assess people and their ability to get back driving following a serious illness.

In fairness, you’d see a whole lot less cars on the road if public transport was actually fit for purpose. The Luas sees the two lines interchangeable only at.....O Connell St. The Luas took almost 8 years from inception to the first scheduled departure.

In 2011 the Metro for Dublin was given the go ahead, as of now... 2027 is the expected operational date. From being rubber stamped to the first metro thats 16 fûcking years.

In the first part of 2019 Dublin bus were fined 165,000 euros for failing to meet punctuality targets. They were set low targets and failed to meet them.

As far as infrastructure projects are concerned, basic double-decker buses are an efficient and relatively inexpensive way of moving large numbers of people around. Or at least they would be if they weren't competing for road space with cars. With hardly any traffic on the roads at the moment, bus journeys that used to take two hours can now be done in less than an hour.

Most bus lanes in Dublin aren't fit for purpose. It's impossible to meet punctuality targets when buses are sitting behind private cars and are given zero priority over them.

Anyone that was long term unemployed but deemed to be medically fit to work, must send proof of a minimum 10 job applications per week to the social welfare office to indeed prove they are actually “job seeking” and continue same until they find work in order to receive payment.

Buses won’t take cars off the road. An integrated and effective, ‘citywide’ public transport will though. But the organization and implementation of such in the city is taking almost half a lifetime, literally...a couple of lines..

Right now, people have a choice between spending hours in traffic on a crowded bus or spending hours in traffic in their comfortable car. That's why buses aren't currently taking cars off the road. However, buses can do that if there are enough of them to prevent overcrowding, and if they're given total priority over cars. It doesn't matter how cosy your car is - if you see buses flying past while you're stuck in traffic, it soon becomes a no-brainer.

    I can’t count to 1, so I’ve got a wee bit of a list :D

    1. End lifetime tenancies for social housing; reviewed every two years, and if you’ve got too much space, you have no choice but to move into a smaller home. Anyone with two or more criminal convictions automatically lifetime barred from social housing (if you don’t want to make a meaningful contribution to society, you don’t get to benefit from it). If you live in social housing unless you’re retired, severely disabled or are caring for a severely disabled child, you must work at least 20 hours per week, either paid or voluntary (because I’m sick to death if my neighbours having parties 7 days a week and lying bed all day while I’m working). Priority on lists to essential workers, no right of refusal on location and no sale to tenants.

    2. Anyone claiming dole must either be in training, education or voluntary work after 12 weeks.

    3. Introduce noise control. If your neighbours are getting up to pay a mortgage and you’re sitting on your arse on the taxpayer, the taxpayer deserves a peaceful nights sleep

    4. Curfew for all children up to the age of 18.

    5. Compulsory education or training until 18

    6. Offer pre apprenticeship courses in school from 14(ish). Not everyone is booksmart but too many kids who would thrive in practical roles are being lost. A degree isn’t the only way to be successful.

    7. Three convictions, you serve the full sentence. With hard labour.

    8. Cap CEO pay. Yes, there’s skills, knowledge and behaviours that make CEOs etc successful, but I genuinely don’t believe that someone should be earning €23,000 a week when one of their employees are earning just €23,000 (or less!) a year. I’m paid ok, but I see too often people like porters, cleaners, etc get paid crap and the managers don’t even look them in the eye when they walk past.

    9. Offer people a paid sabbatical to be used as needed; maternity leave, study leave, travel, Family leave, whatever. Say a maximum of 18 months, not accessible until they’ve been working full time for ten years.

    10. Free childcare for workers. You get the same number of free hours as you work (couples, add both parents together, and divide by two). No free childcare if you’re unemployed. Offer extended hours, so those who dont work the standard M-F week can benefit too.

    11. Compulsory jail term for fraudulent accident claims

    12. Compulsory chemical castration for rapists and sex abusers.

    13. Offer genuine flexible working so if people want to work their hours over 4 days, they can. And stop excluding childfree people from flexible working.

    14. Remove the native ethnic wandering class from the minority list.

I doubt it could or would have the desired effect. People would just stockpile the previous couple of months... supermarkets would make a killing, pubs would take a battering. Also drinking at home especially with family on anything approaching regularity isn’t that healthy.

Fine. A year then :pac: I'll keep going til someone loses their mind :pac:

Rugby is gone to pot since the forwards got fit. Twas a way better game when there was 8 fat lads in the forwards chugging around at walking pace.

So no training for rugby forwards and if you are as a forward are looking any way fit then a straight red possibly shown even before the game starts.

Possible re-cindation of the red card if the forward downs a hape of beer before kickoff.

Switch the means testing for healthcare, if you are paying tax, you get the medical card. Those on the dole get nothing until they have a job.

    Stop the culture of entitlement

Reviewing the circumstances on social housing and ending "life tenancies" would help a lot in solving the social housing issue. So much of the stock is under utilised

Crush the car of anyone who doest know how to use the correct lane on a motorway, middle lane hoggers or those drivers who know exactly what turn off they're going to take but still insist on diving across 3 lanes of traffic at the last minute to take their exit.

I'd like the Govt to do 2 things:

    1. Make it legal for tenants to not pay rent and then destroy a landlords property to walk away without consequence.

    2. Give unlimited, unending dole to people who don't wish to go to work.

    Oh wait.....

Appropriate criminal justice rather than the "light-touch" applied by the courts, whether it's white collar crime or crimes against the person

No jail time for non-violent offences (with the exception of large scale fraud). There's no point in wasting the time and money for non-violent crimes like theft.

That being said, for any conviction, if jail time is not administered, the person has to pay a minimum fine of €1000 to cover the costs of the court.

And the fine increases with every conviction after that, up to a maximum of €10,000 per offence. They have a year to pay back anything less than €4,000, two years for €4-7,000, and three years for €7-10,000.

If they don't pay, take it at €100 per week from their social welfare, or their tax. If no attempt to pay back the money is made within the year, then take €150 a week from their social welfare or earnings.

Any children under the age of 14 committing a non-violent crime, the parents, who should be parenting them, will pay a fine of €200 for first offence, and €500 for every offence thereafter, or 100 hours community service must be completed during the summer months when the schools have closed. Once over the age of 14, the fines for any convictions would be held against their PPS number and administered when they turn 18, and would be taken from their social welfare or tax if not paid before then.

    Rugby lads have no skill?

If standing on a wobbly bar table when out of your skull on beer and cocaine, getting your lad out and managing to piss on a lad from 6 feet away and drown his back while not falling off the table isn't a skill, then I don't know what is.
