I wonder why the people who are wearing masks in order to prevent themselves from getting covid-19 are not also wearing goggles?

Also the amount of people I see wearing masks incorrectly is insane!

Saw 4 people today wearing masks but the mask was only covering their mouth. Is it that these people haven't a clue or what?

I am sure that they have seen plenty of photos of people wearing masks. Is it only a matter of time before we see this here?

I knew it. anti-Masks are the new tinfoil hats  !
    Corrected it there for ya.

Only a tinfoil hat can be anti-mask given all the available scientific, clinical and international best practice evidence.

    Fair play to them.
Hopefully they will sell them in lower quantities too.

For all this talk of the public wearing masks, I just want to give this information. Last night an elderly relative went to A&E with a non covid emergency. He tells me that only some of the nurses were wearing masks, and none of the porters! He was also left in an area where other patients were constantly passing him less than 2 meters away. He is over 70, so in a higher risk group. This is in one of the country’s major hospitals!

My Oh has just come home from our gp

She was wearing scrubs, mask and gloves.

He had to sanitise his hands entering and leaving and they provided him with a mask while he was there too

    Was quite reassuring

Most hospitals have 2 A/es covid and non covid. My dad went with non covid and everyone in masks as was he as he has cancer but it could be as it was non covid. Sibling works in a covid A/e full ppe all the way

Oh of course it was the non covid a&e, I’m still really shocked that every person there wasn’t masked. You’d think in a hospital it would be a no brainer?

They keep saying there are protocols around PPE use, so a non-COVID A&E wouldn't be expected to be like a biolab.

Eh given that asymptomatic spread is a very real risk well established at this stage any A+E should have mask protocols.

In the non covid wards in the hospital my sibling works in, they are not wearing masks just covid wards and staff are not allowed leave covid ward until end if shift

It's pure paddy bull, sorry hear that, sounds stressfull.

A policy change on masks came into effect on the 22nd or April. All HCW's were to be masked if within 2 meters of a patient. The nurses had to fight the HSE for weeks to get this change in policy.

One only has to talk to nurses to hear the truth. Porters tend to be HSE company men and doctors tend to protect their job so stay mouth shut. I know that's a generalisation, so yes exceptions expected.

It's been causing lots of friction, still hearing reports of it not being implented consistently, obviously supply is some of the issue.

Prior to that nurses were lucky to get masks and lucky to be allowed to wear masks as once again their are multiple reports of HSE heads going around telling nurses to take them off.

    RTE radio :

The General Secretary of the Irish Nurses and Midwifes Organisation Phil Ni Sheaghdha talks about the new guidance for healthcare workers on the wearing of mask.

They're ignoring the WHO, the ECDC and every single health authority in the civilised world if they are saying asymptomatic spread is not a very real risk. This has been known since February and suspected in China by the New Year and is one of the sure things we know about this particular virus.

I voted No I will wait for HSE to recommend. As I live in the country and have very little interaction with people and tend not to go out much these days. When I do go out I have a neck tube or bandana...for now. If I had to go to a big town or area when I know people will be about then I certainly would give it plenty though. As it stands I would not buy face masks when I know professional folks and others may have a greater need.

It's not his advice, it's actually the HSE's
Surgical masks should be worn by healthcare workers when providing care to
service users within 2 metres of a service user, regardless of the COVID-19
    status of the service user.

So looks like they will be at least suggesting staff wear masks.

Any update on masks/face coverings yet? Not that but would make a difference. If it's anything like social distancing, it will all be ignored in a few weeks time anyways.

A good guide to the various masks and what protection they offer

I've still yet to buy or order any but I wouldn't be entering anywhere like Supermarkets etc without one for the next 6 months. I've been getting everything delivered to home since this started

These type of comments are doing my head in. Masks are for sale in lots of places. I got a supply from China. In Spain they are handing them out to people on the street. Most European countries have them. They are available.

The Irish Government cannot get it's act together on anything. Because this government seems incapable of locating a stock we are now being told by Shane Ross to wear "face coverings". They cannot even bring themselves to use the word face masks, because they will look like the fools they are, for not having any.

They cannot even get the testing right, the results delivered in a timely fashion, the tracing....now today we find that they cannot come up with a plan for child minding for health care workers.

They talk the talk but don't walk the walk.
