    19,470 recoveries so far

Does taking this from current number of confirmed cases give the number of people who currently have a confirmed case of covid19, I wonder? Or is that not necessarily the case?

23401 confirmed cases - 19470 recoveries - 1497 deaths = approximately 2,434 active cases if my calculations are correct

George Lee says that evidence from Sars 1 and MERS (cousins to this virus) there is some immunity but it doesn't last forever. About 2 years for Sars 1 and 3 years for mers.

That is a little bit of good news today. More good news are the lower case numbers today. Hopefully it continues to go down.

Had Hope's for lower case numbers but the war wont be won in a few days

Just look at 5 day averages for more comfort and the case definition was broadened most of us expected a mini spike that didn't happen.

    159 new cases?

Wonder will this burn out in two weeks time like that man said? I'm confused with the low numbers.

Why are you so confused? You know we had a restrictions with people meeting meaning less chance of contact so less cases

Current performance testing not expected to influence the decision to ease restrictions.

That's very good, hopefully none of them have been left with long term damage to their lungs and kidneys.

Thanks, good to know. Guess this will slowly start to go down with reduced number of cases.

Not sure what's confusing about the numbers. The fact that there's a lockdown and mass social distancing going on, I'd hazard a really really wild guess as to that's why they're low.

Why are you confused? The r- o is at level whereby community transmission is very low at this stage, most of these cases are from nursing homes. It would appear it has been largely brought under control in that setting too.

That is good. I always thought immunity might only be a few months if there was any.

I presume most that get long term damage were the ones that were in serious or critical condition with the virus.

Leo doesn't want us to be the last European country to reopen schools.

Does Leo see this as some kind of competition?

Leo is totally oblivious to how a viral infections can spread, maybe he should read what is happening in New York.
About 100 children in N.Y. are suspected of having a rare illness tied to the virus.

New York State health officials are investigating about 100 cases of a rare and dangerous inflammatory syndrome that afflicts children and appears to be connected to the coronavirus, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said on Tuesday.

Lower deaths than any day in recent memory, but there are more cases than yesterday. I know the average over the past few days is still trending downwards, but the confirmed cases yesterday were 107, 159 today.

ICU numbers are dropping, that and hospital admissions are all I've been looking at for a while now.

Considering there were 110 or so in ICU when Leo gave his extension speech you can sort of see where they were coming from in saying the numbers weren't where they needed to be. Surely we're close to that point now however.

Theres no point looking at day to day variances

Not a huge difference, it represents only a 0.68% increase on the overall total

So far the news and the situation with animals getting the covid19, is small.

The Facebook group I'm on that's for covid19, there's a thread about pets. The news that we have so far about the animals, that's not isolated cases. People on the group with covid19 and their pets have experienced sickness along with the family. People aren't taking their pets to the vets so we aren't getting a true picture of the situation on animals. I can understand why they are not taking their pets to the vets, I don't think it's neglect, it's more of a position where they can't due to being sick themselves.

One person of many who posted there said that the first member of the family to get symptoms was their cat who was sneezing. Hard to say what that situation is exactly. If members of the family came down with the virus first and passed it onto the cat and it was the cat who was first to show symptoms.

If anyone wants the name of the group, PM me and I will share it, if you want to have a read of things yourself.

This has to be a wind up? :pac:

I would not worry 2 much about cases as will go up when restrictions are eased. Deaths, ICU admission are the real concerns

Think then it would be useful to know how many test results were provided in that 24 hour period. And per cent of positive cases. I guess when confirmed case numbers per day are relatively low, there could be a bit of an uptick day to day.

Seems like there are a lot of people looking at the numbers every day and expecting them (deaths and infections) to get closer and closer to zero. That is not going to happen. We are relaxing restrictions now and there is a good chance that they stabilise here or maybe deteriorate. As we continue to relax more and more, and schools go back etc. we will probably run with a a pretty steady level of infections. I Think that some people need to manage their expectations here

You know more obviously but there are multiple studies that show children are far less infectious, hence far safer

Day to day variations will be large also, 7 day average is what to look at

Some interesting reflections, especially on the challenges in the care home sector.
