UK death toll now approaching 40,000

Almost 15% of global covid deaths, Uk makes up less than 1% of the world population. Pretty shocking
Wait till Russia starts to catch up. We might be at the beginning of the end in Europe, but some other regions are only getting started.

They mightn't in Russia - there are only 16% over 65.

Article from George Lee relating to Sweden, how they are doing worse than us, and how they might do better in a 'second wave'.

Disclosure - I have not satisfied myself as to the ability of George to write this article or whether he is correct, incorrect, or partially correct. :)

Maybe not. I'm on a Facebook group for the monthly problems and so many people has experienced their periods stopping. Its uncanny. So many people not even menopause age and their periods have changed or stopped. Late periods, no periods, etc. Me including.
The first thing many women will probably do is buy a pregnancy test.

I read an article online saying its probably down to stress.

I really don't think I feel stress with this pandemic. If anything, life has calmed down and it was needed and I've given my finger to the rat race that was previous to all this.

The Independent is saying possibly even more than that. The powers that be seem to be intent on muddying the waters as much as possible to avoid the truth, you see figures with hospital deaths only, figures for England only, England and Wales only and so on. Two weeks ago they added three and a half thousand care home deaths into the figures though many reports were suggesting a much higher figure.

Yeah, they reporting 50,000 over the last 2.5 months. Some could be people dying from unrecorded Covid infection. Some could possibly be from heart attacks/strokes that were left untreated/treated too late due to virus fears/overcrowded hospitals. I saw a news video from NYC a few weeks ago about a large increase in heart attacks deaths during the crisis.

Here's a piece, just a bit self-promoting, on a current data gathering and predictive app.

Those prices are disgraceful 33 euro for a face covering made from maybe a quarter of a metre of fabric at most?

The no sew masks that was demonstrated last night on the Claire Byrne show were ridiculous. They were so thick with all the folds of fabric, the pair of them, Claire and the other lady, would have been better off smothering themselves with pillows.

I wonder how that guy in the nightclub supposedly gave it to 101. Would he have been going around coughing in peoples faces. I wonder how the main transmission was there.

He didn't give it to them all on his own. He gave it to a few who subsequently passed it on themselves.

that makes more sense, perhaps the body stops the possibility of pregnancy in times of extreme stress, honestly a I read a post somewhere that said people had been reading about pregnancy test type tests were going to be using to test for covid and people had somehow misread it and started buying pregnancy tests to test for covid. Your explanation makes more sense.

UK reports 425 new hospital deaths.

Some media calling it a "dramatic increase" but that's only because the media trumpet weekend/bank holiday figures which are always lower for obvious reasons.

    (9 new deaths in NI)

Offices may never return to normal .... sigh...

even the most pessimistic views , in 3 years time this shouldn't be an issue anymore with most of the world vaccinated or with herd immunity kicked in.

Why wouldn't they return to normal ?
    future pandemics ? - a roughly once a century event ??

I remember after 9/11 people were saying the age of the tall building is OVER , and they will start building huge structures underground instead - people seem to be very short sighted during a crisis - and yes I include myself here...

Bryan Adams has made an expletive-filled attack on Chinese people

on his Instagram page, the Canadian singer wrote:

My message to them ‘thanks a f**king lot’

    On Sweden.

It is very low down on the testing per million - 14.7k /million. About 60th in the world.

It is very high on deaths per million - 322 per million. 7th in the world.

I think those two statistics move Sweden into a 'do not copy' league.

Also, they do have a limited lock down - it is not business as usual.

To be fair many of us have uttered words to that sentiment and he's right too. They, in China, got into bed with bats and ate them.

It's somewhat unclear. Some outdoor tourism and public amenities will reopen but from what I can gather, people are still being encouraged not to sunbathe and they should keep moving when out in the open. They don't want a scenario where people congregate in one area for hours and don't move (even if they maintain social distancing).

I think the new limit next week is 20km, not 5km.

Is it any surprise that the countries under the leadership of Trump, Bojo and Bolsanaro are well on their way to be the worst affected nations in the entire world, by a very large margin

Maybe in future elections people wont choose charicatures to lead their countries and actually seek competency as a skill for the role

A number of businesses are finding that staff enjoy working from home, and they are not seeing any productivity differences. If you're a CFO seeing this, it would make sense to seriously consider whether you need to have all the office space you currently have.

I don't expect offices to go back before 2021 realistically. It's going to be difficult to ask all your staff to get back on public transport/queue in traffic when they have become accustomed to working from home. I think the workplace of the future is going to be primarily remote, or possibly hybrid at best. Companies with everyone working in an office will be seen as dinosaurs.
