Just received am email from the HR and Commerical Manager tonight, well all the staff did, congratulating us and the Irish people for beating Covid 19 and that they look forward to another busy season.

Lol..... FML.... Only one thing to do now - going to watch Archer on dvd.

I work in a hotel and they sent out an email saying they hope to open on the 18th. What planet are they on?

Not sure I think its just aesthetically pleasing, the older stuff that I would be more familiar with was grey smoke glass.

I'd be curious what part of the roadmap document do they think allows them to do that. Daft!

    Different states have different ro,
The total ro released daily is for the whole country.
Different states have different measures in place.

The perspex is there to prevent dust from getting into the instrument and damaging the probes.

It has to be clear to see how the probes operate if there is a problem or it has to be troubleshooted.

It's blue to prevent sunlight from interfering with the sensors. Sensors detect when samples are entering and leaving the module so it doesnt take in too many samples at a time.

We open tomorrow the 13th. They (my tourism site) are on Planet "revenue loss and look at me I am a manager worth keeping on in a very top heavy management organisation".

A guy went barhopping in South Korea and spread it to 79 people. For that district for that weekend the Ro was 79.

I have been waiting for the serology tests, and it seems anything from 10 to 20 % in big cities like NY or London?

The national attack rate seems like 3.5% maybe?

That still leaves a lot of fuel, I've heard maybe 70
% to get to peak/herd immunity levels, which makes me think that there will be many waves to this thing.

I understand its very hard for people with businesses to run but your employer sounds like a prick and someone dangerous who would probably gladly allow sick colleagues into work potentially spreading this virus. You're going to have to report your employer to the authorities when she pulls this stunt of opening early. My understanding is that the health and safety authorities have the power to close businesses that's not following social distancing measures and other guidelines.

    You are somewhat correct

That cover is just there as the probes are moving in that area and any obstruction would cause damage its just so you can see the operation, its not really that well sealed to prevent dust and its not even alarmed you can lift it in operation and it wont stop. I have seen them running in operation with covers open and there is not even a door cheat needed.

I'd imagine it's to filter UV light which will damage the samples.

Edit: I should have read on :pac:

    @Mandrake
It depends on the module and the function as well.
If you opened an ISE, c702 or e801 during operation it would stop. Only our e602s will operate with the cover open if needed.
Covers can be opened during maintenance functions.

Yeah thats right the 602 doesnt even need a cover to run, its not really that hazardous the others would be more hazardous to put your hand into especially the 702 as its going so fast. Engineers can run them open by using a door cheat.

@sippy nah all Roche instruments now has blue perspex and white covers, its the just the theme they seem to use. It used to be Grey/smoke when it was badged by Hitachi. There's no UV or sunlight considerations if it was the covers would be solid, it just kinda looks good I guess.

I heard Cillian de Gascun chatting on the Radio yesterday and I think he mentioned something like expects current levels at the most 5%, so there's a tad bit left in the tank.

When when consider 5% of population is 250,000

Apologies for the slow response Owl. Absorbed in Archer and I have the day off today.

The thing about all of this is that people are getting lax and, in my opinion, dangerously so. For example, today one of my coworkers was in and they are known to suffer from hayfever or fits of sneezing/runny nose when the pollen count is high on summer days. Also, a far few farmers doing their first cut this week here. Now my coworker is in with 8 of us today and sneezing like a motherf#*ker all the time and the 3 managers on site don't say a word since they hide in the offices and would not let him leave because we are preparing to open the site so experiences oermanent employees are pressured to get things in order. Warm day here and he wore an ordinary dust mask and he did his best. However, we have no sanitizing practices or protocol in place for even the basics like door handles, equipment or surfaces. I am seriously anxious about dealing with the public and the lack of concern the managers have for all of this and they had/have adequate time to write up operating procedures for the safety of both the staff and the visitors.

This reply and the point of what I am about to say will be drowned out in the coming day(s) on this thread but I know for a fact that several other popular tourism sites along the Wild Atlantic Way are opening this week and they have similar (if not worse) practices that do not ensure employee or visitor safety.

8 years I have been doing this job, I am not a pessimist by nature but I take it seriously and do want a swift reopening but there is a general attitude of putting the cart before the horse and hope for the best.

and it is not a him, it is a her (or a couple of "her"s) and that isn't to say women can't be great managers as the best managers I have had were women but these bunch hide in the offices and when they do come out they have meltdowns over the most ridiculous of things. Sorry to go off topic, just wanted to clarify that in case anyone thinks I am a sexist dinosaur.

On the radio today during an interview it was definitely said turn around was 2.5 days but the problem lay in that some department areas relay of information was still done by snail-mail rather than a click of a button.
Hard to believe in this day and age
Not really - there are a lot of admin staff whose positions should be largely obsolete with the introduction of technology that has been available for over 20 years. The system indoctrinates people, rather than move with the times things are done the way they have always been done.

I'm not by any means a medical expert but I dont think that is how the R0 is calculated....

I would be pretty sure that he didnt infect all 79...many of those infected would have been second or third hand infections which originated from him.if he infected 5 who then infected 4 each who then infected 3 more would be 60...he surely wouldn't have had time to be a close contact of all the other 78!

Interestingly though it highlights the efficiency and speed of the Korean test and trace and also how quickly a new spike in infections can occur

Also gives us an idea on what kind of a testing systems/infrastructure is needed, if you can't trace all contacts then it's going to be hard to control new infections.

How do you know this place isnt opening with all government mandated measures in place? Lets not jump to calling people pricks and asking them to be reported. People have to make a living too. We cant lock the country down for the next year or two unless we are happy going back to being a third world country. Essential businesses have been open throughout this whole thing by the way, and in a safe manner.

She's promoting the Swedish model, should have been no restrictions... virus not all it's cracked up to be ... yah, will kill some old people but otherwise no big deal ... and you can cure it anyway with hydroxychloroquine. And had it herself in Jan AND Feb so it's no big deal. [Does this mean she was patient zero in Ireland?]

She's dangerous as she sounds so convincing and talks up her experience so making it easy to pull the wool over YOUR eyes.

First of all why don't you listen to her opinion.

Is this the same person who said if you take vitamins you will be immune? Also recall her saying if you were immune to SARS you were immune to COVID.

Shes a crackpot. A crackpot with a phd, but a crackpot nonetheless.
