With 236 cases new cases today and nursing home testing completed, surely this is now due to the barriers for testing being removed. If so 236 isn't an awful lot seeing as they said today the labs can do 15,000 a day now if required.

Have you a source for the story or is it just anecdotal?

It was on BBC website a few weeks ago.

Good that the deaths are low though

As I said you are all about yourself and it's pretty evident here.

Childish? I picked you up on the fact that while I accept everyone thinks their view is rational you believe only your view is rational. You accused me of being all about me when I tried to point out that different types of people have different risk tolerances. (My views being most rational of course ;) ):

You don't even explain what you don't like me about the plan I put up.

I don't necessarily disagree or agree that much with you. I'm not too worried about your concerns on the need to impose "state quarantine" immediately on anyone coming into this country. They haven't done it yet, the numbers are small, and community transmission is practically zero regardless.

I don't agree with your view that we need to make it law to wear facemasks in urban areas, when shopping etc. Out in the open there is no need, unless you are going to be spat and wheezed on by rabid joggers (and I accept there are a few out there :) )

I have no issue with your view that we stay in our semi-lockdown state until mid-June, but I am more on the side of taking measures to protect elderly and vulnerable while letting most people get back to work whilst adopting whatever measures can reasonably be taken. I don't actually agree with you, much as I'd like to, that we will get to "no virus".

after what I've seen since this thing broke out I know I could do a better job than the current leaders of government in this country.

Govt is being largely advised by professional medical personnel, and regardless of its being potentially slow off the mark, has achieved zero community transmission, and brought the health service to a position where it can cope. That was the goal - flattening the curve. What Govt has done has now allowed phasing out of lockdown with potential claw back if necessary.

Good to see the daily deaths continuing to reduce.

Whilst not huge its disappointing to see the new case numbers rise for the 3rd consecutive day, long time since that happened.

So you read of a case in the UK and conclude the lady caught the virus from packaging or mail?
+1 She might have caught it from surface contact on packaging but more likely and I'd bet the farm there's something missing from that story. More direct contact with it from someone.

That may well be a result of improved/increased testing. Which would be good news itself.

The weekend stats are pretty worthless even if they are dropping. The rolling 5 day tally is a better measurement.

Also expect Germany to U turn on current lightening of restrictions, the R rate appears to have edged back above 1.0

Meat plants, direct provision centres, travellers, Roma, family transmission?

Targeted testing is now being done in meat plants and it apparently is planned to test everyone in affected direct provision centres from this week on

Positive rates amongst travellers and Roma who've been tested are 48 and 53%

I would expect the lady (if true) was not entirely cocooning and having visitors ,I wonder was the daughter tested.

Yep because we all know more people have it than comfirmed cases. If we knew exactly how many cases that are really out there you would see a decline every day. I don’t focus too much on the reported new cases, i look at hospital admissions and ICU moreso.

Germany are not overly concerned as of yet, there rise in numbers are all connected with meat processing plants and nursing homes and are also connected to know clusters.
The daily r rate is fluctuating daily
    German media reporting.

Another reason why face masks probably will never be mandatory, regardless of the fetish level ;) of parts of the population for them:

    From RTE (about Germany) :

Thousands of people took to streets in cities nationwide at the weekend to protest against the remaining restrictions, such as wearing a mask on public transport and limiting social contacts.

Tensions rose at a rally in Berlin yesterday, where hundreds of protesters chanted "Freedom, Freedom" and some threw bottles at police. Several dozen people were taken into custody.

In Munich, where some 3,000 protesters gathered yesterday, police criticised participants for not sticking to social distancing rules.

The demos, which have grown larger in recent weeks, have mostly attracted a mix of far-right and far-left sympathisers.

But they are increasingly becoming more mainstream.

Boris Johnson is allegedly going to recommend face masks/coverings be worn on public transport, in shops and office as part of his announcement tonight

I imagine we'll get the same this week

Reporting of deaths always takes a dip over the weekend, I wouldn't put much stock in that figure.

The deaths are dropping anyway as we have seen during the week so that’s the important thing. At least we can’t use the weekend excuse for that.

I can't really see the harm in making face coverings mandatory. What's the downside? Can only lead to good things surely

Like Trump said the virus will go away without a vaccine...the reality is most of the world has already probably been infected and giving people a vaccine which has been created in a few months is going to do more harm than good... and we dont know the long term effects of these vaccines anyway...

While it's 12 deaths too many it's the lowest in a long time and to be welcomed. I'd be a little concerned by 235 new cases even if it is down to increased testing. NPHET will be making it's recommendations in 5 days time and that figure needs to be a lot lower but then again day on day over the last two weeks I see more and more activity when I take my daily walk. The road I live on is in a semi rural area on the edge of Cork City, it's always busy and impossible to cross but the footpath is on the other side until mid March it was pretty common to have to wait at least three or four minutes to get a chance to cross to the footpath but from then til about a week or so ago there was no wait involved, that's all changed, it's now back to it's normal busy level. Got stopped twice by the a Gardai yesterday while doing our weekly shop, one of the queues was really long but every single car was waved on. The softly softly approach clearly doesn't work for some, saw lots of gangs of teens out and about, no one gets told to go home or to break up. Little changed last Monday when it came to recommendations and if we are still seeing over 200 new cases by Wednesday or Thursday any relaxation may get pushed down the road, all because some people won't do what is asked of them.

Seeing as the first part of your statement is bullsh1t, I won't bother with the rest.

4 million notified cases. Lets assume its wrong by a factor of 10, or even 100 foe the craic. That would make 400 million cases in a world of 7.5 Billion.

"Most of the world" my left nut. Herd immunity remains a myth, there is no solid science behind the antibody situation or whether you can be reinfected. We won't know for years, which is the whole problem.

Trump and people like him are only looking for a quick and easy fix, too stupid to realise the depth of the problem with this thing.

    1. How will it go away without a vaccine? (Any time soon)
    2. How did you decide most of the world has been infected?
    3. How do you think a vaccine will do more harm than good?
