Yes same problem with boards.ie here especially on mobile even on WIFI.

Airwire has been just fine for me since that fault was fixed on the 15th of last month.
But at the same time if my download speed was to drop from 150m to 100 I probably won't notice.

Yes ...... using Boards now without any slowness.

Other sites I regularly use OK also.

Boards improved for me considerably after I logged out, deleted the boards cookies and then logged back in.

Yeah boards has been OK for me. I switched to Firefox and it was grand.

Not getting great speeds on speedtests for awhile now though hardwired in.

As I stated before, if you have issues like that, please contact support.

Also, when you say you're not getting great speeds ? What speeds exactly are you getting, when you test using Firefox to the Galway speedtest.net server ? What package are you on ?

Have you checked, that it is not something like Smartbytes or another bandwidth management software hindering you ?

Have you checked, that your router doesn't have odd speed limits set ? In a recent firmware reset, AVM reset all the speed limits on the routers and they need to be set correctly again, if you are not on VDSL. The router can only auto-detect the line speed on VDSL and Cable. Not on any other line types.

    Thanks.

I have a case open . I'm just discussing here as John had mentioned he had issues.

1 gig package. To black-night and Airwire less than 500Mb/s

Yeah, it's a fairly minimal linux install so not much in the way or sh|teware running

I'll take a look at this

    Fritz!Box

Internet - Account Information - Connection Settings
    Downstream 1000 Mb/s
    Upstream 300 Mb/s

This has not changed on my device.
Has had those settings since I received the device from Airwire, although I am on the 150 Mb/s package.

What machine are you doing the test on as older under powered PC can't process full 1000 Mbps speeds on the lan cards ?

    Modern Dell laptops

Any laptop I've tested have all previously been capable of the full 1GB.

Sounds like it might be contention at the exchange.

Ended up downgrading profile to 500Mb/s looks like there's not much that can be done in the way of troubleshooting this.

Most providers say to run a 1000 mbps connection you need minimin a I5 with 8gb ram, so low spec laptops and PC's won't achieve full speed as they don't have the precessing power

Best contact airwire support with your issue.

I would assume he already did contact them to downgrade the package he's on.

I did not think of that.

I'm guessing it was Airwire that told him the issue was at his local exchange and outside their control.

Could be wrong, maybe he can confirm.

Well if it was 1000 mbps the it would be fiber and I guess nothing to do with his local exchange.

All FTTH with Open Eir leads back to the OLT at the local exchange.

Not so ...... full speed is achievable using low powered ARM devices for instances.
It all depends on the use-case and the hardware - NIC.

So the I7 should handle it fairly well then :)

Yeah there's been some posters in the past struggling to get past 100Mb/s with bad hardware.

As mentioned the laptops that were tested were capable of utilizing the full capacity of the line in recent past :)

    Airwire suggested it yep

I'm not sure it can be confirmed it's the exchange. They probably don't have that visability.

I guess all the local old folks are hammering downtown abbey on netflix ;)

    @limnam

You can check connection speed between two devices on your LAN using iperf client/server commands.
    DESCRIPTION
iperf is a tool for performing network throughput measurements. It can
test either TCP or UDP throughput. To perform an iperf test the user
must establish both a server (to discard traffic) and a client (to gen‐
    erate traffic).

    Hey,

    Yeah

I was more referring to visibility in the exchange

Local iperf tests show 929 Mbits/sec

    I think adapters are ok

Anyone elses IP address constantly changing? Seemed static before but in recent weeks it seems to change every night which is an annoyance as it's stopping smart dns working and doesn't allow me to connect remotely (I know there are services that you can sign up to that give you a web address). Can't fault it other than that.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 965 ✭✭✭shaveAbullock

A fixed IP is free with Airwire but you have to request it.

If you didn't request the fixed IP during the order, you would have a dynamic IP. Even dynamic IPs don't change very often with us, but it can happen.

To get a fixed IP, all you have to do is to ring or email or support team and request one. We usually change that there and then. That service is free of charge with us.

It seemed so constant I kind of forgot about requesting a fixed IP. Great service as usual changing account to fixed IP.

    Cheers
