    Yes,

Thanks. Seems a bigger issue than just my connection so.

    Hope it’s resolved soon.

One of our core links between Dublin and Galway went down this morning around 00:30. Most customers would never have noticed this, as there is ample backup capacity.

Unfortunately, as that link came back online again, it caused for much bigger problems due to a bug in the firmware of one of our switches in Dublin. This is something we will have to discuss with the vendor of said switch this week.

All issues were finally sorted at 11:10 this morning and we confirmed, that the authentication session for the majority of the customers came back online after that. A few will always be offline, as some people turn their gear off, when they are not at home.

Our support is not available on Sundays, but we have engineers on call monitoring the networks 24x7, that will sort these issue as they arise, in a timely manner. They also will update our Twitter feed at http://twitter.com/airwire as frequently as possible with updates.

For those, who still are offline, it is worth checking if cables on your router were swapped around during your own troubleshooting or maybe the Wifi got turned off pressing the "WLan" button. (If the "WLan" light is off, then your wifi is off !)

We will not respond to any requests in regards to support here on boards (sending me a PM is pointless, I don't deal with support), on twitter or facebook.

The only correct means of contacting support is emailing support@airwire.ie, which will even be answered outside of office hours on a best effort basis or phone our support at 091-395 000 within office hours.

A voicemail can be left outside of hours and will responded to within office hours. Unfortunately our phone systems were also affected in this case, but they were also back online around 11:00.

Also, please don't reply with support queries to this thread. I can not help with these. Please contact our support as outlined above.

You have to give credit to Airwire on how proactive they are for updating customers.

I would like to have seen the detail in the above post in a tweet or three.
It would have been helpful at the time.

Well done on getting the system back up in very very reasonable time this morning.

    Kudos!

I would like to have seen the detail in the above post in a tweet or three.

To be honest, even with the increased length of tweets, you will not get all that information in one tweet. A tweet is maximum 280 characters (used to be 140).

And while we do see it as important to inform our customers of issues and resolution times, we also prefer, that the engineers focus on getting the actual problem fixed. More extensive explanations, where necessary, can be looked at afterwards.

Fcuk that for a game of soldiers, the more I see of the reliability issues people are encountering with ftth the more inclined I am to stay with VM. It may be pricey but it's 100% reliable.

The reliability issues are nothing to do with FTTH. Virgin Media also goes down!

Every network has its problems. The fibre connection to my house is fine as far as I can tell. I think there is a problem on airwires network.

Heading into my fourth year with VM and never an issue yet, top class service, my average monthly speed according to my samknows is 367 mb on the 360 package!! There are several threads here regarding outages on ftth connections.

That has nothing to do with technology and everything to do with luck. VM have outages too but by chance it has not been in your area.

Down here in Ballyshannon too. Bad day for it to happen as it’s a big day for keeping in contact with family.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,253 ✭✭✭✭cnocbui

I was with Eir for a year with FTTH and had a single disconnection, but everyone gave them stick for their poor customer service. I cancelled with Eir and signed up with Airwire, who's customer service people rave about. Barely two months in and there have been at least four service disruptions so far. Eir is looking like the better option now.

Athlone, Co. Westmesth: we currently have an issue in Athlone. This also affects some SIRO and P

OpenEir issue. Engineer on the way to investigate. As previously advised, Twitter is your friend.

    https://twitter.com/airwire

Checking elsewhere seems to confirm this isn't an airwire isolated issue.

And yet they're still giving updates and service on Christmas Day. That's service for you. I hope they enjoy their time at home with family too.

Back online here (Laois), I agree tremendous service to resolve so quickly on Christmas day.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,983 ✭✭✭✭tuxy

I can't find info on twitter about it being a Open Eir issue not Airwire.
That said I'm fairly incompetent when it comes to using twitter.

Faulty power supply in a router in Athlone apparently.

Yeah I spoke too soon, it's gone here again. Twitter says they expect service to be fully restored by 20:00

I’m not sure whether to be grateful for someone trying to fix service on Christmas Day or annoyed that we can’t FaceTime family around Ireland and the US.

Unfortunate to have experienced an outage on 17th November and 25th December. Will this be a regular issue going forward I wonder?

It seems like it has been some hardware issues that you could only put down to bad luck. A power supply dying on a router is a random occurrence.

Yeah, true, and a fault on a carrier circuit was given as the reason for the last outage I experienced. Just the frequency of issues seems to be increasing lately after having been pretty reliable.

I do wonder if the lager companies have more redundancy but you can be sure if this was Eir we wouldn't have any idea what is happening.

It's back again for me but I don't expect it to be stable until 20:00

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,104 ✭✭✭iPhone.

Back here now. Hopefully that’s it.

Shouldn’t something as vital as a core router which I presume would be of enterprise grade have a secondary PSU or failover backup though?

I’d be ok with a lack of info if it had more redundancy, yep.
