The last of the original rock and roll stars has died. Little Richard at 87. Even now some his lyrics wood make a rapper say "whoa!".

    Jerry Lee Lewis says otherwise.

What is it with these early rock n rollers and longevity ?

    Chick Berry dies at 90
    Little Richard 87
Jerry Lee Lewis still with us at 84
Don Everly still going at 83.

That's some going for guys who burned the candle at both ends in their day.

A **** tonne of booze, drugs, and a huge splash of luck in the genetics lotto, would be my guess.

Sinking his own rock n' roll career just as the genre was starting to get rolling, by marrying his own cousin, yeah it definitely falls into complete lunatic territory.

There we are, I really did think he'd died a few years ago. Fair play to him, the bad ones last a bit longer :D

"Little Richard was always my main man. How hard must it have been for him: gay, black and singing in the South? But his records are a joyous good time from beginning to end."

    – Lemmy, Motörhead

Lemmy was best placed to make that remark, given that he too was more or less at the beginning.

Little Richard always denied being gay, said it was immoral, biggest closet case in music IMO.

I'm sure I seen a doc that said he had a taste for underage girls
Edit, someone above already mentioned it.

This was my first introduction to him!

Fired Hendrix from his band. Felt upstaged seemingly. Shouted at him backstage "I'm the king of rock n' roll"

Has a massive place in music history all the same.

He went to jail for transorting an underage groupie over the state line.

Elvis liked them young too. He was obsessed with girls with small feet. I think you can see a file the FBI were keeping on him online somewhere.

Don't forget Jimmy Page, Bowie, Lemmy and Pete Townsend the paedo.

Bit tongue in cheek on my part! There is a part of me that loves good rocking innocent songs, only to find out the singer is a bit suspect and the great song is somehow tainted for life .

It's an awful wrench. How can one not love the song, whilst it may be tainted by the singer?
