You could say suspiciously low number of new cases compared to deaths .

how do the new cases a couple weeks ago compare to deaths today?

Sweden didn't have a lockdown but it's doing well.

Why did the Irish, British, Spanish, Italian and other European governments not go with the idea of herd immunity?

People are living in misery because they can't travel, they can't have a meal in a restaurant or coffee in a café - they can't even visit relatives!

Furthermore, surgery not related to Covid should still have been allowed to go ahead. Anyone who has severe pain at the moment because the necessary surgery is not being allowed to take place is in a much worse state than most people who have caught SARS-CoV-2 - the official designation for the virus - the symptoms of which are not much different from the flu.

By the way, in my experience, diarrhea is much worse than having an awful fit of coughing.

i will presume the loose bowel comment was in jest...however there are 1,375 people who have died as of yesterday in Ireland who might disagree. And please if you do respond to this, please dont use the super edgy (and embarrassingly cringy) argument, 'they are all old and are going to die', (when its your turn will you be so cavalier?), these are Irish Citizens we are talking about here, people who have worked to make this country what it is today for you , for me, for all of us. A little respect would go a long way.

    some figures (today):

    Sweden infected. : 24,623. Deaths : 3,040
Norway infected :7,996. Deaths : 216. (they are 1 day behind on updating)
    Finland infected. :5,673. Deaths : 255
    Denmark infected :10,083 Deaths : 506

If you want to do a comparison you need to do a fair one. comparing the nordics with say Ireland or the UK is not recommended. Swedes in general are quite reserved, they do social distancing normally as do most of the nordics.

Also please stop saying Sweden has no lockdown. it depends where you go in Sweden, Some cities are on lockdown (last i heard Malmo was) and some have done some (like Stockholm) and some have done none. They govt have asked local authorities to put in place social distancing rules, closures, all the usuals on spacing , people to work from home when they can (they do that as per here) etc. The govt has no right to dictate those, only recommend. its up to local authorities to decide if they want to or not. Also Sweden is huge (quite deceiving on a map; exercise one: open a world map and take the length of Sweden, fold it over - it will touch North Africa) and has about 11ish million. outside the major cities its very very very remote, like Norway, Finland, less so Denmark.

Now personally, one thing i do think they got right is allowing regions flexibility. if you are in a town in northern Sweden or say western Ireland, flexibility on shutdowns should be in place, at least by now. Sweden definitely got it very wrong on the major cities as you can see from the data above. Also there is little indication they are over the infamous curve (we are, at least the first one), in fact there is quite a lot of reasons to believe they are most definitely not.

    Very good newsðŸ‘

Do we know if all 22 cases not in nursing homes were community spread or if a number were close contacts of confirmed cases or even health staff outside of nursing homes?

Any bets on Zara King's question today?

Zara King should be fronting Xposé or other lightweight piffle. Connections are handy when she is being asked to address Tony Holohan on behalf of the public.

The Irish defence force sent boxers, shooters and a football team with Mick McCarty if I remember. Maybe we could ask them?

I never knew that. That's interesting.

She wouldn't have a job in any other country. I have never seen a reporter of her physique on TV besides Ireland

She's pushing the leaving cert today.

Tony wasn't going to commit to saying he thinks one thing or another - it isn't his remit and he has to be mindful that whatever he says will be quoted back to him endlessly and parroted by talking heads in the media - but, he did give Zara a wry smile when she rephrased the question asking for his opinion "as a doctor". It was clever enough play by her, trying to get a juicy quote out of him - but not today Zara.

Does anyone else find it a bit tiring that JOE.ie only ask about direct provision. Don't get me wrong, they are right to ask these questions...but every day about the one topic?

As a journalist, she's hopeless. Asks dumb questions, repeatedly. Doesn't seem that clued in to her brief.

But, giving out about the way she looks, that's a bit much.

it doesn't mean it aint through though to be fair. Watch the movie bombshell, "it's a visual medium" you think all these celebs and even "Adele" are losing weight because it makes you happier!!! you appeal more to a demographic, not my rules, I agree it's shyte myself, but the poster has a point, she wouldn't.

It's worth asking. There's thousands of people in direct provision. Living standards would usually be quite poor, strangers sharing rooms together etc. If nobody asks it won't be in the spotlight. People already ask frequently about nursing homes and residential care settings. It's no different.

To be fair, Tony isn't been entirely clear there re numbers of people who are working in contact tracing.

When has anyone ever commented on a man's physique on this basis? It's neanderthal thinking.

Outside the impact of a mask is minimal. I do laugh everytime I meet a car with the lone driver wearing a mask.
I do agree though that in environments where maintaining social distancing is difficult, including supermarkets, masks should at a minimum be recommended

My husband is constantly saying this too...we came up with the idea that maybe they are going to more than one shop and dont have enough masks to change between two shops (and you shouldn't remove or reuse some) so they simply keep it on until they are done. Probably not right but slightly restores my faith in mankinds common sense lol

anyone find it odd how with all the possible sources, canteen, gym maybe, screws etc, they have managed to keep this from exploding in all of the Prisons in Ireland??

Am I right? have there been any prison cases? I know or would imagine visitation is off at present but it beats all the mathematics, even against care homes. how has this happened?

I put my mask on at home . I prefer adjusting it and fixing it before leaving the house . I then drive the 10 mins to the supreme alone in the car . So I would be one you would see on my own with a mask on
