    Yeah, those are fair questions.

Asking about a specific case for which the CMO did not have the details to hand and presumably no permission to speak about it by her family?

Can I ask, why do you feel entitled to that information? Why should a family’s privacy be breached for the consumption of the general public? The family has spoken out but the CMO couldn’t have known that at the time he was asked the question.

In fairness she gave this specific case to make her general question about putting non-covid19 patients into a covid19 ward. I don't think she wanted to discuss this case, she just wanted to show, that she has a right to ask her general question, which was in public interest.

Which he BTW didn't answer. His avoidance of it and vague answers caused the whole mess, not her.

I had flu at the end of January for probably the first time ever. I was going through a period of extreme stress so despite being very fit it hit me really hard. I'd had the flu vaccine in October, so I assume it was a different strain. Definitely flu rather than Covid as I had severe sinus symptoms. I was in bed for nearly a week felt so bad I could barely even watch tv in bed, I certainly couldn't read. After a week I was up and about but washed out. After two weeks I was absolutely fine. In March I started having chest pain and shortness of breath. Sick for 19 days, never as bad as I was with the flu but it continued on for longer. Recovered for 4 days then developed post viral pleurisy in my right lung on day 23 and costochondritis over the following week. The doctor who treated me can't say for definite what virus it was but said it was likely to be Covid. I'm on day 51 now, still having chest inflammation and breathing issues.

There appears to be a growing number of people reporting a long illness, so at least I don't feel like I'm going mad anymore. At this point I'm expecting recovery to take at least another month, I know that whenever I push myself too much I relapse. I'm trying to find a balance between getting enough rest and stagnation/muscle tightness from too much rest but it's really hard because I'm trying to figure it out blind. I don't know why recovery is taking so long. It may have to do with my immune system having been hit in January. It may be because I have an autoimmune condition (endometriosis). It may be something else completely.

Shouldn’t you be getting a CT scan at this stage? Do they even know it’s a virus? I’m sure you don’t have anything serious as I have but I dealt with recurrent chest infections for a long, long time and was continually fobbed off because of my young age but those chest infections were caused by breast cancer metastases in my lungs. The reduced lung capacity and rib pain I was experiencing meant that I couldn’t clear my throat properly which made me susceptible to chest infections.

I’m not saying you’ll have anything so serious but COVID pandemic or not, it sounds like what you’re experiencing needs further investigation. I put my trust in doctors far too much when they said it was nothing that wouldn’t go away and all I got for it was a death sentence. DO NOT think they won’t make assumptions because you are young. Seriously, be pushy. It’s your life, not theirs.

That is completely wrong. He answered her question, to the best of his ability - he's not going to comment on an individual case - and she got increasingly hysterical and wouldn't let him get a word in.

Absolutely amazing how you could have that interpretation of the events. It doesn't match the reality of the events at all.

    1. No law for that.
    2. See consistent CMO/HSE reply on masks - weak evidence, so not recommended nor will they ever be mandatory.
    3. That sounds like you don't even know what question you're asking!

The journalist's follow up questions should be...

Why is there no law for mandatory strict quarantine, it has been shown to be highly effective in many other countries.

Is the CMO/HSE stance on face covering/masks simply beyond ridiculous at this stage, seeing that so many other countries are adopting this eminently sensible measure ?

Is it not true that everything the CMO/HSE did was 'too little too late' as our terrible mortality and morbidity figures testify ?

The pandemic is inspiring artists to produce some stunning images...

    EXWgze4U0AAbPF_.jpg

Banksy has created a piece called 'Game Changer' that has gone on display in a corridor at Southampton general hospital.

Banksy left a note for hospital workers, saying: "Thanks for all you're doing. I hope this brightens the place up a bit, even if it's only black and white."

After lockdown measures are lifted, the piece - which is approximately one metre high and one metre wide - will be put on public display.

It will then be auctioned to raise money for NHS charities, a spokeswoman for Banksy confirmed.

So he didn't have to. But he was obliged to answer her general question about putting non-covid19 patients into a covid19 ward. It was a question about procedures in place to avoid it.

......She then passed it onto all of us here of which my wife and my eldest had the symptoms for about a week my wife in particular had serious breathing issues for 3 days and had to go to the doctor.

But more to the point, does your wife have any issue with you being a Rent Boy?

If she wanted to ask a general question, it probably would have been a good idea to stop asking questions about that particular case. She leaned heavily on it. And he did answer the question. I also listened to the presser. He couldn’t go into more detail because he was being hectored by the pseudo-journalist.

She caused it, 100%. Go away out of that that he caused it. :pac:

But like I said before, I’ve no interest in her being silenced. Far more entertaining to watch her make a fool of herself.

He was, as a cover of 'Live and Let Die' by rock band Guns N’ Roses played in the background !

That song sums up his totally incompetent response to the pandemic so far.

The policy with care homes seems to be to leave a Covid 19 Patient in the home - receiving close intimate treatment from Carers who then go on to provide close intimate treatment to non infected residents in the same home.
    And to do so repeatedly.

You are talking about washing and cleaning. Contact that even highly qualified nurses in a hospital would not generally have to do.
To me it is an obscenity that a person tested positive in a care home is left in that setting.
It would not surprise me at all if they were mixing Covid and Non Covid patients in the hospitals.

No I don't. The first part where he said he would not comment directly on the case I was all on board. But then he was not overly clear. Separation mentioned. Hand movements. Generalities.
I think it is very possible to speak generally in response to a question that is too particular. Especially as the question relates to public fears re hospital attendance.

Example of definitive but general answer - No. A patient who tests negative will never be put on a Covid ward. Especially not if that patient has underlying conditions. IF that has happened or will happen anywhere in Ireland there should be a thorough and immediate investigation. Thank you. Next.

You'd have to listen back to double check yourself but afaik his reply was along the lines of its policy not to. And to be fair he speaks as CMO rather than spokesperson for HSE. I would think if it merits investigation it will be. The way she did it did a complete disservice to the family of the girl who died. She was looking for a gotcha moment and playing politics with a tragic death.

There's a good part of me that believes this was circulating well before the first official case, another thing was it took ages to feel normal again, I think it was around the end of January

That woman last night night made a complete idiot of herself and went completely hysterical when she didn't get her soundbite from the CMO. I don't think the family would want there case discussed on national television as some gotcha to the hse and the cmo in all honesty.

Dr Holohan answered her question as best he could then when she didn't get what she wanted she went tonto interrupting left right and centre and made a holy show of herself in the process same as that twat from the indo.

I like listening to both sides of every story, it helps me form an opinion. I suggest you attempt to open your mind also.

We are now entering a phase of journalists like yesterdays lady and Gemma coming out for pot shots. I am depressed at the calibre of journalism I have seen from the press conferences and in the papers. A lot of reputable papers seem to moving more and more towards the clickbaiting type articles and there is a lack of investigative journalism. Where are the articles on NPHET and how decisions have been formulated or investigation into the socio-economical impact of funding, closure and the road ahead until we get a vaccine.

Overall I am just disheartened by what journalism is in this country. There is a user on here that every evening posts a detailed breakdown of numbers/decisions that offers more insight into all of this then every paper that day. This and other thread (boards) in general provides more information than papers, although you have to sort through a lot of comments to find the gems that aren't in an echo chamber. Credit to Boards.ie and the users on here who were the first to discuss this pandemic when there wasn't a peep out of papers back in December, January and February.

There’s a difference between free speech and dangerous bull****.

We should defend our way of life to an extent that any attempt on it is crushed, so that any adversary will never make such an attempt in the future.
