So the closest is more than twenty times further away than the map shows and the other forty to fifty times further away?

I think it's time for wikipedia type citations as there are so many different sides pushing their own agenda.

American intelligence service issue a statement https://www.dni.gov/index.php/newsroom/press-releases/item/2112-intelligence-community-statement-on-origins-of-covid-19saying "The Intelligence Community also concurs with the wide scientific consensus that the COVID-19 virus was not manmade or genetically modified." and that they "will continue to rigorously examine emerging information and intelligence to determine whether the outbreak began through contact with infected animals or if it was the result of an accident at a laboratory in Wuhan.”

There are two labs in wuhan doing this research that we know of. I've no issue with people calling into question veracity of a particular claim but I do take issue when people try to confound facts to cast doubt. I think this is the source of the map posted. So let's be clear. The article cites a publication by Chinese researchers that claim virus must have been from a lab. China censors all corona virus literature now. That paper was pulled but Italian website has link to paper here. if interested.
    • The wuhan centre for disease control BSL2 (one in the photo posted here) is adjacent to market and to hospital where first cases were treated.
    • The wuhan centre of virology BSL4 is further away.
'The WHCDC was also adjacent to the Union Hospital (Figure 1, bottom) where the first group of doctors were infected during this epidemic.' The report says.

US is doing better than Ireland per population.

Population of Europe is 741 million.

Population of USA is 340 Million.

Population of ROI is 4.9 million

You can do the maths. There's around 6 states badly affected.

What percentage of Europe make up the people affected?

Most states are doing excellent and will reopen soon.

People just love blaming Trump even though he's doing a great job.

The one thing whoever was advising him did right was to shut down international travel and tighten restrictions around it.

His attitude towards the disease from the outset has been shambolic however.

I admire your constant trolling, well done. :P

How is the bleach working out for people?

BTW Ireland is a micro state compared to USA. How has Ireland done in comparison to Andorra?

The last I read was the scientist that released the original paper on it also carried out studies on the outbreak of Sars outbreak in relation to the spread of that virus and the transfer of that virus trough faeces.
Both papers turned out to be a carbon copy of each other with just dates and virus names changed.

I am really surprised that so many people give credence to Trump's efforts at distraction from his woeful handling of the pandemic in the USA.

USA 4.25% of the world's population.

USA 1,160,838 cases, approx 32% of the world's reported cases.

USA 67,448 deaths, approx 25% of the world's reported deaths.

EUropean Union+UK is almost 60% of reported deaths worldwide, 6.5% of world population

Obviously, that depends on how numbers are researched in other countries.

Russia's numbers are flying up now.

This briefing will be interesting when it's opened to questions (if it is) as it's surely going to be all about the supposed robust discussion between cabinet members and Tony Holohan. I'm sure the officials have got their own response ready which will tip toe across this matter.

Oh God, one camera again :(

Spain allowed some workers back about 3 weeks ago and numbers still plummeting. 800 odd cases today and just 50 in Madrid which was one of the hardest hit areas.

How many people are dying of Covid 19 and at the time of death the only illness they have is Covid 19? You know like healthy people with no medical complications my guess that figure in this country would be less than 50 perhaps even less than 20. That would be the true death rate. The vast majority of people are not dying of Covid 19 they are dying with Covid 19 in their system.

We may never have a vaccine and our lives may be changed forever.

Congratulations on both your medical qualification not to mention your epoch-shattering and undoubtedly vastly-researched factual contribution to the quickly evolving scientific canon on the novel coronavirus.

    That is absolutely false

Death rate is not calculated based on it's effect on young healthy people only. A huge proportion of the population have other medical problems

Wouldn't worry about this yet. There's about 40 vaccine programmes running now let's see them start to fail before we begin panicking

A safe and effective vaccine could be a while off alright. Treatment options look to be the short and medium term hope and with so many working on that I have high hopes for it.

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.

Excellent news but in the last few weeks the numbers on weekends have dipped so we'll have to see how they are as the week starts up

True, good point. It’s still a dip on previous weekends, so hopefully it continues.

The Wuhan lab thing smells like such a frame up.

Sheriff Trump had his man two weeks ago, without any evidence. Two week later the evidence had been manufactured discovered.

It's like the Weapons of Mass Destruction lie recycled.

Well that's a bullshït article. Take this for example, "We've never accelerated a vaccine in a year to 18 months," Dr. Peter Hotez, dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, tells CNN. "It doesn't mean it's impossible, but it will be quite a heroic achievement." And yet in 2009, the H1N1 vaccine was created, tested and mass vaccination began in 5 months. Yes, the creation of a flu vaccine is different, because it's an adaptation of an existing flu vaccine but clinical trials and mass production were all done and completed in that time.
