While tragic, the death figure on a given day is statistically irrelevant. Thousands of people already have it and hundreds of these have / will die. Many of those announced today could be already dead for weeks.

Two successive days of significant reductions in new infections detected is far more important for gauging how we are doing now.

We’ve no idea when the people died or when the tests were done or even when the test results came back.
This daily bell ringing exercise is becoming farcical. Untold 1000s got it/will get it and had/will have mild symptoms or at havent/won’t need a hospital bed. I think around 3000 will die I the end.
It could have been a lot worse.
No one is to blame but the Chinese.

The question on people being in ICU in Feb and then being later diagnosed caught them out a little there.

CMO saying there would have been a degree of suspicion

What else is going to come out to 'catch them out'?

Your man is probably from the journal. News for dopes and crybabies. He said 229. Just checked their site. Yep 299.

    229?

In fairness he did report 229 at the beginning, someone wasn't paying attention and ran with 299.

Just rewound to starf and he did say 229. Not sure why 299 is being reported on screen

Seems like it is 229. RTÉ news website has it at 229 as well.

    It’s definitely 229.

    1.2% growth is impressively low.

Low new cases but its quite possible lots of people arent bothering getting tested and just riding it out at home given the massive wait times and ever changing criteria. I still know people that were tested weeks ago and never got results back.

Did anyone get how the case numbers were so low? Was there a testing breakdown?

229 is our lowest number since 1 April.

Looks like the virus had arrived in Ireland long before anyone suspected

So it could have been here in late January early February

Most people with symptoms will be told to feck off now I'm guessing, whatever happened to test test test

We've done 40,000 tests in the last 7 days. Only 5000 tested positive out of that. Increasing to 70,000 tests next week. Not sure how that isn't high testing numbers?
