What point are you trying to prove posting worst case scenario stories in this thread?

Probably just dont care now anymore either way

Kids have been stuck in apartments for weeks enforced heavily by the police and army. I can really understand why when given 1 hour to leave their apartment they took it.

Its called reality. Some people still try to moronically claim this only effects elderly people or people with an underlying condition.

Re. Reusable respirators in healthcare setting. Seems like Uk nhs are using them.

The company that makes the masks even said should be done in a pandemic. Cost benefit was done and they make way more sense. Someone please show that committee that published their minutes recently. I’d advocate the full face ones as more protection for HCWs

    http://www.3m.co.uk/intl/uk/ohes/segments/healthcare/(9666a)OH_ReusableTechBulletin_lft.pdf

    Reduced Product Costs
As 3M half masks are reusable, one mask can be issued per worker per pandemic wave. 3MTM 6035 P3R filters are also reusable, and one pair is considered to have enough capacity to last a pandemic wave. When compared with disposable respirators which are discarded after every shift, or between patients, total product purchase costs for reusable respirators are likely to be considerably lower.
    Reduced Storage Costs
Linked to the above, the storage volumes and costs required are often substantially reduced by choosing a reusable respirator option.
    Reduced Fit Testing Resource
The Department of Health guidance states that “every user should be fit tested and trained in the use of the respirator.” The 3MTM 7500 Series Reusable Half Mask is supplied in three sizes and features a pliable, silicone face seal, meaning that a successful fit test result is much more likely to be achieved first time across the vast majority of face shapes and sizes. This eliminates the extra time and resource involved in retesting a wearer to an alternative respirator shape, as can happen when issuing disposable respirators.

Q – For how long will a set of particulate filters last in use?
A – Filters should be changed when they become clogged with particulate contaminant. The wearer can determine when this occurs as it becomes harder to breathe through the filters.
The filters are designed to filter out particles in industrial conditions and in concentrations much higher than is likely to be encountered in a pandemic situation. It is therefore expected that one set of filters will cover at least one pandemic wave, after which they should be replaced for infection control reason

Thats a hard hitting story. Once again highlights how little is known about the course Covid-19 takes. Truly humbling reading.

    NOTES: -
    * Daily increase numbers on these dates represent both new cases and older cases reported from Germany which results in skewed daily % increases and average case reporting % changes, numbers are broken down as:-

** "Recovered" rates are not reported by the Department of Health in the above link, these figures are taken from the Worldmeters and Johns Hopkins websites which use data supplied by the DoT to the ECDC under the WHO Guidelines for reporting.

Recovered statistics are only be published as "recovered" following two successful tests of being clear of the virus under the WHO reporting guidelines, as a result it is likely the recovered data is skewed. Updated on 15/04/20 - The WHO reporting criteria has been changed recently to eliminate the 2 test requirement before reporting as recovered, now an outcome report is sent within one month of initial notification or when an outcome is known, the available health outcomes are either “recovered/healthy”, “not recovered", “death", “unknown" or “other", weather this helps create more accurate recovery numbers or skews them further is yet to be seen.

*** Due to the above issue with reporting of recovered cases the number of active cases is also likely skewed.

From 24/04/20 probable deaths are included in the official death figures, this is to comply with the WHO definition of COVID-19 deaths issued on the 16th and adopted in Europe by the ECDC yesterday, this is in compliance with what is known as the International Statistical Classification of Diseases known as the ICD-10, as a result a new column has been added into the charts to separate confirmed and suspected COVID-19 deaths – see this post for an explanation on this change.

Did people think it just went away?

It would be great if you got to ask questions at the daily HSE briefings,

Is there talk of them testing 100 thousand a day?

This some sort of wind up?

Eileen Whelan 9 o’clock news says this for mid May..

Then the following report says 100k a week...

Can our broadcasters not get this right?

Second time recently this glaring cockup. George Lee also said 100k a day due.

Presumably the second wave will kill 49.8 million people in line with the predictions of many on here that this is a one in 100 years pandemic that will be as deadly as the Spanish Flu.

Find me one solitary example of anyone saying this.

    Go on

Its called reality. Some people still try to moronically claim this only effects elderly people or people with an underlying condition.

No they just claim that those outside of the main infected cohorts (elderly, obese, very infirm) are outliers. Which of course they are.

And so wave two begins in Europe before wave one even ends

Though it's debatable how risky this outdoor play would be compared to adults doing the same. Prof Luke O'Neill said during the week that there is virtually no evidence now that children are 'super spreaders'.

Classrooms are a different matter, indoors and everyone on top of each other.

Where do you live? It must be party central as I haven't seen any parties around here. Is there load of parties going on around your parts?

Yes there is a party in my pants, ohhh sorry parts... err right... no here no is quiet, when the restrictions were made come into force not much changed, actually saw a good bit of stupidity , but I think as a couple of weeks passed and the reality started to sink in and the actual implications to people’s lives started to hit home and they realized that the only way out of this IS copping on and knuckling down with discipline for the sake of everyone...

George is not good with numbers and now he has infected Eileen.

    It's 100k per week

Find me one solitary example of anyone saying this.

I'm not trawling back through all these threads now that there is 26 of them, but I do remember individual posters saying it. We had people predicting final mortality rates of 1-7% and one poster even predicted 21%. That puts us into tens of millions dead territory.

The poster I responded to posted a chart 2 weeks ago which seemed to show that covid-19 would be far deadlier than the 1957 pandemic (1.5 million dead) by many multiples, which I disputed.

Many of these remarks are scattered throughout other posts on the forum. I don't keep a series of "I told you so" bookmarks.

More to the point, the models by Dr. Neil Ferguson and his Imperial College Covid Response team predicted in mid-March that coronavirus would be deadlier than the Spanish Flu.

The UK government abandoned their "herd immunity" strategy and went into lockdown based on this assumption.

The creator of this site, DeVore created a number of posts explicating the Imperial models. I'm not digging these posts up - they are there if you want to look for them. Myself and others on these threads objected to the assumption that Dr. Ferguson's modelling was correct, based on his huge over-estimations previously in the foot-and-mouth crisis.

Surely if children become infected with the virus, they can transmit the virus to those around them if they cough/sneeze/snotty nose.

Will the numbers in nursing homes tell us anything about the spread - can they be used to make guesses as to the actual number in the community? I read one article said 179 nursing homes had clusters- with around 550 nursing homes in Ireland that seems high, given the overall % of cases in the country based on the tests.

It's only ever going to be 100k a week. The UK are looking to get o 100k a day but are probably going to struggle to get to that many for some time yet

Of course 100k a week is around 15k a day - wonder why they didn't simply say that - it was good enough the last time they said we would be getting to 15k a day, but that was a few weeks ago:rolleyes:

Wish they’d clean up their act. Not that difficult thing to report on!

They always take a big dip in the US on Sundays. Let's wait until Tuesday before any assumptions.

Who's reporting the recovery cases? We were very slow with the recovery cases at first, now it's just under 10,000 recovery cases.

It's low priority stuff and was just reported once about 20th April.

How lovely that they get to go on day trips. Can't see anything wrong here.

Same applies to any visitor from outside the state. The 2km restriction can't be applied to them.

When I was reading the "100k a day" stories, it just sounded ridiculously high and unrealistic, good to hear it wasn't actually the case. 100k a day wouldn't have made any sense in a country this small.

I think I read yesterday on Irish Times that the UK capacity is around ~41k a day, so they'd need to more than double it to get to 100k.
