So many big tities that it never got a chance to spread in as they shut down fast with next to no cases. IN theory there could be 20 New Yorks out there waiting to happen once those places reopen, LA so on

Is there clear science the disease has left the body in people who show no symptoms. Any white paper about this yet?

I heard some people got the virus again after recovery?

I live in the US and the way people are behaving it will hit double or treble or maybe 10 times the number.

If the president can't even practice social distancing with his daily briefing that just tells you everything you need to know.

Right now outside in the green area in the apartment block where i live there are kids from different families playing together and parents chatting.

And it's all Trumps fault? Not the people making their own decisions? Have they lost the power of independent thought?

Smokers are 4x times less likely to become infected by Covid than non smokers. Nicotine patch trials underway
    on patients currently
    https://www.reddit.com/r/China_Flu/comments/g7gjxt/smokers_four_times_less_likely_to_contract/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app

It's true seemingly. I'm off smokes 10 years, but am now going back on them as a precautionary measure.

Hmm.....I'd be more likely to try bleach than this one....here's why.

UVA,B and C all have been used in medical applications for decades, including probes, cauterising etc....
This 'device' is pre clinical - which means it does not exist. It means the UVA is known to kill bacteria and certain virus.

However, I see two big problems:
    - the dosage (power, band and duration) is critical

    - This device 'seems' to be inserted into the trachea and guided to the left and right bronchus at best. This is a very small percentage of the functional parts of the lungs .
So while it may be effective for upper respiratory inflection, it seems to be unable to treat lower tract where covid-19 seems to be attacking

    - It is currently unregulated and as it is requires insertion into the body - it is at least a class 2b medical device which will require years of trial before certification

The company pushing this are a 'well known' for profit medical organisation with a patchy record

finally, about a month ago, they were a 'dime' stock but have significant uptick in the last month.
    Someone is making money here.....

(PS. I work in a ancillary industry so know this medical space (UV, IR in healthcare applications) well)

Seems Trump's question wasn't so dumb after all :P

OK so as you live in the USA, do you think Trump is losing support from the American public after his gross mishandling of the crisis or is he still on course to win the election in November presuming it goes ahead of course?

Oh come on that's total hyperbole. Like people who predicted Trump to get us into a nuclear war.

I agree though from here on in it will depend how states like Michigan and Lousiana flatten the curve and if we get any real spikes in Florida, Texas or California. So far those states have avoided them for now.

At least both California and Florida in the last couple of days have increased their rate of testing, not so for Texas.

People just want someone to blame and the blame is going on Trump.

Some people in the states want tighter restrictions, other people in the States just want to return to work and think its all just a big hoax. Other people just want the major cities to have tighter restrictions and open everything back up.

Whatever he does he's going to be scrutinized and unfairly a lot of the time.

The only difference between where I am and Ireland is the 2KM rule but he has also banned flights from Europe so I think he's doing a good job. Also banning immigration now hoping it will boost his numbers.

He gets treated very unfairly by the media but he's doing all he can. Some of the stuff he comes out with is to try and keep everyone happy.

    Trump is no fool.

The USA is 66 times bigger than Ireland. Statistically its doing better than Ireland on a population basis.

    Deaths per million people
    Ireland 205
    USA 157

Amazes me during this pandemic how bad some people are at Maths, can't interpret data properly, can't read graphs etc. Comparing the US to individual European countries as if its a fair comparison, the USA (330 million) is closer the entire schengen population (420 million) that it is to any European country.

Ireland has a population of 4.9 million.
Population of USA is 328 million.

We are not as densely populated as the likes of New York which has a population of 8.4 million.

The states population is 65 times bigger than ours.

In fairness I think he is doing a good job but would like to see to him lock down individual states.

Near a million (known) cases - over 50,000 already dead (actually many more now they are following the WHO advice) - remember they only really started testing a little while ago
State governors are opening up regardless the situation - an idiot for a president
It is gonna be a sh*t storm in America in the next few months

Without preventative measures their death toll could easily hit millions even at a conservative CFR of 1%

    how far does UV-C penetrate?

nvm, looked it up, about 3 hundredths of a millimeter

wavelength between 200 - 280, 10% intensity at .03mm visible light penetrates much further

No just good oul 40% liquor.

it needs to be at least 60% to get rid of the virus, youll have to drink half as much again, then you should be right...

You just illustrated your own point there....comparing total population figures are irrelevant in this case. Why ?

    - The virus is more deadly with age and underlying health condition. The average lifespan in Ireland is approx 3.5 years more than the USA so we have more older people in Ireland (per capita).

    - There is also significant proportion of the USA population that don't have health insurance of any sort and will die in the community without registering on any healthcare stat.

    - Many states seem to have very low death rates so either has not reached peak or are executing near perfect social distancing.

The only figure that is comparable right now is no of deaths - as all other factors are unknown at this point. You may as well compare deaths to number of McDonalds

The USA is 66 times bigger than Ireland. Statistically its doing better than Ireland on a population basis.

    Deaths per million people
    Ireland 205
    USA 157

Don’t see what the point of that would be. If the reason is that people aren’t sticking to it at the moment, the same people definitely won’t stick to it for another 2 weeks. Those who have been obeying the lockdown, will just get pissed off and say what’s the point in them sticking to it, when the people who were the reason for extending it are off having a great time doing whatever they want to do.

If they can’t properly enforce it now, I don’t know what chance they have after the 5th, when people will be even more restless and more people are against the idea

With 159 health workers seriously ill in hospital and 5 dead, I say bring in the army and batons. Its seriously disrespectful to the dead and sick to be acting like gob****es and putting other peoples lives at risk.

No they won't. If people are that sick they will go to hospital. Even uninsured. They will be treated regardless of their insurance status, its illegal not to. What don't people understand about this? People aren't turned away

Sorry, I deleted your rest of your post but re some states having low numbers, yes people are practicing near perfect social distancing in some places and have passed the peak without high numbers of deaths. My own state is one of them.

Some people here are so desperate for the entire US to go to ****, despite indications that many states are doing ok and won't have a NYC type situation, they won't hear it. Pretty sad.

You are really missing the point.....

About 27 million people in the good old USA have not health insurance
    https://www.census.gov/library/publications/2019/demo/p60-267.html

The free medicare and medicade programs operate differently in different states and the research shows that uninsured people wait until critical (with covid-19 that's too late) before going to emergency dept.

Its been the same of decades and is a one of the contributory reasons for the reduction in longevity that the USA has experiences over the last 30 years....

( Private healthcare in the USA is excellent - especially the coporate subscriptions as they screen people for many illnesses and are very good at early diagnosis)

PS. I lived in the US for 12 years so have first hand experience of it. I like the place but think they are better leaders on both sides than the man child.
