What is this "probable deaths" thing? When does this apply to? Was there not a figure very recently for that? Is this including the previous figure? Sorry I dont watch these briefings

Hmm that was an interesting stat just there....500 community cases a day on average at the moment and 100 a day from nursing....would have thought it would be the other way around if community transfer is zero and most cases are coming from care homes and healthcare staff?

EDIT: On news now for reference.

500 cases a day is 7000 in two weeks, how many active cases have we? Not sure, but transmission looks less than 1

Some dribblers thought it was over and we should open pubs and schools ASAP.

But on the other hand thats likely because they insist its only elderly in nursing homes and anything else is just fake news.

It's confirmed and probable going by what Tony just said.

37 year old identical twins working as nurses in Southampton died from C19 this week.

An ordinary flu, overhyped, only affects the elderly, lockdown needs to be ended,....people need to catch themselves on realise that, if anything, this virus is worse than first feared.

I would be careful with that one if I was you. See quote from the bottom of the article. I am struggling with it to be honest.

"The hospital could not confirm Emma Davis' death, which the family said was also related to a coronavirus infection.

Hospital staff held a "Clap for Katy" outside the main entrance on Thursday evening, hours before Emma's reported death."

    The nursing times disagree

    https://www.nursingtimes.net/news/workforce/nurse-who-people-would-aspire-to-be-like-dies-after-covid-19-diagnosis-23-04-2020/

The chances of identical twins dying within 3 days, of the same virus ? Think about it?

Because our healthcare system can’t cope with that at the moment. People are forgetting that our healthcare has largely closed to deal with this and needs to get back up and running alongside dealing with Covid19. If healthcare becomes overrun the economy can’t function. Healthcare staff will be infected, it would have huge knock on affects in other parts of society. We can’t afford to be complacent

But those who have made seriously ill by the virus constitute a small minority of those infected. Many people may have had Covid-19 and recovered without even knowing that they ever had it.

Did anyone see that Polish couple being interviewed walking on the Galway prom a few mins ago on the news? They were on talking about social distancing yet they said they were from Tuam which is like 35k away.

This reclassifying isn't helping with clarity in a briefing.

I don't like when Houlihan talks about how other countries report cases. Its not a competition and not relevant to the situation in this country

Confused he says they always report probable and nothing changed yet they are adding 185 separate now

It's where there is no confirmed lab positive test but where doctors suspect from the symptoms that the person died of Covid-19.

Bis disingenuous for Tony to sat they's given the probables every day. They have been reporting them for the past few days only

300+ Community transmissions is high especially considering we still have a lot of restrictions

Not everyone thought we were doing great.

Some of us didn't jump on board that hype train!

Tis a wonder how many people die per month in Ireland average for the last couple of years , for the 1st 4 months, and compared to this year??
Tis be interesting enough, if anybody has the wherewithal to find out?🙂ðŸ˜

It only adds to the confusion, not enough clarity in the message. Which betrays a little weakness in terms of leadership, and I say that as one who had been impressed by Tony from the outset.

When will they confirm these probable deaths? How long does it take

  • Site Banned Posts: 5,975 ✭✭✭podgeandrodge

Do people have stats on number of deaths per month in nursing homes etc? Not attempting to undermine the sadness of deaths occuring, but there is presumably a mathematical argument that some would have died in the same period anyway?

That would be a very big number then. Is it for the whole duration?
