Where exactly does one acquire a mask? If you’re that scared of getting sick then stay at home.

Masks can be fashioned from nappies or sanitary towels as a temporary measure until you can get to your nearest chemist which should be re-stocked.

How about people that are sick stay at home? In the other thread about masks, a guy who was covid-19 positive went into a chemist. Probably went of to get some groceries in the shop as well.

These are the idiots that are amongst us and you have to treat everyone as if they are infected with the virus.

Our leaders. I am one of the most vocal mask activists on Twitter. I am big time pro-mask, make it the law. I have tweeted nearly every minister about this issue. I have also left two voicemails for Simon Harris.

Here's a mask anyone should be able to make, no idea how well it could protect you but at least cuts the possibility of spreading it if you're asymptomatic.

    US Surgeon General demonstrates.

Just want to point out something about mandatory mask wearing,
In all European countries that have issued this,in certain cases on medical grounds and in case of special needs these person's can be exempt from wearing where a medical note can be produced to confirm.

So you think you can see what people wearing masks are thinking ? Psychic ? Or what ?

    (1) It is well known that masks should be worn by people who are already infected, and this fact is even accepted by the anti mask 'experts' who give the HSE and DOH press conferences.

    (2) However it is now well documented that people shed virus when they are pre-symptomatic and that silent spreaders are a danger to all.

Therefore it is unbelievable that the thinking has not evolved enough to connect the two above and start recommending masks for all outside the home.

What do you think a mask is for? It's so you don't infect anybody else.
    Educate the public about it.

People on Etsy are doing masks, they are going to be the hit fashion accessory of Summer.

If you get one, don't be the asshole who thinks they are now invulnerable.

Maybe so but if people know how to use masks properly combined with observing all the social distancing regulations then they are effective. Also the wearing of them is now compulsory in many countries which never previously required this.

I agree and it’s true but I would be interested to know what impact it might be for a nation to open up with all the population wearing a mask (including scarfs and home made masks).

Let’s just imagine, for example, we have to reopen our economy on a much broader scale over the coming weeks and there will not be enough masks for everyone. Are people better off not wearing anything but being told to adhere to strict social distancing etc. Or are we better off telling everybody to adhere to strict social distancing but also to wear masks (even home made ones) where possible aswell.

Italy on the way out of lockdown?
Newspapers in Italy are reporting that the country’s coronavirus lockdown, the longest and toughest in Europe, is to be eased over the next four weeks. However, there has been no official confirmation, AFP reports.

    Weak excuses!

You don't need the perfect mask, look at Asia they wear all different types. Anything is better than nothing! Even a homemade one or a tightly woven bandana.

Any additional layer of protection that could help cut down transmission even a small bit, should be welcomed and embraced. Just because some people might use a mask as an excuse for being lazy with other measures... doesn't mean you should not advise everyone else to wear one. Sorry, but it's poor rationale.

The reason our government have been slow to suggest widespread use of masks, is because they are blindly following WHO guidelines. They are avoiding their responsibility to show leadership and take a position on it themselves... they are dithering and indecisive, which will quite likely cost us lives!

I am hoping it's the wider testing that's causing the daily cases to rise, because if it's due to the workers returning last week, then we are in for more carnage in hospitals in the next few weeks.

In their update source on worldometers, it looks like it says PCR+ is 2796 and the official PDF has a breakdown between PCR and Antibodies. So maybe it's 2796 new cases today plus results of previous cases? Hard to tell.

OK this is not a Monty Python sketch. This thing is unlikely to vanish, it will be with us for some time but it's just not feasible to keep an economy under wraps for very long periods of time. They will be rolling back on it quite soon as is clear in other countries.

That’s actually a great way to live. People don’t really think about the “what would I regret if I was on my deathbed Thinking about life decisions”.. if you read top 10 things people dieing regret, it’s never that they didn’t work harder for a promotion or spend more time in work.

I think that’s why I abhor the rat race society we have built. And people don’t seem to realise that it doesn’t have to be like this, this is just the way we have been programmed to live in the world. It’s another form of feudalism but most of us in western democracies are thrown enough comforts and enough distractions (Mortgages/loans, Financial crisis down to mismanagement/greed) to not bother challanging it.

Sorry, back to discussions on the inconvenient virus that is upsetting economies to the point where we will have to probably let people die so economies can get back up and running....

Reminds me of the Fisherman story:

A smartly-dressed tourist is taking photographs when he notices a shabbily dressed local fisherman taking a nap in his fishing boat. The tourist is disappointed with the fisherman’s apparently lazy attitude towards his work, so he approaches the fisherman and asks him why he is lying around instead of catching fish. The fisherman explains that he went fishing in the morning, and the small catch would be sufficient for the next two days.

The tourist tells him that if he goes out to catch fish multiple times a day, he would be able to buy a motor in less than a year, a second boat in less than two years, and so on.

The nonchalant fisherman asks, “Then what?”

The tourist enthusiastically continues, “Then, without a care in the world, you could sit here in the harbour, doze in the sun, and look at the glorious sea.”

“But I’m already doing that”, says the fisherman.

The enlightened tourist walks away pensively, with no trace of pity for the fisherman, only a little envy.

Once it gets into a country to any significant degree, its virtually impossible to stop its spread, lockdown or no lockdown.

Only China have managed to stop a large outbreak in its tracks and reverse it, albeit with Chinese methods.

Realistically once it takes hold, the best you can aim for is protect nursing homes and the vulnerable as best you can.

We tried our best here to contain covid19 but its still highly prevalent and getting into nursing homes, with a lockdown in place. As some experts have said, we were more interested with locking down and protecting the healthy than the weak and vulnerable and this latter category were an afterthought.

I agree but surely masks should be compulsory when outdoors at all times.

We need to get real and start taking this seriously.

Problem with masks is that those who choose to wear them (so long as they are not compulsory) will quickly develop a superior attitude against those who don't.

The shopper without the mask will slowly become used to glancing stares of disapproval and finger wagging.

The mask wearers will pull down their masks to chastise others, while fumbling to put them back on and managing to touch their mouths and nose in an effective transfer of the virus onto themselves while the non mask wearer calls them cúnts and leaves the shop healthy.

The city is far from complete lockdown
A student travelled from New York and infected 70 people 4000 people have been put into quarantine due to contact tracing from all on the plane to where they ended up.
Airports train stations are doing temperature testing.
Check points around the city are also doing temperature checks or people entering or leaving the city. Anybody entering the city or leaving the city must be registered on the states corna virus app.
All arrivals from abroad must quarantine for 28 days.
    Weddings
    Funerals
    And public performance are curtailed
For the next 28 days also

Meanwhile people are free to arrive here in Dublin and go where ever they want, no quarantine.

Still haven't seen a single temperture check anywhere. Temperature check should be compulsory at entrances to shops for example.

No sign of any government virus app because Paul Murphy and his merry band of asshats will be up in arms about civil liberties.

Is there anyone out there with a better idea on how to prevent symptomless Covid patients spreading Covid in public ?

    It's simple really...

“My mask protects you; your mask protects me.”
