So, 549 cases in the general community.

I'm not sure of the exact number of the increased cases in healthcare workers but these would be included in the 549 as even though they might have been tested in a nursing home they are not nursing home residents.

Ah here, you think we can do this until August? Come off it!

We surely won't be able to cope with a rise in cases if people end up in the ICU. More people infected, more hospital cases.

We should all be wearing face masks now and when they lift restrictions.

Community transmission is when cases occur in a locality, but there's no attributable cause. Close contacts involve transmission between friends, family members or between worker and patient, so community cases involve a mixture of both kinds.

So 549 cases are outside of nursing homes, surely this would indicate that community transmission is not at zero- we are in fact seeing a spread in the community, but at a very low reproduction level?

That being true that’s in the region of 30 cases an hour so far, ballpark 1 new case diagnosed every 2 minutes, sure be grand, open everything..

Most of those cases happened weeks ago. We went through a huge backlog of cases weeks old in the last 10 days.

Do people listen to the press conferences at all??

    From Worldometers:

New York State Governor Cuomo said that preliminary findings from an antibody study conducted on 3,000 people in New York State found a 13.9% actual infection rate statewide (and 21.2% in New York City), which translates to an estimate of about 2,700,000 actual cases in New York State (10 times more than the about 270,000 cases that have been detected and reported officially). Governor Cuomo acknowledged that the official count reported by New York State (which still is not including probable deaths as recommended by the new CDC guidelines) of about 15,500 deaths is "not accurate" as it doesn't account for stay at home deaths. Based on Worldometer's count (which includes probable deaths reported by New York City) of about 21,000 deaths and the 2,700,000 case estimate from the new antibody study, the actual case fatality rate in New York State could be at around 0.78%

Are they random tests. Or people volunteering.

As soon as one family member gets it they all do I presume that’s the kind of community transmission that’s occurring rather than people coughing on each other in supermarkets and transmitting it that way

George Lee on reproduction rates on 6.1 News. "As it's now below 1 you are unlikely to infect a full person". What sort of shíte is that? It's like saying you might make someone "a bit pregnant"

This is the way I see things going.
Soon, many of us who have restricted our movements will be told to come on out.
Imagine coaxing a cat down from a tree.
"Come on, come on, comme onnn, pishwishwishwish," they will say. "That's it. Out you come. All is well."
Out we will come blinking into the world, a little nervous about whether it is safe or not. But still, there we will be.
"Stay," they will say. "Stay now. That's it. You're fine. Just stay there. Good lad/good lassie."
Then, just like now in Spain and Singapore and Japan the numbers will start going up and we will be a bit uncertain. But "Stay," they will say. "That's it. Staaaay. Good boy. Good girl. Don't worry."
And then the numbers will come to a certain point and they will say, very loudly " GET BACK! GET BACK IN YOUR HOUSES! GO HOME. RETREAT. GET BAAACK!"
And we will scurry back home and close the doors and wait while the curve tries to flatten, grateful that we are still in one piece. If we are.
Until a few weeks later they will start saying, "Come on. Commme oonnnn. Pishwishwishwish. There's a good girl/there's a good boy. It's safe. Don't worry. Out you come..."

Repeat for an unknown length of time. Great.

Very funny.:) But in all probability this is precisely what the official policy will be for the foreseeable future.

Those 549 must be identified as family, friends, work transmissions. Not community transmission like passing someone in the park who spreads it.

Are the majority of the 549 cases down to frontline workers infecting their families, friends or colleagues, though. I'm not convinced there isn't some community transmission going on based on what i've observed, there seems to be restriction fatigue setting in amongst people. I think some people are starting to think this is only a nursing home problem.

I suppose we'll only really be tell in a couple of weeks if we see another increase in cases.

Ah here, you think we can do this until August? Come off it!

Do you think that story about the new flu in China is real? Come off it!

Do you think it'll spread? Come off it!

Do you think it'll come to Ireland? Come off it!

Ah, d'ya think it'll be a big deal? Come off it!

Ah, they'd hardly close the pubs for Paddy's day - people wouldn't accept it! Come off it!

Ah, it won't go on for that long. Two weeks max. We'll be still doing this in May? Come off it!

Sure businesses can't stay shut for an indefinite period of time, sure how will they survive? Come off it!

    And so on

    And so on.

Every step of the way things we didn't think were possible have become reality and some people still don't recognise that anything is possible. We absolutely could still be living like this is August

But if I have it and cough on someone, I've just infected one whole person.

Ah here, it's any wonder people are getting bored with the restrictions.

But you can't then use them to calculate a nonsense per minute infection as you need a time limiting factor to do that.

Read what I posted again, I posted very deliberately ‘in the region of’. What we are discussing and what I posted is as far away from nonsense as you can get.

If you take 20 people, 10 will infect nobody and 10 will infect 5, Nolan's explanation.

It doesn't really matter... more cases will produce more deaths, pretty much a statistical certainty!

Does anyone know why we haven't had a mass media campaign to stay at home? If you watch any sort of British TV or radio station there's messages every 15 minutes telling people to stay at home. People unfortunately need constant reminders.

It is bizarre. Maybe they are going to lift the restrictions early and are happy with how we are doing. It doesn’t look like any form of ‘lockdown’ where I am
