They are doing serious focussed testing at the moment hence high levels of results. Big focussed testing in nursing homes at moment is cause of plateau at moment.

They are, but the results of that focused testing will need feed in to the figures for a couple of days yet.

Just watching people queuing up for Supermacs on the news, "When we heard they were open we had to come down". Keep it up lads, this is the sort of attitude that will undo any good that's been done to date and push any relaxation down the road further.

I'd love cheesey fries now, are all Supermacs back open?

Ulcerative colitis is another one that smokers rarely get. Fewer mouth ulcers too. There can also be positive effects in conditions like ADHD That said it's the nicotine that appears to be protective in those cases, the method of self administering it is one of the single worst things someone can do for their health with systemic negatives throughout the body.

Researchers in France to test the effects of nicotine on coronovirus patients and front line healthcare workers using patches, to try to understand why it appears smokers are less likely to contract the virus.

100 cases a day? We're a long way off from that.

We were going down, so hopefully today is a blip.

Professor Nolan stated he thought for every 5 cases we find we miss 5. So realistically its much higher than 631 cases today or the 400 or so of the last few days.

Its clear we don't have the spread under control. You'd wonder what the situation is like in the community and what would happen post restrictions being lifted.

What an ignorant post saying every single person on welfare is at blame.
Back where I'm from its all the single people are breaking the lockdown and they all work having house parties.

    Alright alright calm down......

Exactly. So he may have got confused about where the name came from, even temporarily, I'm not a fan per se, but I'd say he is under a serious amount of pressure. But the mistake doesn't affect his ability to deal with the current crisis.

Doesn't matter though - he can rely on the Captain Hindsight chaps on here to jump on anyone that gets anything wrong these days. Always a pile of holier than thou, "I'd have done it better", chaps who can't wait to get a dig in. :pac:

This is bullsh*t. He was the reason the last government collapsed and when the next government is formed he will not be Minister for Health. If Trump or one of his lackies had said what Simon Harris said, the Internet would have gone into meltdown. He is not and never was up to a ministerial job. Although, sadly, history shows that he is not alone in that regard.

Its on ongoing issue with numbers not adding up etc. Bad when its a government site full of errors
Just had a look at the page source, they're just altering the previous day's page, substituting the latest figures, or not as in this case.

Would have thought that they'd have linked to a DB of some sort, way they're doing it is a recipe for errors.

If the research gives a positive result, there will be a run on nicotine patches next.

When will we know an outcome from this French research

We will need to be under 200 cases per day come next week at least. When restrictions were introduced we were around the three hundred mark per day for it to be worthwhile.

    'Just my 2 cents'

Sure what percentage difference does it make in the first place even if it were true

    Very sobering results today.
Can't pick one day as a trend so hopefully its an exception and the long term trend is downwards.
Has the deaths chart been updated?

What were today's numbers. I missed the briefing

That'd be mad if it was true. Feels like every adult male where I live smokes and case numbers are low.

Read this people. This is important information and I don't know if I should give it a separate thread.

Its from a doctor talking about oxygen in the blood and symptoms. His recommendation is for everyone or every family have an oximeter to monitor their own oxygen levels at home. Basically waiting until you are gasping for breath, typically shows low oxygen around 50 in the blood and that's critical oxygen levels.

Its very interesting. I bought an oximeter a few weeks ago in preparation for this.

Would tend to agree but 200 cases next week can in no way be compared to 300 cases at restriction introduction, at least on published figures, as there are too many variables factors in the testing data.

I have a nasty feeling that even the HSE don't have data available to run such a comparison meaningfully without doing an extraordinary amount of rejigging to get to an apples to apples stage.

Can you say with certainty that we don’t have the spread under control? Don’t the numbers in hospital plus the numbers in ICU show a more optimistic picture currently? How long ago were todays 631 ‘new’ cases tested for example? 2 or more weeks ago?

I bet you could never wait for Christmas day as a child! The plan will take time to produce so that means next week. The CMO is always talking about waiting to see the full impact of things so also next week, although I reckon it could be the BH Monday so we don't jump the gun. So chill and reawaken that kid's strategy of how many sleeps to go!

Apart from the fact that your response is immature and telling of someone who can’t write a proper counter to my post, it isn’t me who is impatient. I think you need to re-read my post. I’m getting annoyed at government speaking out BEFORE those things are done, like Harris. I don’t care how long they take, I don’t even think we are ready for lifting yet. My post said that Harris should wait for those things before publicly talking about measures easing. It isn’t me who can’t wait for Christmas, on the contrary, I’d rather it be delayed further.

They use % for transmission and the numbers go up and down if you work them into numbers here is the last 3 and you can see community drops.
    Community 9415(62%), 9278(60%), 9681(61%)
    Contact 5163(34%), 5412(35%), 5555(35)

    Age ranges are another one
