    From your own article;

''More than 3,000 tests were done in the North Leinster region since Friday and this group was told this morning it had enough swab testing kits and personal protective equipment to carry out more than 2,000 swabs today alone. ''

''The Chief Executive of the HSE, Paul Reid, said that 4,000 tests have already been completed.''

That actually says that 4000 have already been completed, if you are going to post a link at least read it.

Well obvs if their saying theirs a high number of positive cases form nursing home this a month or more? Its a large scale testing now every home in the country started today. Does not matter if theirs symptoms or not now

Spot on, but what if the lockdown ends and the virus is still here in small numbers the r0 is going to go straight back upto 2+ this is far from over just dont get how the number is still so low this far in somethings wrong somewhere

No idea what you mean by that. Vivid can have R0 = 5 to 7. We were at 4.5 and now below 1.
As for life here; for most it is severely changed.

4.5? and weve managed to keep it below 20000? Goodlad

What a classic movie. Adding to the watchlist for this week.

I have to hand it to you, you always find the worst scenario possible.

It's true though. 14 deaths reported last Sunday was way below what came before and after, same with cases.

It's not just an Irish thing either.

Why are numbers still high? We are in lockdown since March and numbers still staying high enough. Im am worried tbh. If our numbers arent dropping significantly this week i think its game over.

I'm fairly confident that they will. Even if they don't it certainly won't be game over, we'll be ok, take it one day at a time my friend

Okay, one last attempt. Restrictions will be gradually eased, not ended. Social distancing, no mass gathering etc will continue.

Still you say something's wrong but don't explain what you mean. The numbers are perfectly in line with expectations as a result of restrictions coupled with increased testing.

But what are referring to when you say 'Game Over'?

If we cant bring down the numbers this week more. Then i be worried of the inability of this country to clear the disease. We shouldn't be reducing restrictions a whole pile or else we will delay all of us the chance to get back to normal again sooner rather than later.

    Gout?

Thought so, or a fungal infection, but it was all toes on both feet. Not reading much info it, just interesting given the timing.

Nothing new here, always been the same with most Irish here, any problems in Ireland you always get "but its worst in UK",as if it makes it better.

it seems like lockdowns are working across the world - i mean they have to, you don't meet other people, you don't get infected. i'm just worried about opening back up again, which has to be done in the next few months or risk a global depression that could last a decade, whether the virus is gone or not. and it's won't be.

There are posters on here who think (although I'd say wish) pubs will open again this summer. They completely refuse to face the reality of our present situation. Despite our very soft lockdown our numbers are still pretty high and that will only change for the worse if some of these lunatics had their way.

Some places will no doubt open up this summer such as hardware shops and some offices etc..but there is not a snowballs in hell chance pubs, wedding events, concerts, sport events etc..are opening this summer.

What's your evidence for that, apart from they were lower today?

Includes 1 death later rescinded by HSE (Mar. AKAIR) but not geographically located, so left in. HSE 15th Apr - 1 death that was reported earlier has now been discounted, again not geographically located, so left in.

Exactly. Then you have people giving out about the restrictions. They dont see the bigger picture which worries me with this country.

Good news today on deaths across Europe, let's hope it's not a Sunday blip.

The measures are clearly working to contain this which is why they are essential.

I'd wait until tomorrow or Tuesday before saying that. As we know the reported death rate seems to be lower over the weekend.
Actually with the situation in the nursing homes it's possibe deaths will remain high for a while yet, even if the number of daily cases begin to fall by a lot over the next few days.

Our actions has a nation gives us extra 19 days for the government to act before we reached 15000+ cases. Next steps will be crucial were we go in the next month or so.

It would be great if that's true but one day, and a Sunday at that, doesn't make a trend.

To posters saying "lift the restrictions" because of the curve, they have a contradictory position.

The only reason the curve is as it is and not a frightening ascent of cases and tragedies is because of the very measures in place.

If we maintain the course there is a much higher chance of some semblance of normality returning by the end of 2020.

Otherwise we face rolling lock downs which harm everyone.

This should be stickied Kermit, a few people have had to explain this every single night.

There are none so deaf as this who do not wish to hear.

There was never an ability to clear the disease.
From the outset we have been told by every medical professional that we will have to live along side the virus.

    This doesn’t make sense

It makes perfect sense. We bought the health service many valuable days and kept ICU numbers down. We eased ourselves to 15000 cases rather than allowing it swamp us.
