No yarn . In a small village outsiders stick out like are sore thumb . They are here and they're not isolating . FACT .
    I well believe you.

As I said , We are being Spun many the Fine Yarn for the Worship of Cheap / Exploited Labour.

I dont get the issue here.

200 people arrive, pick food, then leave.

They will 99% only mix with themselves, they cant go to a pub, cinema etc and without people picking food we would have a much bigger problem in a month.

This is probably much safer than having 200 Irish workers all working together and then going home each night.

The problem is there could easily be a cluster amongst themselves, which would be hard to contain.

    If

    a) Keelings apply the appropriate HSE guidelines
    b) the workers are not exploited
    c) irish people have not sought the jobs and have been refused

please explain to me the issue here. I'm not being sarcastic btw - I'm genuinely asking.

no bother , it's nice to get some reasoned debate. -

I don't think its' possible to employ HSE guidelines effectively on site .
How are they going to be fed etc? They currently go to the local shops/supermarkets...are keelings going for them?

What about the staff on-site but not part of the newly arrived...are they now confined to the site?
or are they kept separate from the newly arrived? Which is impossible btw.

What about the bus that ferries them back and forth? are they keeping the staff separated on that.
How many (if any) of Keelings on site workers are housed in overflow accommodation off site (in the local community)

many practical questions...that "we will follow the HSE" doesn't answer and cant tbh.

It's all too easy to say "we follow the HSE" on the ground its quite different.
And , of course, this is the same HSE that boards.ie posters wanted to burn to the ground 6 months ago .

I live near there...these staff are daily on the road, parks and shops.
We are adding new bodies to the situation, complete opposite of the rules laid out by the state. That's my issue.

They tried to hire locally, but couldn't get the numbers. What do you want?

What has this got to do with Leo insisting on social distancing? you're exposing yourself as lead by emotion, instead of logic.

actually I'm exposed to these people on a personal level as I frequent the same shops and parks as them

That shop is packed at the best of times, and its not exactly a huge place. Quite worrying.

And you can tell just by looking at them which ones have just arrived?

Hmm.....anything that requires hundreds of labour units and cant be harvested mechanically can be listed non-essential

What diet requires strawberrys as a vital componant to be balanced??

Any that can be mechanically picked?

Noone is saying we dont need it,but we need to prioritise....strawberrys arent worth risking peoples health for imo

    Too ambiguous, not workable unfortunately.

There is plenty of produce that might be harvested mechanically, but what about quality selection, treatment, packaging & distribution? all require labour, what you are saying is fine, in theory only.

Or you know maybe I am actually willing to do whatever I have to do to help the country in these times. I'm just not going to do something that's not helping.

That’s fine. Doubt you’d pick fruit for hours on end for less than 350 a week though.

They are virtually all automated....ive worked in such places

Noone has bother with people working at food etc....just you get more people fed per person working at spuds etc than strawberries??

Its incomprehensible that people cant grasp this....its not bulgarians,a dislike of strawberries, its just too dangerous to be taking risks with what is going on at the min

It’s been said on thread here that strawberries, and by proxy I assume other fruits, aren’t essential. Could the folks saying that give some examples of what they think are and are not essential foods. I’d have to think alcohol gets the chop anyway?

paw patrol, why are you not outraged that the Tesco worker is "allowed" to travel 10km to work every day?

they aren't the same thing and you know it too

That Tesco person isn't flying in from across the continent. on a plane with recycled air, through airport on a bus to live in a barracks with a few 100 others.

The Tesco worker was already here. These are new. They are adding to it.
The lockdown is a sham and this proves it.

You are welcome to apply, that will mean one less needed to import > https://keelings.ie/corporate/careers-at-keelings/

I notice they are also looking for an in-house recruiter. Previously they would have farmed:) all this out to third party contractors in Bulgaria or elsewhere to source labour. Do people believe its possible to start from scratch and hire 200 people overnight with no system in place?

You Know That The Reason Irish People Don't Do This Work Is Because Its So Low Paid (Mostly) Due To Competition With Imports. In Order To Make It Viable They Have To Import Workers From Poorer Regions Who Are Happy To Do The Work For A Pittance Or Else The Foodstuffs Just Wouldn't Be Produced Here At All.

The Tesco worker is helping feed hundreds of people a day including the front-line staff caring for those infected with Coronavirus.

Thank you to those people for helping keep the nation fed and cared for.

This is a side effect of unlimited free dole for generations of professional Irish layabouts.

Cut the dole to 55euro a week after one year.
