Overcharge in Aldi, Limerick

I just bought some fruit, potatoes, cheese and cider in Aldi. Paid by my card and put the receipt in the bag with the groceries.

Then back at the house, I checked the receipt and the bill was €44.00. There was two items added 9359 *STORAGE BOX SET 15.99 D. That is €32 over charge.

Anyone know what this storage box set is?

Did you go back to the shop?

It’s probably something that was scanned in error.

Who isn't paying attention to the total at Aldi? Would love to be so unconcerned with money.

Manually entered wrong code, something didn't scan

You walked out if the shop paying €44 for a few bits that cost €12 without it raising an alarm bells in your head?

People are easily distracted these days so maybe drop the judgement about missing it at the time everybody...

Go back and I imagine it'll be refunded immediately.

Somehow, I had a very slight feeling, that the OP wouldn't get much sympathy around these parts when the initial post was made.

The shop closed at 8 pm. Will head up there in the morning.

I was behind the screen and packing the groceries. I wasn't paying much attention to what the cashier was saying. I replied by 'I'll pay by card.'

Just noticed that the mistake was the wrong code for two pears.

My Dad picked up a few bits in Super Valu a few weeks ago. He picked up some dog food and it scanned in at €28 at the till. My Dad gets this dog food regularly and knows it doesn't cost €28. When he questioned it with the checkout operator she said it cost €28....computer says no. He just told her to void it. I imagine it was something to do in the background with the barcode and what Super Valu's system said it related to. He went the following week and the dog food was scanning at its normal price.

There would be no shortage of hangmen anyway.

    YFlyer,

I appreciate fully that it's easy to get distracted. I was just thinking about it from my normal position shopping which is often along the following lines of, I have €30 in the bank and I am anxious to know the final bill before I pay

They will have it of cctv and no problem refunding you tomorrow.

    Thanks Happy4all

I'm not flushed myself. Was using the credit card.

I'm hoping that they'll realise that the wrong code was entered.

I don't even know what a storage box set is.

What I did find odd was that the cashier said to the next customer while she was putting her groceries on the conveyor that he has to head off for a couple of minutes.

Probably to throw some storage boxes in the boot.

This is going to be the next big Netflix true crime series, I can tell.

Another poster on the local forum suggested this:

'Email Aldi head office and attach pic of receipt.

Explain the situation and how you think the wrong code was imputed. Tell them that if ot resolved you will contact your bank and ask for a chargeback.'

I may do that if it is not solved at the store.

Would the bank even do a chargeback in this case?

How is the person going to prove the next day they didn't actually buy those items, may I ask??? Gonna have to get cctv footage. People should always have common sense doesn't matter what's going on, especially now with what's going on.

I'll see how I get on at the store. There is an exchange within 60 days on the receipt.

Never accept what someone says is correct when you know your correct. You learnt that from me, not your dad. 😂

Let us know how to get on. I know Aldi and Lidl are harder to deal with when it comes to things like this, compared to Super Valu or Dunnes. You will even find it hard to know who to actually talk with. Just be genuine and persistent, good luck.

    Are you serious??????

Why not go the full hog while you are at it and say that you will petition the high court for winding up.

Help me understand your point of view here. Charge-backs are a method of last resort when a transaction goes wrong and the store/seller will not engage or refund you. It is a very useful aspect of using a credit card to buy things.

Why would the op not try to get his money back if the store will not work with him and look into the error?
