How come Mary Lou (SF) had to wait so long for her result while Simon Coveney, Ryan Turbidy and Claire Byrne had fast results?

I only dip in and out of this thread as I can't handle any more but every single time I do for the past few weeks you are always banging on about this, let it go for godsake.

Is Trump doing his 3 ring circus coronavirus media event tonight?

It's just Obama has endorsed Biden and laid on digs at Trump

Could be a highly entertaining evening :D

First time I've seen Obama in a while - the aging process hasn't slowed down since he left office that's for sure. A bit gaunt looking even!

There is very little new. Testing issues being put to bed, backlog nearly gone, new cases falling, deaths sadly still high and that just leaves nursing homes as a target.

Are many people being moved to Dublin to receive ICU treatment? That's a massive gap.

548 cases is the equivalent of Italy recording 7,000 cases in a day per head of population. They maxed at 6,200.

Highest number of new cases and deaths today.

    RIP to all.

    Italy did less testing

Another comparison is if you multiply our death toll by 12, so that we could see how it compares with countries like France and Italy and the UK who have all approx 12 times our population. Really, we have a high toll.
And compare to Germany which has about 14 or 15 times our population.

Well the journalists are all pretty pathetic with their questions, 45 mins on Saturday having the German tests situation explained to them over and over again. Totally preoccupied by the cases per day stats which every dog on the street knows are not a reflection on anything given they had so many tests to catch up on.

Has anyone asked once, if the number of new referrals for tests each has gone up or down?

Here we go again - do those countries you mention include nursing home deaths in their figures - UK openly admit that they don't... but let's not let that get in the way your argument.

Anyone know anything more about this one?

HSE not going ahead with purported €7.4 million deal for 350 ventilators, High Court told

No explanation on why this was cancelled. I can understand it though if they found a source for them closer to home (ventilators made in Ireland or elsewhere in Europe), at better price or if the order arriving might have taken too long. Still, some sort of clarification would be nice. Now the article makes it sound like there won't be more ventilators for you and that's it.

We have now overtaken both Germany and Italy in testing numbers.

Is it possible that we simply do not need them?

Not an IT glitch and not an IT issue. HSE provided incomplete information necessary for script to run correctly. If Dr Tony and co want to call it a testing glitch then so be it. Journalists need to call them out on this.

Are we not including nursing home/deaths outside of hospitals whereas others aren't? Maybe that's not the case anymore.

We do and it's not nice at all and very disappointing. But remember we are counting everyone
    Those in nursing homes
Those were covid was the primary cause of death
Those where it was no the primary cause of death
Those where it was only confirmed at post mortem that they had Covid 19.

Other countries arent counting them or playing catch up on those stats.

How about you tell me? Do you know anything completely factually about any countries death inclusions? I doubt it, because I would say every country is doing a bit of creative accounting. And no one knows the exact truth. So we can only go on the figures that are admitted. And on that basis our figures are not great. In my opinion. 50% over and above normal daily death rate here compared to any other year. And highly comparable to countries like Italy, France, UK, which have very unpleasant numbers still.

There was talk of moving patients out of Dublin to ICUs elsewhere in the country.

Every country is doing it different, different 24 hour periods, we include nursing home deaths, UK don't. It's waste of time trying to compare numbers when every country reports differently and is in a different position in the this pandemic. Different restrictions in places - some have army on street and you can't leave your house. While here despite people thinking we have a lock down - you have spend 24 hours outside of your house and no one will care.

If you multiply our death toll by 12, it's still less than 5,000, which is....

    40% of the UK's toll
Less than a third of France's
Less than a quarter of Italy's

But we are counting nursing home and other criteria other countries aren't. Comparisons, until all is over and fully analysed, are pointless.

The default variable setting was wrong. That's an IT issue and part of the project spec i.e. What statuses can we expect the system to produce?. DeGascun did go on to explain what they do to remedy such a status.

Per capita comparisons are not valid until all is said and done. If one country has 1million people and another has 100million people, you only need 10,000 cases in one and 1,000,000 in the other to impact 1% of the population. If both counties have no controls and 1 index case it will take far longer for it to reach 1% in the large country as R0 and incubation are the same. The small countries rate of increase will slow earlier though as will run out of people more quickly.

Multiplying our figure by 12 isn’t a reasonable thing to do though. Almost 2 million people live in the greater Dublin area.

This disease doesn’t respect boundaries. Compare Dublin to a pocket of a few million elsewhere to get a fairer comparison. Parts of a country with huge populations not affected at all skew it to the extent comparisons per million are not at all useful.

Just listening to report on the damaged communications mast in Donegal. Serious jail time for these people. A country in the grips of a pandemic, and critical and essential infrastructure being attacked...
