    Fauci may be the epitome of integrity yet he's been utterly wrong. My guess is he has more snob appeal to a member of the Dublin middle-class than a vulgar character like Trump. He's a medical 'expert', making him the kind of person who people want to listen to and believe.

    At least maybe now some people will realise that abstract modelling around medical statistics (which are notoriously difficult to work with at the best of times) isn't an exact science with some sort of definitive authority that can be used to cow laypersons.

    There were competing models with vastly different assumptions and numbers from disease specialist labs in Oxford University and other institutions. Did those researchers lack integrity? The pathetic attempts by mainstream media to debunk these later models patronisingly claimed that they didn't have all the data (and Fauci did?)

    At least part of the love for Fauci is due to the hatred for Trump.

    Thankfully day 7 into it now and it appears to be a very mild illness for me. Can't wait to get back to work. Feel like I absolutely wouldn't be off work if I felt the same with a "normal" cold/flu. Looking forward to getting back to the emergency department.

    Wait, are people questioning Fauci now? Hes served under several presidents, continuously, from Ronald Regan to now. He is highly respected and is literally one of the authors of the book that is considered the holy grail of internal medicine. This isn't his first rodeo when it comes to epidemics (aids, ebola, sars etc). But yeah, what does he know?

    Uk passed 10,000 deaths today, that is shocking. On a per capital basis that so equate to almost 1000 deaths here.

    Everyone that stays at home is doing what is required.

    I feel like saying the doctors/nurses are the frontline is the wrong approach. If you think what the front line represents. Me and you are the front line, if the virus gets pass us and we need help - then the nurses and doctors are there.

    If you consider the healthcares as front line and the virus beats them - you probably going to die.

    Just remember there have been 9k deaths in Ireland since this began in January. 334 relate to Covid 19. It is a terrible situation we are in but people will continue to die for all sorts of reasons. It is the most fundamental part of life.

    If you get the virus at home - and not deemed "sick" enough for hospital you have to stay home etc, if your elderly - you won't know how sick you are.

    If you are in a nursing home you'll have a qualified nurse available 24/7 and probably at doctor on call, who will know how sick you are etc.

    You compare an elderly person living alone in fear and being anxious as the news is all negative and they have no friends etc, and then compare them with a resident in a nursing home - where they have carers, and carers will have the chats as normal, the cups of tea, and everything is normal as can be. The nursing homes were someone can organise a skype call with a loved one for instance.

    Not everyone in a nursing home will get the virus, and even fewer will die from it.

    That is ridiculous because COVID wasnt even here in January, so I have no idea why you would combine the total number of people who typically die within the months of January, February and March when COVID was only here for one of the three months. Surely you would just compare the 334 figure to the number who typically die in March, and in that case a pretty sizeable number of Irish people have died from this new virus in this given timeframe and it has caused a significant increase in national mortality rates over that period

    The graph itself was fine but it was used to suggest the USA was riddled because of the confirmed cases they had. I said that's because they've tested more than most and you said a load of other Countries tested more than the US. But that was per capita and because they were considerably smaller Countries it made the original point balderdash!

    Er sorry but science doesn't work like that. Scientists aren't philosopher-kings who are taken at their word and how dare anyone say otherwise.

    Fauci has produced falsifiable research, which has been implicitly 'questioned' by disease specialists at some of the most credible universities in the world, and which may prove to be objectively wrong.

    D"ont let it overwhelm you. You need to distance yourself from it and build your own resilience and coping skills.

    Take time out to breathe. Walk, read, listen to music. Listen to the birds singing.

    You can only change what you can control - that is your reaction to it.

    You cant change people mindsets on here either, no matter how frustrating they can be. It's just ****e talk at the end of the day. They have no clue what people are going through, otherwise, they'd not make hateful comments about who are peoples family members. Who are they anyway? Armchair or Facebook experts are just trying regurgitating nonsense.

    The Andrea Boccelli live broadcast from Milan was very moving - it was called music for hope. Italy is down, but not out, neither is Spain, US or even Argentina.! Nor Ireland.

    Determination and human spirit and empathy will win through.

    Perhaps its better to be anxious at home and safe from the virus than in a home full of people where its spreading like wildfire. Like I say, if you're elderly and want to avoid C19 then a nursing home is the last place you'd want to be right now.

    That said not all of them would be too bothered if they contracted it because they mightn't give a toss at this stage of their lives.

    The most at risk category (over 65) in the UK is more populated than ours.

    Would be the equivalent of about 500 deaths here if one adjusts the figure's in the at risk category
